BACH, JOHANN SEBASTIAN -- Fantasie und Fuge in A moll (BWV 561)
This is one of Bach's more dramatic and virtuosic pieces. (In his
time, he was respected more for his virtuosity than his skill as a composer.
His songs were considered too complex for common enjoyment.)
The notation in the music I used seemed unorthodox; it resorted to
putting the two hands together in one melody line, and only distinguishing
which played what by the method of beaming... I ended up just guessing. This
must not be extremely unusual, but I do suspect I have made some mistakes.
If you find any, correct me at ckermiht@teleport.com.
The tempo I chose is a bit fast, and consequently the song runs only
one minute. If one so desires, the presto may be slowed to 100bpm and still
sound well (the ritardando in the next-to-last bar must be slowed also).
The fugue begins on the final resolving note (I lengthened this note
to a half, and omitted the "Presto" in that bar). It compliments the fantasy
well, and I hope to have it done soon.
