  26. NEW FEATURES

  29. ATAPI
  30.  
  31. atapi.device included. This device allows the use of IDE CD-Roms with 
  32. the embedded IDE-port of the A4000, A4000T, A600 and A1200.
  33. ATAPI streamers should work, too.
  34. To give it a try, connect a CD-Rom to the A4000, A600, A1200 IDE port
  35. and start the Install-CDFS program.
  36. CacheCDFS will use the atapi device automatically.
  37. See the ATAPI.doc for further details.

  39. NOTE: ATAPI works better, if IDEFIX is installed!

  43. IDEFIX
  44.  
  45. On A600/A1200/A4000 machines, you can use IDEfix to improve your IDE port.
  46. IDEfix makes your IDE port faster & more reliable.
  47. The programs IDEfix and LoadIDE will be copied to your C: drawer automatically,
  48. if you have one of these machines.
  49. You can use harddisks with the 4 drive adapter and you can use SyQuest IDE
  50. drives.
  51. Type IDEfix to enable an immediate patch or LoadIDE to make IDEfix reset
  52. resident.
  53. IDEfix MUST be started, before atapi is run!
  54. In other words: IDEfix must be started before the CD-Rom is mounted!
  55.  
  56. Put one of the following lines behind SetPatch in your startup-sequence:
  57.  
  58. LoadIDE start quiet
  59.  
  60. It starts IDEfix, installs the immediate patch and makes IDEfix reset
  61. resident.
  62.

  66. Makes IDEfix reset resident and reboots the Amiga

  71. Only starts the immediate patch.

  74. NOTE: You must experiment which solution you like most.
  75. Making IDEfix reset resident and rebooting is the "cleanest"
  76. and most system friendly way of running IDEfix.
  77. On some systems, IDEfix must be loaded in Chip memory to be
  78. reset resident, which will cause slower performance as the immediate
  79. patch.
  80. If you are not having troubles, you may prefer the immediate
  81. patch without reboot.
  82. If you experience problems making IDEfix reset resident, try
  83. LoadIDE with the CHIP or the 4K keyword.
  84. CHIP forces IDEfix to load into chip memory.
  85. 4K leaves 4 kbyte space to the end of memory.

  89. SHIP
  90.  
  91. Ship allows you to park your harddisk. It works only, if IDEfix is running.

  98. it. To unpark a drive without accessing it, type:

  114. will park after inactivity. Any access to the drive will unpark

  128. MountIDE can be used to Mount additional drives (e.g. additional SyQuest
  129. cartridges). IDEfix must be running for MountIDE to work properly.
  130. Enter MountIDE from the CLI to mount a newly formatted or newly inserted
  131. cartridge.
  132. You can type MountIDE force to override any RDB Last Drive flags.

  136. AUTOPARKPREFS

  138. This program allows you to store your desired Autopark time on each harddisk.

  142. 4-DRIVE ADAPTER
  143.  
  144. Both IDEfix and ATAPI support the 4-DRIVE adapter (sold seperately).
  145. You can use 4 IDE units (harddisks, CD-Roms, etc) with your internal IDE
  146. controller on A1200 & A4000 machines.
  147. The 4-DRIVE adapter requires Kickstart 3.0 or better and does not work with
  148. Kickstart 2.04.

  154. Finally I've written a SCSI-II CDDA Audio player.
  155. It is very small and powerful.

  159. Toshiba_XA

  161. The program is no longer needed and has been removed (see below).
  162. If Toshiba_XA (or a similar program) is installed on your machine,
  163. it should be deleted!

  169. Gadget QUIET

  172. Will disable warning requesters during mount.
  173. This is useful, if you have an external CD-Rom drive which is
  174. not always switched on and you wish to leave automount enabled.

  176. Gadget AUTOLOWER
  177. (Similar to "AL" in Control field of mountlist entry)

  179. If a CD with "real" lowercase characters is inserted, 
  180. the conversions to lowercase are temporary switched off.

