  2.                                       ANIMAL BITES

  4. Animal bites carry a high risk of infection, therefore require
  5. professional attention promptly.Infection may develop hours, or
  6. days, after an animal bite. Signs and symptoms of infection
  7. are pain & tenderness at the wound site, redness, heat, swelling,
  8. pus at the wound site red streaks in the skin around the wound and
  9. possible swollen glands closest to the wound.

  11. First aid care for animal bites includes washing the wound well
  12. with soap and water, if there is no heavy bleeding. Then cover the
  13. wound and seek professional attention. A serious wound should be
  14. cleaned only by trained medical personnel.

  19.                                       INSECT BITES
  20.  
  21. Insect bites and stings can be life-threatening to people with
  22. severe allergy to the insect's venom!
  23.  
  24. Signs and symptoms of allergic reaction include pain, swelling of
  25. the throat, redness or discoloration at the site of the bite,
  26. itching, hives, decreased consciousness and difficult or noisy
  27. breathing.

  29. First aid calls for being alert for signs of allergic reaction or
  30. shock and seeking medical attention as quickly as possible for
  31. these victims!

  33. If a stinger remains in the victim, you may try to remove it
  34. carefully with a tweezers or by scraping with the edge of a credit
  35. card. Be careful not to squeeze the stinger as this will inject
  36. more venom.

  38. Once a stinger has been removed, the would should be washed well
  39. with soap and water. Cold compresses will help relieve pain and
  40. swelling. The stung area should be kept lower than the heart to
  41. slow circulation of the venom.

  44. REACTION AND IF THEY APPEAR, SEEK PROFESSIONAL MEDICAL ATTENTION
