  14. <p>    DIED. Bill Terry, 90, first baseman and manager of the old
  15. New York Giants, who compiled a lifetime batting average of
  16. .341 and was the last National League player to hit above .400
  17. in a season (.401 in 1930); in Jacksonville. A left-handed
  18. hitter who rarely struck out, Terry spent his major-league
  19. playing career (1923-36) with the Giants. As manager, he won
  20. three pennants and one World Series title (1933).
