  3. (1) The UPDATE program *only* works with Linux, Win95, and AmigaOS.  See
  4.     HVSC web page for link to Amiga version (URL at bottom).  It will also
  5.     work on other UNIX systems, but you will have to email shark@dhp.com
  6.     for the source code.  Mac support will hopefully occur in the future.

  8. (2) The /update directory should reside directly within the HV SIDs
  9.     Collection.  We recommend the follow for unzipping:
  10.  
  11.     MSDOS -> pkunzip -d hv_up_??.zip
  12.     UNIX  -> unzip -L hv_up_??.zip -d <destdir>
  13.  
  14.     If the old UPDATE program exists, chose overwrite.  That is, always use
  15.     the newest UPDATE program.

  17.     Also, as I am sure you have noticed, the updates are doubled zipped
  18.     in order to allow us to cram more SIDs in.
  19.  
  20.     More detailed information is given when you run the UPDATE program.

  22. (3) Only run/unzip one update at a time.  That is, don't unzip several
  23.     updates at the same time into the same directory.  Run each update in
  24.     _sequence_ starting with the lower updates.  Further, it is recommended
  25.     that you delete the /update directory after you are successful with the
  26.     update.  The reason is that UPDATE might not run correctly if two /update
  27.     directories that differ in case are present.

  29. (4) It is safe to run the update on your collection even if you have unwisely
  30.     modified the collection or if you only have a partial collection.  If
  31.     any problems occur, an error file will be generated which will list
  32.     the errors.  We recommend that you don't modify HV SIDs.

  34. (5) DO NOT RUN THE SAME UPDATE ON YOUR COLLECTION MORE THAN ONCE!  You
  35.     will damage some SIDs if you do!
