CLASSIC TRAINER II - SPECTRUM VERSION DOCS
Docs and Snapshot by Andy Gibson (AGAS Productions)
Released with the consent of Steve Bye - Author/Programmer of the
game `Classic Trainer II'.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Before I start the doc, I would like to tell you a little bit about
Steve Bye. If anyone has heard of F1
Software/Licenceware/Shareware, then chances are that you already
know who Steve Bye is.
Both Steve and his wife Belinda are the proprietors of F1 Software
and good friends of mine and really nice and honest peeps to boot.
Before Steve founded F1, he used to own his own computer shop and
even before that, he was a commercial programmer for some of the
classic platforms of yesteryear such as the C64, Amstrad and the
dear old (and much loved) Spectrum.
I have written a list of all Steve's main productions to date below
for you to look over and maybe you'll even have some of the
original cassettes/disks listed below. (collectors items now
Steve kindly sent me an original cassette version of the Speccy
game `Classic Trainer II' which I took a snapshot of and typed the
doc up for all to share.
Not only that, but I have also released a snapshot & doc of some
of the other classic spectrum games by Steve Bye ....
Classic Punter. *
Classic Trainer
Cup Manager
Soccer Director
Look out for these exclusives, they have NEVER been released onto
the Amiga scene before. That's a total of five classic games I've
made snapshots of and typed the docs up for. Many thanx must go to
Steve for giving myself permission to do so ;^)
(Please also note that PUNTER is now also available in a true Amiga
version. Re-coded and up to date in true Amiga fashion. Ask Steve
for details on how to obtain the Amiga version of PUNTER today :)
Onwards...
Here come the docs. The supplied snapshot will run on ZXAM II and
most other Speccy emulators (maybe!)
LOADING INSTRUCTIONS
Type LOAD "" and press ENTER. If using 128K Spectrum, select 48K
Basic. (pah! who needs that lot?)
CLASSIC TRAINER II
The follow up to our first release, Classic Trainer, Trainer II
takes all the best features and improves on them, resulting in a
highly playable stable management simulation.
The object of the game is to build a stable of horses to maximum
class and fitness; along the way, this will involve winning as many
races as possible, in order to collect prize money with which you
can consolidate and improve your position, by training and buying
new horses.
STABLE SCREEN
This shows your current stable of horses and their statistics;
FORM: How they have performed in their last six races - this will
reset to zero each season.
DIS: The distance over which the horse will run best.
G: The going which best suits the horse. S=Soft F=Firm
CLA: Class (0-100)
FIT: Fitness (0-100)
From this screen, press S for STATUS SCREEN, O for OPTIONS SCREEN,
T for TRAINING MENU or press R for RACES.
OPTIONS SCREEN
Options include save and load game, edit names and the opportunity
to change the character set.
TRAINING MENU
Mentions are given only to items which need some explanation.
WORK OUT
These can be used to improve the fitness of your horses. All
uninjured horses participate and their fitness will increase or
(sometimes) decrease with training. If overtrained, a horse may
become totally unfit or even injured. Obviously, the fitter a
horse is, the better chance it will have in a race. Any number of
workouts may be done in a week (limited by your bank balance), but
once you have left the screen, you may not return that week!
SELL HORSE
If you want to strengthen your position by buying better horses,
you have to sell to make space first.
RETIRE TO STUD
Another way to create space in the stable is to retire a horse;
this will bring you in a weekly stud fee, the size of which depends
on the horse's attributes and record.
JOCKEYS
You can improve your chances in the races by hiring a better
jockey.
VISIT STUD FARM
(Week 1 only) Each season you are given the opportunity to sire a
colt, which will be available to join your stable the following
season.
THE RACES
When you have completed your training for the week. select RACES.
You will then be given the opportunity to enter up to six selected
races, details of which will be shown. A horse cannot be entered
in a race of lower class; for example, a horse of class 25 can only
enter races of class 25 or higher.
A horse winning or coming second will improve its class; entering a
race of a much higher class could result in a horse over-stretching
itself and becoming injured, which results in a drop in class.
Entry fees for each race are 10% of the prize money.
When all races are completed, the week is over, and you are given a
financial report.
On the last week of each season, you will be offered the chance to
enter the classic races.
Thanx for reading and enjoy the snapshot everyone. Many thanx to
Steve Bye for giving myself permission to release the snapshot and
dox.
Andy Gibson (AGAS Productions) - November 1996
PS It's a pity that the snapshot doesn't show you the loading
digi-pic! Yeah, a digi-pic on the Speccy! Who would have thought it
possible? I'll maybe try and grab the image soon! In fact, I'll
do that right now and include it for ya all to see (prepare to be
amazed! Err, maybe not!)
I'll ask Steve to send me his cassette of The Manager to snapshot
and I think that will be all six of Steve's Speccy games released
once again. Look out for it soon...
Bye...
