  18. Installation Steps
  19. ------------------

  21. You can use 4 methods to install Windows 98 display driver:
  22. Suppose the path of your driver CD is "D:\" and Use Windows 98 as an
  23. example.
  24.  
  25. Method 1 (PnP installation)
  26.   1. Remove your previous video adapter and plug your ASUS display card in system.
  27.      Start Windows. Windows will find a new device and pop up a PnP dialog
  28.      that asks for its driver.
  29.   2. Type the "D:\Win9x" for Windows to find the INF file of ASUS display card.
  30.   3. Windows will install its driver automatically and then request for
  31.      restarting.
  32.   4. Choose Yes to reboot your system. The driver will work when Windows
  33.      comes up.
  34.   5. Note that this method will not install DirectX runtime libraries and
  35.      VGARTD driver.
  36.  
  37. Method 2 (Display property page)
  38.   1. Start Windows, switch display to VGA mode, then restart.
  39.   2. Press right key of mouse on your desktop and select "Properties".
  40.   3. Click the "Settings" tab.
  41.   4. Click "Advanced...".
  42.   5. Click "Change" button on the right of the first item "Adapter".
  43.   6. Click "Have Disk.." button - "Install from Disk" box will appear.
  44.   7. Click "Browse" button - "Open" box appears.
  45.   8. Select your CD drive in the "Drives" selection on the bottom.
  46.   9. Double click "Win9x" in the "Folders" selection.
  47.  10. "AsusNv9x.INF" appears in the filename selection.
  48.  11. Click "OK" button.
  49.  12. You will see a list of video cards. Select type of your VGA card
  50.      and click "OK".
  51.  13. After copying all files of the driver, it will back to
  52.      "Change Display Type".
  53.  14. Select Monitor type if necessary.
  54.  15. Click "Close" button and "Display Properties" box appears.
  55.  16. Click "Apply" button and "System Setting Change" box appears.
  56.  17. Click "Yes" to restart your Windows.
  57.  18. When Windows starts up, your video adapter is now ready to use.
  58.  19. Note that this method will not install DirectX runtime libraries.
  59.      You must install it by yourself. You also can not uninstall display
  60.      driver.

  62. Method 3 (ASUS Autorun. Quick installation)
  63.   1. Start Windows.
  64.   2. Put ASUS driver CD into CD-ROM drive.
  65.   3. The AutoPlay function of CD-ROM will work and pop up ASUS Autorun
  66.      window.
  67.   4. Select "Install display driver" option.
  68.   5. Follow the instructions on dialog. Driver will be installed and
  69.      request for restart.
  70.   6. Reboot system and your video adapter is now ready to use.

  72. Method 4 (Run ASUS installation program directly)
  73.   1. Start Windows.
  74.   2. Put ASUS driver CD into CD-ROM drive.
  75.   3. Change to "D:\Win9x" directory and execute "ANvSETUP.EXE". You also can
  76.      change to "D:\Win9x\ANvWest" or "D:\Win9x\ANvEast" directory
  77.      (depending on your language) for multi-language support installation.
  78.   4. Run "setup.exe".
  79.   5. Follow the instructions. Driver will be installed and request for
  80.      restarting.
  81.   6. Reboot system and your video adapter is now ready to use.

  85. Important notes
  86. ----------------
  87.  
  88. 1. Quick installation works only when it finds that Primary Display is
  89.    ASUS display card or device node exists. You can also
  90.    ignore the warning dialog and continue to install driver. If it do not
  91.    work, you must install driver via Windows PnP dialog or Display property
  92.    page (use ASUSNv9x.INF).
  93.  
  94. 2. ASUS display cards consume more electrical power so that your
  95.    motherboard must be able to provide enough electrical current in 3.3V
  96.    power to maintain its normal operation.
  97.  
  98. 3. ASUS display cards are recommended to use with Intel 440BX chipset
  99.    for best compatibility.
  100.  
  101. 4. If VIA chipset is on your mainboard, please install VIA VGARTD with normal mode.

  105. Trouble Shootings
  106. ------------------
  107.  
  108. 1. After installing the driver, Windows 98 doesn't prompt me for restarting
  109.    and the driver still doesn't work after I reboot it by myself.
  110.  
  111.    You may have installed similar drivers before. Try the following steps
  112.    to install:
  113.  
  114.    (1) Use right button of mouse to click on "My Computer" icon on desktop.
  115.    (2) Select "Properties" and "System Properties" box appears
  116.    (3) Click on "Device Manager" tab
  117.    (4) You will see a list of devices on your computer.
  118.    (5) If "Display adapters" appears in the list, click it.
  119.        If "Display adapters" doesn't appear, jump to step 9 and continue.
  120.  
  121.    (6) The name of your card will be listed in the box. Double click it.
  122.    (7) The properties box of your card appears. Select "Driver" tab.
  123.    (8) Click "Update Driver.." and follow the installation steps.
  124.  
  125.    (9) Click "Other devices" you will see your card is listed.
  126.   (10) Click on the name of card, the properties box appears.
  127.        Select "Driver" tab.
  128.   (11) Click "Change Driver.." and follow the installation steps.

  130. 2. After installation and restarting, Windows 98 informs me that display
  131.    setting is still incorrect. What can I do?
  132.  
  133.    There may be conflict between previous and current display drivers.
  134.    This is caused by not complete removal of previous display driver. Try
  135.    the following steps to remove it:
  136.  
  137.    (1) Use right button of mouse to click on "My Computer" icon on desktop.
  138.    (2) Select "Properties" and "System Properties" box appears
  139.    (3) Click on "Device Manager" tab
  140.    (4) You will see a list of devices on your computer.
  141.    (5) Open "Display adapters" in the list (double click it).
  142.    (6) You will find two (or more) conflicted adapters listed here.
  143.    (7) Remove all previous adapters by selecting them and press "Remove"
  144.    (8) Close Device Manager and restart Windows 98.
  145.    (9) Now display driver will work correctly.
