--- 1. Introduction --------------------------------------------------------
AAA is an easy, quick and powerful tool for keeping and managing
notes. You can hide it by clicking on its icon in the System Tray.
Each NotePad You create with AAA has a maximum of 64 labeled and
fully configurable sheets of unlimited length. It supports text
sorting, printing, autosaving... and much more!
All updates will be firstly published in my HomePage so, if You want
to be up to date, check the URL http://www.geocities.com/Athens/4442/
--- 2. Legal Stuff ---------------------------------------------------------
AAA is *FREEWARE*. That means, You don't have to pay me anything and
I'm not forced to give You support. Right? :)))
I do give support when I have time, but I can't guarantee You
anything and it might take a while before You get an answer.
Registration is NOT needed, but I always appreciate EMail's (or snail
mail's) telling me that You use the program.
I take NO responsibility of *ANY* damages caused by this program!
--- 3. System Requirements -------------------------------------------------
AAA requires a 386 or better CPU, with at least 8 Mbytes of RAM,
running Windows 95 (or later) or Windows NT 4.0 (or later), and
300 free KBytes on the HD.
You also need to install the Visual Basic 4.0 runtime files (32-bit):
You can freely download them from the Microsoft official site at the
URL http://www.microsoft.com/ or from almost all FTP site (look for
the file vb432run.zip).
--- 4. How to INSTALL ------------------------------------------------------
Create a directory for AAA, UnZip in that directory AAA_v122.zip or,
if that is already done, move ALL its contents to that directory.
Create a shortcut to AAA.exe in Your Start Menu (maybe inside the
"Startup" folder: this will load AAA each time You start Windows).
If You are upgrading a previous version You only need to overwrite
old files. Doing so You will keep all the existing NotePads.
Note that, if You are upgrading from a version older than 1.10, AAA
will not start, claiming a corruption of its configuration file
AAA.ini. Delete that file and restart AAA!
--- 5. How to UNINSTALL ----------------------------------------------------
If, due to some unimaginable reason, You would not like AAA, You can
close AAA (if it is running), delete the installation directory and
any shortcut You added to the Start Menu.
That will completely uninstall AAA. :-(
--- 6. How to use ----------------------------------------------------------
Command line parameters (case unsensitive):
/? or /h or /help
will show only the "Informations About AAA" form.
/m or /minimized
will start AAA minimized into the System Tray.
The parameters are not cumulative: use only one of them at once.
I hope that all the other functions and options should be self-
explanatory... otherwise You can help me to write down a more
comprehensive Help file!!!
I just want to point out the use of backups: if, for example, You use
the default settings and Your NotePad is AAA.txt, AAA will keep four
backups of Your notes, in the files AAA.txt.backup?.log, where ? is
0, 1, 2 and 3. If You want to restore one of them be careful that the
latter is NOT necessarily the most updated: look at the saving time!
Moreover, all the settings can be changed in the "Options" form but,
if You want to change the caption of the selected Tab, You can
directly right click anywhere in the Tab strip.
Finally You can use hotkeys for all the menu items. Look at menu
itself for the complete list of available hotkeys.
--- 7. Release History -----------------------------------------------------
Version 1.22.0138 - October 11, 1997
Improved the "Print" routine: now AAA always prints using the
screen font. Lines too long will be truncated if
WordWrap is selected in the "Options" form.
Fixed a bug in the "Sum Up" routine: it wrongly managed
numbers at the end of a line.
Version 1.21.0135 - October 10, 1997
Added a tool to sum up the numbers in the selected columns.
If You want to format numbers use english notations
(e.g.: 1,000,000.5).
Increased the maximum length of tabs captions to 64 chars.
Minor cosmetic changes.
Version 1.20.0132 - September 28, 1997
Added support to restore backups.
Added command line parameters: /? /h /help /m /minimized.
AAA will start even if its information files (FILE_ID.DIZ and
ReadMe.1st) are corrupted.
Fixed a bug in the "Load" routine: now only existing files
are accepted.
A lot of cosmetic changes.
Version 1.11.0117 - September 23, 1997
Added keys to automatically insert current time and date,
even in reverse format to simply sort them.
Fixed a bug in the menu manager ("Print" and "Paste" could
not be enabled when they should).
Minor cosmetic changes.
Version 1.10.0114 - September 11, 1997
Deleted setup.exe and browser.dll: they was only a bother!
Now You can choose if the standard Close buttons of Windows
will Hide or Exit AAA.
Added support to recognize and read NotePad files even if You
change the path of AAA.
Improved the "Hide" routine.
Fixed the bug that made AAA sometimes crash at startup on
slow or too loaded systems.
Fixed a minor bug in "Exit" routine.
Some cosmetic change.
Version 1.03.0099 - September 5, 1997
Improved management of backups.
Minor cosmetic changes.
Version 1.02.0097 - September 4, 1997
Fixed a bug in "Sort" routine: it wrongly managed a text with
no carriage return at the end.
Now You can Exit AAA only clicking "Exit" in the toolbar or
in the menu.
Version 1.01.0094 - August 14, 1997
Added support to rename a Tab with a right click of the mouse
in the tabstrip.
Minor cosmetic changes.
Version 1.00.0092 - August 10, 1997
First public release.
--- 8. Known Problems ------------------------------------------------------
Shut-down: Windows NT may not shut-down until You manually close AAA.
It is a bug of the ToolBar Control (from COMCTL32.OCX).
Visual Basic 5.0 has not that bug so, when (if!!!) I will
purchase VB5, it will be fixed.
WARNING: if You close AAA with the Task Manager You may lose
the latest notes.
Printing: a few old B/W printer drivers may behave badly with AAA,
especially in multiple prints.
--- 9. Feedback, Suggestions, Bug-Reports ----------------------------------
