Well, this is my first MIDI effort, GM or otherwise. It's Carl Orff's Carol of the Bells -- actually more like Carol of the Bells meets Tubular Bells on the stage of the Boston Pops, something like that. I tried for a Mormon Tabernacle full chorus sound, especially the high female chorus, and instead of doves, I got pigeons (sounds alright though, I think). Anybody know how to get the fullout Tabernacle Choir sound in GM MIDI, I'd sure like to know.
Now Carol o de Bells is a real simple get up. It's got the rather monotonous lead line. It's got the emphasis, at some point on any of the three quarter beats (the thing's in 3/4 time). And it's got those two characteristic runs or riffs (one is the 'merry, merry Christmas' riff). You put it all together like Orff, or however you want. But it's fun to goof with and it's a real simple tune. Obviously I had fun, and did goof with it (too much, maybe? I don't know). Don't see why there can't be 100 versions of Carol of the Bells in GM/GS &c MIDI, and let the listener select his/her favorite versions. There appears to be a lot of talent in the .sounds.midi ng. Sure would be interested in hearing what they come up with.
