  4. Q: 'I use a mouse all the time in Windows, but this program tells me that my 
  5.    mouse isn't connected."
  6. A: Windows talks with the mouse directly, but nearly all DOS programs 
  7.    communicate with the mouse through a mouse driver called MOUSE.SYS or 
  8.    MOUSE.COM. Typically, the CONFIG.SYS file should contain a line more or 
  9.    less reading like this:
  10.               DEVICE=C:\MOUSE\MOUSE.SYS 
  11.    Alternatively, MOUSE.COM should be referred to in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file. 
  12.    Have a person who is experienced in modifying these files install the 
  13.    mouse driver.

  15. Q: 'I keep getting a MISSING/INDISTINCT BEND OR HOOK message.'
  16. A: A hook represents a distinct flick of the brush with an abrupt change of 
  17.    direction. The last stroke of the character 'ye' (also, still, even) in 
  18.    Lesson 1 is a typical case in point. This stroke goes down, across, and 
  19.    then should abruptly flick upwards with a sharp angle.