  221. The FileSystem now supports MultiSession CDs without the need of
  222. additional tools.

  224. The FileSystem is now able to recognize Audio CDs and can play
  225. them by double clicking the CDDA icon (This only works with SCSI-II
  226. compatible CD-Rom drives!).

  228. Each double click will play/pause the current track.

  230. A double-double click (4 times!) will skip to the next track.

  232. If you like to use an own icon instead of the default one, copy it
  233. to ENV:CDDA.info BEFORE starting the CacheCDFS.

  235. With the CDFSprefs program you can define an external Audio player
  236. (e.g the new PlayCD) which will be started if you click the CDDA icon.

  238. The FileSystem now supports XA-Disks with Toshiba CD-Roms.
  239. The Toshiba_XA program is obsolete and has been deleted from the
  240. distribution disk.

  242. Typing "Version CD0:" now works.
  243.  
  244. ACTION_INHIBIT issued by the Workbench task is now ignored, making life
  245. much easier for a poor filesystem programmer.

  248. RockRidge disks are now much better supported.
  249. You can switch between ISO and RockRidge filenames with the preferences
  250. program. Further you can decide if you wish to have RockRidge filenames
  251. case sensitive or not. Thanks go to Angela Schmidt for this suggestion.

  256. CD32-Emulator 43.x
  257.  
  258. Gadgets that are not useful for your configuartion are now ghosted 
  259. (e.g. NoFastMem on ChipMem only machines, NoDataCache on 68020 machines).
  260.  
  261. USE 68040.LIBRARY
  262. Only selectable on machines with an MC68040 or better processor.
  263. The Commodore 68040.library is only loaded, if this gadget is
  264. selected. Some programs (e.g. Oscar or Video Creator) have severe
  265. problems, if this library is loaded. Once the Emulator is initialized
  266. or SetPatch has been run, this gadget will be ghosted and the settings
  267. can't be changed anymore.
  268. If you don't wish to use the commodore 68040.library, a private "dummy" 
  269. 68040.library will be used instead.
  270. Note that this "dummy" library will always disable the DataCache to
  271. work properly with Zorro-III DMA boards.
  272.  
  273. LOAD WORKBENCH
  274. Will load the Workbench immediately BEFORE booting from a CD.
  275. This is required for the game Morph (and possibly others) to run and
  276. sometimes handy for debugging purposes.
  277.  
  278. TOOLTYPE CDWIN ENTRY
  279. This defines the stream, where any output from the startup-sequence of
  280. a CD appears while it is booted.
  281. Previous versions always used NIL: as the output stream which caused
  282. funny effects sometimes.
  283. The default is CDWIN=CON:0/0/700/600/CD-Startup/AUTO/CLOSE, meaning
  284. that the window will only open IF the startup-sequence does any
  285. output.
  286. Usually you shouldn't need to touch this!
  287. To restore default behaviour, simply delete the entry.
  288. Then start the emulator and save settings.
  289.  
  290. Any filename is allowed here.
  291. Examples: 
  292. CDWIN=NIL: will disable any output.
  293. CDWIN=CON:0/0/700/600/CD-Startup/AUTO/CLOSE/WAIT will keep the window
  294. open until you hit the close gadget.
  295. CDWIN=Harddisk:name will write the output to a file on your harddisk.

  298. TOOLTYPE NOAGA ENTRY
  299. For debugging only. Keep your hands off!
  300. Only documented here for all you "ToolTypeWatch" hackers. 
  301. Will disable AA/AGA modes. Works only if SetPatch hasn't been run yet.
  302. Saving settings will always discard this entry.
  303. Is of not much use for you anyway.

