  7. A Statement by Dave Haynie

  9. Our general hardware philosophy at PIOS is simple:
  10. we will work to bring back Amiga compatible hardware that
  11. restores the price/performance factors and user confidence
  12. that will allow the Amiga's successful reintroduction.

  14. Along with that, we want to bring back the excitement Amiga
  15. systems once generated. In keeping with tradition, a
  16. powerful low-end system is one initial target. We believe
  17. that a careful hardware design coupled with the economies of
  18. the AmigaOS, and its superior handling of multimedia related
  19. issues, can deliver a new class of home computer at a
  20. price that Wintel systems can't match.

  22. While price is critical here, we expect to deliver powerful,
  23. modern systems that play great games, network easily, and
  24. offer productivity and multimedia performance hereto for only
  25. available in high-end systems.

  27. Above a certain price point, we expect to build systems that
  28. follow the existing industry standards for PowerPC system
  29. compatibility. Integrating Power PC Platform conventions (PPCP)
  30. offers the user a choice of operating systems,
  31. making PIOS systems a sound investment even when the AmigaOS
  32. is the primary OS of choice. Use of standard hardware components
  33. such as JDEC memory modules, IDE and SCSI peripherals,
  34. PCI bus expansion cards, and very probably a number of new
  35. emerging standards helps keep hardware costs down, thanks to
  36. industry-wide economies of scale. This lets us provide a better
  37. initial system value and it makes such systems easier and cheaper
  38. to upgrade or customize once in user's hands.
