  6. |RNature and climate:|N The three islands Middle Island, East Island and West Island form the Ashmore group. 
  7. Ashmore and Cartier Islands are located about 320 km from the Australian northwest coast.
  8. In 1983 the islands were made a national nature reserve.
  9. |REconomy:|N All islands are uninhabited but often visited by Indonesian fishingboats that traditionally fish in these waters and collect water on the islands.
