SHAREWARE CONCEPT
Criss Cross Plus is a copyrighted program protected by both U.S. and
international copyright law. You are authorized to use it without charge for
a limited period of time under the terms of the TCE's license agreement. After
that time, you must register & pay for Criss Cross Plus to continue using it.
Criss Cross Plus is distributed as shareware. Shareware is commercial software
distributed in an unconventional manner. Microcomputers copy information very
easily. Instead of trying to make your life miserable and frustrating with
complicated copy protection, shareware takes advantage of this to reach as
many users as possible at the lowest cost.
Anyone may copy a shareware program and distribute it to whomever they desire,
provided they do not charge a fee or alter it. The program must be distributed
in compressed form with all files intact.

SHAREWARE ISN'T FREE
However, unlike conventional distribution, shareware allows you to evaluate
the product before you decide to purchase it. The price is often lower, as
well, because of reduced advertising and distribution costs. It can only work
with your support. If you are still using a shareware product after a couple
of weeks, then it is obviously worth something to you, and you should register
it.

GETTING STARTED WITH FLEXI-TUTOR
CRISS CROSS PLUS
INTRODUCTION
Finally a Math program that will stimulate your students while giving them a
varied array of problems.
Criss Cross Plus can be used to practice any combination of the following:
Addition
Subtraction
Multiplication
Division
TIME TABLES FACTS
Flexi-Tutor Criss Cross Plus offers an infinite combination of problems based
on a definition file you create. The definition file contains the parameters
you set, including the range or level of each math problem (minimum and
maximum value) as well as how each type of math problem should be answered
(Right to Left or Left to Right). You can even select the active types of math
problems that will be presented to the students (Addition,
Subtraction,Multiplication & Division) by easily toggling On or Off for each
type.
The Flexi-Tutor Math Set Up Screen is used for 3 programs: Criss Cross Plus,
Math Bomber, and Speed Math. The values are set for each function of math.
The teacher decides which level each student or class can master. When
playing Speed Math, adjust the Speed Math Delay to suit the class or
individual. The speed can be changed whenever you feel necessary. This
flexibility is what makes TCE's Flexi-Tutor programs a teacher's dream.
CRISS CROSS PLUS
(1 or 2 players) A Tic Tac Toe Game with math problems. After you set the
skill level, the student will try to get 3 in a row to win the game against
another student or against the computer. Addition, Subtraction,
Multiplication, and Division.
ABOUT THIS MANUAL
When writing any manual or letter, one overwhelming problem always arises;
identifying the reader and then writing to his/her level of expertise.
Flexi-Tutor is designed to be used by both children and experienced
computerists. Depending on your expertise, we hope you will find either the
general overviews or detailed step by step operations appropriate for you.
This Manual is divided up into an overview of the Main Menu Selection Window
operations and a detailed description of each program.
At the beginning of each program, an Objective list for that program is
included. This is only a partial list and we are sure you will expand it as
you use the program.
This manual was printed with the back of each page left intentionally blank.
Use this space to write any needed notes or additional information supplied
with future updates. Have your manual handy when calling TCE for technical
assistance.

INTRODUCTION TO CRISS CROSS PLUS
Welcome to Flexi Tutor Criss Cross Plus, developed as part of TCE's first
flexible line of software. The flexibility which is available in this program
allows you not only to set the Skill Levels for the students, but choose which
kind of problem (add, subtract, multiply, or divide) will be presented. You then
decide in which direction the student will answer. The difficulty or ease of
use is determined by you, the teacher. At last it is possible to challenge one
type of student while tutoring another on needed skills .
The student is presented with a nine square playing board. After a choice is
made, a math problem appears in the square. The student scores his first X
by answering the problem correctly. If the answer is incorrect, the square
clears and your opponent is allowed his choice of squares. When playing
against the computer, every answer you get wrong is won by the computer.
CRISS CROSS PLUS OBJECTIVES
* Use Criss Cross Plus to reinforce Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication
and Division
* Practice all math functions totaling up to 9999
* Use screen to play strategically against a partner
* Use of the keyboard to type in the correct answers
* Use the Flexibility to target the program for individual students
* Use the flexibility to challenge a gifted student
* Use the flexibility to tutor a struggling student

