  23. What's in the distribution?
  24. =======================================================================
  25. This distribution contains Glide, Glide3, Direct3D drivers for Voodoo2
  26. Based 3D Accelerators and the Voodoo2 Control Panel Applet.
  27.  
  28. This distribution should be used by all OEM's shipping boards for
  29. the Windows 95/98 platform.  It is suggested that the files in this kit
  30. be placed on a driver CD in uncompressed (unzipped) format.

  69. - Windows 95 or Windows 98
  70. - PC with a Pentium II, Pentium Pro, Pentium or similar processor
  71. - One free PCI slot (or two free PCI slots for SLI)
  72. - 16MB of RAM or more Suggested

  75. Installation
  76. ------------
  77. The installation below can vary depending on which version of Windows
  78. is installed.  To determine the Windows 95 version click Start, 
  79. Settings, Control Panel. Double-click on the system icon. If the 
  80. Windows version is 4.00.950b, Windows 95 OEM SR2 is running.

  83. Existing Drivers Installed or PCI Multimedia Device shown in Device Mgr
  84. -----------------------------------------------------------------------
  85. 1) Start Windows and extract the drivers to a temporary directory.
  86.  
  87. 2) Open Device Manager (Start, Settings, Control Panel, System)
  88.  
  89. 3) Locate the existing reference to the card it will be listed as:
  90.  
  91.        Reference Card: Other Devices / PCI Multimedia Device or
  92.                Sound, Video, Game Controllers / Voodoo2
  93.  
  94.    NOTE: In an SLI configiration (2 Voodoo2 cards) you only need to
  95.    select one card to update.

  97. 4) Double Click on the card, then click the driver Tab
  98.  
  99.      Windows 95 Standard Release users: Click "Change Driver" and choose
  100.                                         "Have Disk"
  101.               Windows 95 OEM SR2 users: Click "Update Driver" then click
  102.                                         the Next Button.  Click "Other
  103.                                         Locations" 
  104.                       Windows 98 users: Click "Update Driver" then click
  105.                                         the Next Button twice on the
  106.                                         Detection Dialog Box. Ensure that
  107.                                         "Specify a Location" is checked and
  108.                                         "Microsoft Windows Update" is not
  109.                                         checked. Click Browse to continue.

  111. 5) Point the driver location to where the files are extracted to and click
  112.    OK.  
  113.  
  114.      Windows Standard Release 95 users: Select "Voodoo2 3D Accelerator" 
  115.                                         from the List and click OK.
  116.                                         Click OK again to save changes in
  117.                                         Device Manager.
  118.               Windows 95 OEM SR2 Users: Click on Finish to continue.
  119.                       Windows 98 users: Click on Next to continue.

  121. 6) You MAY then be prompted to insert the "Voodoo2 Drivers for Windows 9X"
  122.    Disk.  Again, point to the path you extracted the files to and press OK.

  124. 7) Windows will copy the drivers. Reboot the system when prompted
  125.  
  126. 8) Install DirectX 5.0 or higher.  (If not already installed)

  130. No Current Drivers Installed (Single Board and SLI)
  131. ---------------------------------------------------

  133. Single Board
  134. ============

  136. 1) Start Windows and extract the drivers to a temporary directory.
  137.  
  138. 2) Shutdown Windows, Power off the system and install your Voodoo2
  139.    3D board into a PCI slot. 
  140.  
  141. 3) Restart Windows after hardware installation.
  142.  
  143. 4) Windows will detect a "PCI Multimedia Device", you need to:
  144.  
  145.      Windows 95 Standard Release users: Select "Use Driver from Mfr"
  146.                                         and click OK
  147.               Windows 95 OEM SR2 users: Click the Next Button on the
  148.                                         Detection Dialog Box. Then click
  149.                                         "Other Locations"
  150.                       Windows 98 users: Click the Next Button twice on the
  151.                                         Detection Dialog Box. Ensure that
  152.                                         "Specify a Location" is checked and
  153.                                         "Microsoft Windows Update" is not
  154.                                         checked. Click Browse to continue.
  155.  
  156. 5) Point the driver location to where the files are extracted to and click
  157.    OK.  (Windows 98: You will need to click on Next to continue)
  158.  
  159. 6) You MAY then be prompted to insert the "Voodoo2 Drivers for Windows 9X"
  160.    Disk.  Enter the path the drivers are extracted to and press OK.

  162. 7) Windows will copy the drivers. Reboot the system when prompted
  163.  
  164. 8) Install DirectX 5.0 or higher.  (If not already installed)

  167. SLI (Two Voodoo2 Boards with SLI cable)
  168. =======================================
  169.  
  170. 1) Start Windows and extract the drivers to a temporary directory.
  171.  
  172. 2) Shutdown Windows, Power off the system and install your Voodoo2
  173.    3D boards into PCI slots next to each other
  174.  
  175. 3) Connect the SLI cable to both boards.
  176.  
  177. 4) Restart the system and Windows after hardware installation.
  178.  
  179. 5) Windows will detect a "PCI Multimedia Device", you need to:
  180.  
  181.      Windows 95 Standard Release users: Select "Use Driver from Mfr"
  182.                                         and click OK
  183.               Windows 95 OEM SR2 users: Click the Next Button on the
  184.                                         Detection Dialog Box. Then click
  185.                                         "Other Locations"
  186.                       Windows 98 users: Click the Next Button twice on the
  187.                                         Detection Dialog Box. Ensure that
  188.                                         "Specify a Location" is checked and
  189.                                         "Microsoft Windows Update" is not
  190.                                         checked. Click Browse to continue.

  192. 6) Point the driver location to where the files are extracted to and click
  193.    OK.  (Windows 98: You will need to click on Next to continue)

  195. 7) You MAY then be prompted to insert the "Voodoo2 Drivers for Windows 9X"
  196.    Disk.  Enter the path the drivers are extracted to and press OK.

  198. 8) Windows will copy the drivers. When prompted to reboot the system, 
  199.    click No. You may be asked to reboot several more times. Manually 
  200.    restart the system by clicking Start, Shutdown and Restart.

  202. 9) Install DirectX 5.0 or higher.  (If not already installed)

  206. Troubleshooting
  207. ---------------

  211. Problem: After installing this driver, the Control panel applet I had
  212. for a Voodoo Graphics card is gone.
  213.  
  214. Resolution: The Voodoo2 drivers will uninstall *ANY* Voodoo Graphics 
  215. drivers.  This is to ensure only Voodoo2 drivers are on the system.
