  20. 1. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

  23. Pentium 75MHz or faster
  24. 16MB RAM
  25. 40MB of hard disk space
  26. 4X CD-ROM drive or faster
  27. 640 x 480 in 256 color mode 
  28. Sound Blaster 16 and 100% Sound Blaster 16 compatible sound cards
  29. Video and Sound cards compatible with DirectX 3.0a or higher
  30.  
  31. Note: Warlords III:Reign of Heroes Demo requires DirectX 3.0a or 
  32. higher.  You can download DirectX 3.0a or higher via the Microsoft 
  33. World Wide Web site at www.microsoft.com (or 
  34. http://www.microsoft.com/msdownload/directx3.htm).  Please follow 
  35. the instructions carefully to download and install Direct X 3.0a or 
  36. higher.

  38. *System Configuration:  May require minor adjustments to the 
  39. configuration of your operating system and/or updates to the hardware 
  40. component drivers.
  41. **If you experience problems with the installation or compatibility of 
  42. DirectX on your machine, please consult the hardware manufacturers 
  43. of your video or sound card.  You may also want to check MicrosoftÆs 
  44. Web page for more information.

  46. 2. PERFORMANCE RECOMMENDATIONS
  47.  
  48. 640 x 480 mode is recommended as an expert mode option because of 
  49. the smaller viewing area.  In addition, there is no events field in this 
  50. video mode making the game even tougher.

  52. Turn off animated water on Pentium 75 and 90 machines.  To do so, at 
  53. the Game Screen (the screen on which you select sides and set game 
  54. options) select Edit Options, then Set Preferences. There is a check box 
  55. which allows you to turn off animated water.

  57. 3.  WINDOWS 95 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

  62. To Install the Program Manually.
  63.  
  64. After downloading Warlords III: Reign of Heroes Demo, decompress 
  65. the setup program.  To decompress the setup program double click on 
  66. War3Demo.exe. In the War3Demo folder double click on the file 
  67. setup.exe to launch the installation application. Click the OK button 
  68. and follow the on-screen 
  69. instructions to install the Warlords III Demo.

  71. To Play
  72. Begin at the Windows 95 desktop.  Click the Start button, point to 
  73. Programs, and then Red Orb Entertainment. Click the Warlords III 
  74. Demo menu item to start the program.

  76. To Uninstall
  77. If you need to uninstall the Warlords III Demo, begin at the Windows 
  78. 95 desktop.  Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then Control 
  79. Panel. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.  Click the 
  80. Install/Uninstall tab and select Warlords III Demo from the list of 
  81. programs. Click the Add/Remove button and then click the Yes button 
  82. to remove the program.

  84. 4.  ABOUT THE DEMO
  85.  
  86. The Warlords III Demo will be available via the World Wide Web at 
  87. selected locations.
  88.  
  89. You will find two scenarios in this demo.  Both are limited to single 
  90. player play.  In the full product you will have the opportunity to play 
  91. up to seven human opponents over IPX, TCP/IP over the Internet, as 
  92. well as Hotseat and direct serial and modem connection.

  94. The tutorial scenario provides an introduction to the basic elements of 
  95. game play of Warlords III. We recommend that you take the time to 
  96. play through the tutorial.  It is very helpful to introduce the product, 
  97. interface, and game play elements.

  99. The Elven Guardians scenario is also a great introductory scenario that 
  100. provides just enough challenge for both novice and experienced 
  101. Warlords.  The Elves have an edge.  So, if you are new to the game, 
  102. choose that side with the beginner option.  BorogÆs Tribe in the Psycho 
  103. mode is at a distinct disadvantage and should provide a hearty 
  104. challenge for even the most experienced Warlord.

  106. 5.  TROUBLESHOOTING
  107.  
  108. Q. I am running into problems with graphics, such as 
  109. graphic glitches, palette flashes, desktop corruption, or the 
  110. game hanging upon exit.  How can I fix this?
  111.  
  112. These are all issues related to DirectX and/or hardware 
  113. specific drivers.  You should contact your video card 
  114. manufacturer and Microsoft for the latest drivers and 
  115. compatibility information.  Red Orb Entertainment does not 
  116. supply drivers or information for hardware.

  118. Q. I receive an error message that tells me, "A required DLL
  119. file, D PlayX.DLL was not found".  What does that mean?
  120.  
  121. Warlords III: Reign of Heroes Demo requires that you have Direct
  122. X 3.0a or higher installed on your system.  Please visit the
  123. Microsoft Web site at www.microsoft.com or (http://www.microsoft.com/
  124. msdownload/directx3.htm) to download Direct X3.0a.