  306. CDTV DISCS
  307. If you try to boot from a CDTV disc, a warning requester will appear.
  308. You may now select, if you like to Boot with AA/AGA or ECS emulation.
  309. (Some CDTV Titles do not work correctly with AA/AGA enabled).
  310. This only works if SetPatch has not been run yet!
  311. Again: None of the CDTV specific system modules (e.g. cdtv.device) are 
  312. currently emulated!
  313. Programs using CDTV system modules will NOT work properly, even if they
  314. work with a CD32!
  315.  
  316.  
  317. Support for CDROMS faster than double speed
  318. A new gadget was added: Delay p. Block. If your CD-Rom is a triple or
  319. quadruple speed drive, you may add delays between reading of blocks.
  320. Good values should be between 50 and 100 for fast drives.
  321. Leave it to zero, if you have a single or double speed drive.

  325. TIPS
  326.  
  327. Sony CDU-55E (ATAPI drive)
  328. PlayCD & Filesystem changed, that Audio play works with this drive.
  329.  
  330.  
  331. SetPatch:
  332. SetPatch 40.14 or better is required by the CD32-Emulator.
  333. SetPatch should NOT be run before you start the CD32-Emulator to get
  334. full control of all features (AA/ECS switch, 68040.library control).
  335. The Emulator will load SetPatch if you click INSTALL or BOOT.
  336. If you quit, SetPatch will not be loaded. This is no problem, as
  337. in case of your normal startup-sequence SetPatch will be loaded
  338. anyway. This strategy should always work for any configuration.
  339.

  341. Oktagon/ALF-III/ALF-II users:
  342. For best performance of the emulator, you should use the SoftSCSI#?.device
  343. instead of the oktagon.device or ALF.device.
  344. While installing the software, select the SoftSCSI#?.device from
  345. FindCD and click USE.
  346.  
  347.  
  348. TandemCD / bsc CD1200 users:
  349. New tandemcd#?.devices (version 41.6) are on this disk.
  350. The installer utility will automatically update the appropriate device.
  351.  
  352. Changes made:

  354. Workaround for bug in Mitsumi FX-001D (Rev. D-02) firmware added.
  355.    
  356. This fixes the "Read-Error" problem with some Amiga CDs
  357. (e.g. Megahits 2, GigaPD Update 2).
  358. The drive has to be put in a special "recovery" mode, otherwise
  359. these CDs will cause read errors or other strange behaviour.
  360. The device driver will only switch in this special mode, if
  361. the drive fails to recover with its own built-in error correction 
  362. after 5 read retries.
  363. So, it may take about 10 seconds for the device to switch into
  364. this "special" mode.
  365. This mode will be kept active until you change the disk.
  366. (Gee, this is clever, isn't it?)
  367.  
  368. I know this really is a kludge, but reading these CDs in a clumsy,
  369. slow and non elegant way is far better than not reading them at all!
  370.  
  371. This strategy works fine with my test equipment (A4000/40, TandemCD,
  372. Mitsumi FX-001-D Rev D-02) and the speed is at least acceptable.
  373.  
  374. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF THIS METHOD FIXES YOUR PROBLEMS!

  377. TandemAT / bsc CD1200plus users:
  378. New tandemat#?.devices (version 5.13) are on this disk.
  379. The installer utility will automatically update the appropriate device.

  381. Changes made:
  382. A lot! Got most IDE-Atapi drives to work.
  383. Further you may now use an IDE Harddisk together with a CD-Rom drive
  384. with the Tandem IDE port.
  385. The harddisk should be the master, the CD-Rom the slave drive.
  386. The harddisk needs the file "AT" in your Sys:Expansion drawer to work.
  387. Sorry, this does not yet work with the CD1200plus.