PREFERENCE MENU
SKILL LEVEL
At the PREFERENCE MENU, use the Arrow Keys to Highlight Skill Level and Press
<Enter> to select the Skill Level Set Up Screen.
This Skill Level Set Up Screen is in essence the basis of our Flexi Programs.
On this screen you, the teacher, are able to insert your own specific skill
level for your class, or for any individual student. By following the simple
help prompts at the bottom of the screen, you are creating mastery skill
levels (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) in whichever
math program you choose. The amounts chosen are the maximum amounts the
problem will total. You can at anytime, go into the Skills Level Set Up
Screen and change the problems to better challenge the student. On the other
hand, if the problems seem too hard, it is then possible to go into the Skills
Level Set Up Screen again and lower the values. The flexibility is in your
hands. Once your problems are made, Press <Esc> to Save your information and
return you to the Main Menu.
ACTIVE MATH PROBLEMS
At the PREFERENCE MENU, use the Arrow Keys to Highlight ACTIVE MATH PROBLEMS
and Press <Enter> to select. Once again our emphasis on Flexibility is
observed. This screen is presented for you, the teacher, to decide which
types of math problems will be active in the program. Move to Selection with
Arrow Keys Press <Enter> to select or Press <Esc> to Close Selection Window.
Once you have made your decision, Highlight each selection and press <Enter>.
This time the math style will toggle from On to Off or Off to On. The
selection will change when <Enter> is Pressed.
Once your selections are made, Press <Esc> to close Selection Window and the
choices will be saved. You will now return to the Main Menu.
ANSWER INPUT STYLE
At the PREFERENCE MENU, use the Arrow Keys to Highlight ANSWER INPUT STYLE and
Press <Enter> to select.
Here again, you have the flexibility to modify the presentation. After you
have decided on your active math problems, they will be presented in yellow
print, while the one(s) not chosen will be in cyan or dim. Move to Selection
with Arrow Keys, Press <Enter> to select or Press <Esc> to Close Selection
Window
With the student in mind, it is your choice in this window to either have the
child answer the math problem from left to right or from right to left. The
age of the child and the difficulty of the problem will aid you in deciding
how the child should answer the problem. This decision will tell the program
which way the answer should be entered and on which side the answer box should
begin.
Since all division problems are answered left to right it is a set choice.
The choice is disabled/dimmed, which means you cannot change it.

Once your selections are made, Press <Esc> to close Selection Window and the
choices will be saved to disk. You will now be returned to the Main Menu.
SOUND ON
At the PREFERENCE MENU, use the Arrow Keys to Highlight SOUND ON and Press
<Enter> to select.
The selection will automatically toggle to Sound Off. No screen is presented,
you just choose Sound On or Sound Off by Pressing <Enter> Since sound is an
important part of the program, the program automatically defaults to Sound On.
Some classrooms will need the sound to be muted and some won't. We leave this
option up to you.
PLAY CRISS CROSS PLUS
At the FILE MENU, use the Arrow Keys to Highlight PLAY and Press <Enter> to
select.
At this time, you will decide the number of players that will play Criss Cross
Plus.
Move to Selection with Arrow Keys
Press <Enter> to select.
Once selection is made, your child is presented with a nine square playing
board.
ONE PLAYER
Now that the preliminary steps are completed, the playing board will be
presented. If one player was chosen the prompt "PLAYER 1 SELECT A SQUARE"
will appear. Selection can now be made by pressing "1-9" When square is
selected it will zoom out for easy visibility in answering .
After the square is selected, a math problem from your choice from the Active
Math Problems is presented with the blinking box on the side you selected from
the Active Input Style Menu. Answer is entered by pressing the numbers "0-9"
(child need not press Enter). When the computer detects the child's answer,
the blinking box will move to the next position and await child's input.
NOTE: After the square is selected, you can
Press <Esc> to Exit and return to the Main Menu.
Once the child has successfully answered the problem, an "X" will appear in
the square. The student has TWO chances to get it right and receive an "X" or
on the third try the answer will appear and the computer will be given the
square by placing an "O" in the square.
Game ends when either three "X"s or three "O"s appear in a row, or all squares
have been played and a stalemate occurs (no winner).
