The EARTHWATCH 3.5 program will graphically display for you in color
the majestic march through time of the earth-moon system showing the 24
hour night/day cycle due to the earth's rotation, the monthly phases of
the moon, and the earth's annual trip around the sun, with the passing
of the four seasons.
Two separate programs are included: EWC (CGA graphics), and EWV
(VGA graphics).
A map of the world (Mercator projection) will slowly scroll eastward
across the screen as the continents in turn move daily from pre-dawn
darkness through sunrise and daylight, then through sunset back to night.
Choose from three map types: elevation, natural, or national boundaries.
Watch the shape of the daylight zone change almost imperceptably from
day to day as the seasons progress, with the days shorter in winter and
longer in summer for the Northern Hemisphere and vice-versa in the
Southern Hemisphere.
Sunrise and sunset times along with percentage of daylight for your
city or anywhere you designate are calculated and displayed for the
present date or a date that you choose. The phase and position of
the moon will also be displayed numerically and graphically.
The VGA version allows the tracking and display of latitude and
longitude coordinates and major cities as you move a mouse-driven
cursor over the map display. This version also offers the option
of selecting between two map types, elevation and natural.
A special Almanac screen can be called up to display additional
information such as a comparison of sunrise & sunset times with those
of the previous day, the number of days remaining until the beginning
of the next season (solstices & equinoxes), and more.
Follow the sun's progress along its annual trek around the Analemma,
the figure 8 pattern found frequently on globes that shows the sun's
declination (apparent north-south excursions in the sky) and the
"equation of time."
See at a glance the local time anywhere on the populated earth and
observe whether that location is experiencing night, day, dawn, dusk,
or anywhere between.
Up to ten locations around the world may be highlighted on the display
to help you monitor the status of various cities, etc.
All of this may be done accurately and in real time while it is
actually happening! Or, if you wish, reset the date and/or time to monitor
the earth in the past or future.
Replace your ordinary calendar or menu graphic program with EARTHWATCH
when your PC is in "standby" mode for an informative and fascinating
earth monitoring clock.
The EARTHWATCH program will run on any IBM compatible PC equipped with
CGA or VGA graphics support. A Microsoft compatible mouse is required
to use the latitude/longitude tracking & display option.
It is strongly recommended thet EARTHWATCH be run from a fixed (hard)
disk, particularly EWV, to aviod some fairly long waiting periods when
accessing images. Also, EWV builds temporary bit-map image files requiring
310K bytes of free disk space.
EARTHWATCH consists of a total of 34 files, 28 of which are required for
the VGA version and 9 for the CGA (3 are shared by both). They may all
be copied onto one directory on your fixed disk, from which either program
may be run, or split into two separate directories.
The VGA files are:
BRUN45.EXE EWV35.EXE MAP1.INT MAP3.GRN
COLKEY.EXE GAZ35.DAT MAP1.RED MAP3.INT
COPYM1.BAT HELPSC.EXE MAP2.BLU MAP3.RED
COPYM2.BAT HELPV35.DAT MAP2.GRN MSLOOKUP.DAT
COPYM3.BAT HLITEV35.DAT MAP2.INT README.DOC
EWV.BAT MAP1.BLU MAP2.RED V35TZDET.DAT
EWV35.DAT MAP1.GRN MAP3.BLU V35TZDR.DAT
The CGA files are:
BRUN45.EXE EWC35.EXE HELPC35.DAT MAPC35.DAT
EWC.BAT GAZ35.DAT HLITEC35.DAT README.DOC
EWC35.DAT
To run, change to the directory chosen and type:
EWC (followed by ENTER key) to run the CGA version.
EWV (followed by ENTER key) to run the VGA version.