  391. 68040 users:
  392. Machine crashes before loading the CD32-Emulator:
  393.  
  394. In general, you should NOT use the Commodore 68040.library for playing
  395. CD32-Titles! Most titles do NOT work properly with the 68040.library!
  396. Make sure, that SetPatch or Enforcer are NOT run before you
  397. start the CD32-Emulator, as they WILL load the 68040.library!
  398.  
  399. First solution: Try to get the obsolete 68040.library version 37.4
  400. from Commodore (the version shipped with Workbench 3.0 is 37.10, the
  401. version shipped with Workbench 3.1 is 37.30). Version 37.4 doesn't make
  402. so much problems with CD32 games.
  403.  
  404. If your machine crashes or behaves strange while loading the emulator
  405. (which should never happen!), try the following:
  406.  
  407. - Make a Boot floppy with "Make CD32 Floppy"
  408. - Edit the startup-sequence.
  409.   Add "C:SetPatch QUIET NOCACHE" before the emulator is started.
  410.  
  411. If now all works fine, but you have titles not running correctly with
  412. the Commodore 68040.library, try this:
  413.  
  414. - Delete the 68040.library from the Boot Floppy.
  415.   Delete DF0:LIBS/68040.library
  416.  
  417. - Copy the 68040_dummy.library (locacted in your CD32 directory) to the 
  418.   LIBS: directory of the Boot Floppy and rename it to 68040.library.
  419.   Copy .../CD32/68040_dummy.library to DF0:LIBS/68040.library
  420.  
  421. Check the spelling! Do not use uppercase letters!
  422.  
  423. If the 68040_dummy.library does not work with your 68040 board, you are
  424. out of luck. Please give me a note if this happens!

  428. BUG FIXES & OTHER ENHANCEMENTS

  431. Since the first release (Disk 1.3), the following bugs were fixed:

  434. CDFS Install script:

  436. Added quotes around device name, as this is required by older mount
  437. commands.

  441. CD32-Emulator (control module):

  443. NOWININIT was broken! If NOWININIT was specified in the ToolTypes,
  444. the other tooltype settings were not interpreted correctly.
  445. This bug was reported by Keith Smith of Almathera Systems, otherwise
  446. it would have be still unnoticed.

  449. GAME STORE requester opened not relative to the current directory.
  450.  
  451. Now interprets the CDs startup-sequence before executing it, leaving
  452. out any commands dangerous for your system. This greatly enhances
  453. compatibility (e.g. Video Creator does not crash anymore if you
  454. click "BOOT". In fact, it was the NoReset program that crashed the
  455. machine!).
  456.  
  457. Having a seperate output stream enhances compatibility with PD-Disks
  458. (e.g. The Demo Collection) designed for the CDTV.
  459.  
  460. Booting now happens as a seperate process, allowing the emulation
  461. to free all no longer used resources after the boot sequence has been
  462. started.

  464. Device checking is now performed in the control module (was in cd.device).
  465. Errors generated, if device is no CD-Rom or CD-Rom doesn't support SCSI-2.

  469. CD32-Emulator install scripts:

  471. Line 120 of the "Make CD32 Floppy" script was bogus.

  473. The scripts omitted the use of the Commodore 68040.library.
  474. Bad idea, since this crashes on machines with Zorro-III DMA
  475. controllers or Second-Level cache 68040 boards.
  476. The CD32-Emulator gives you now more sophisticated control over
  477. 68040.library use (see above) by adding an own "dummy" 68040.library
  478. and should NEVER EVER crash again (hopefully)!

  530. Workaround for these controllers added. Fixed since Disk release 1.3a.

  532. Starting with version 41.x, CacheCDFS can read CDs with a logical sector
  533. size different from 2048 bytes (e.g. required by the Fish & More III CD
  534. from Xetec).

  536. Added dynamic changes depending on the CD inserted to the fssm environment
  537. for the 42.x release.
  538. This was requested by Angela Schmidt for future development.

  540. NOTE FOR DEVELOPERS:
  541. If the a CD is changed while the FileSystem is inhibited, the fssm
  542. enviromnemt will NOT change!
  543. If you detect a disk change, you MUST do an ACTION_INHIBIT FALSE for
  544. the environment to become valid again.
  545. The DosList must be unlocked for the change to happen immediately.
