  6. |RNature and climate:|N Four islands in the Pacific Ocean half way between New Zealand and Panama. The islands are Pitcairn, Henderson, Ducie and Oeno. Only Pitcairn is inhabited.
  7. Average temperature in January 24°C and in July 19°C.
  8. Percipitation 2000 mm.
  9. |RPeople:|N Settled 1790 by 9 mutineers of HMS Bounty with 12 women and 6 men from Tahiti. In 1856 there was 194 inhabitants and at their own request they were moved to Norfolk Island. 43 of them returned in 1859 to 1964.
  10. |REconomy:|N The islanders live on agriculture, fishing and sales of stamps.
  11. |RHistory:|N Pitcairn was discovered 1767 by Philip Carteret and settled 1790 by the mutineers of HMS Bounty.
  12. By 1850 the population had grown to big for the island and all inhabitants were moved to Norfolk Islands. 1859 to 1864 43 persons moved back to Pitcairn.
  13. The islands are administrated by the British representative in New Zealand.
