  17. Please read this README file and all the supplied documentation 
  18. BEFORE you continue the installation.

  21. 2. Installation Notes 
  22. =================================================================
  23. These drivers require DirectX 6.1 or DirectX 7.0 to support 
  24. DirectDraw & Direct3D applications.
  25.  
  26. InControl Tools 95 shortcuts are not compatible with Windows 98 
  27. and InControl Tools 98. It is important to uninstall any previous
  28. version of InControl Tools (e.g. InControl Tools 95) before 
  29. installation of InControl Tools 99. Uninstall from the Control 
  30. Panel by:
  31.     1.  Choosing "Add/Remove Programs"
  32.     2.  Select "Diamond Multimedia Product Installation & Removal"
  33.     3.  Click on the "Add/Remove" button
  34.     4.  Then follow the uninstall process.

  36. Preparing to install the Windows 9x Drivers
  37. -----------------------------------------------------------------
  38. Before installing the Diamond Stealth III S540 / S540 Xtreme /  SpeedStar A200 
  39. Windows 9x display drivers, switch your display driver to the "Standard VGA".
  40.     1. Open your Control Panel and select Display.  
  41.     2. Select the Settings tab and click the Change Display Type 
  42.     button.
  43.     3. Click the Change button.  
  44.     4. Select the Show All Devices radio button and scroll to the 
  45.     top of the left window and select Standard Display Types.
  46.     5. In the right window select Standard Display Adapter (VGA). 
  47.     Click OK.

  50. 3. Installation Instructions
  51. =================================================================
  52. NOTE:  This driver package should install itself upon being executed.  If
  53. it does not, these instructions are applicable.

  55. Manual Installation via .inf:
  56. -----------------------------------------------------------------
  57. Click Start, then Settings, then Control Panel.
  58.  
  59. Start the "Display" applet program. 
  60.  
  61. Select the "Settings" page, push the "Change Display Type" 
  62. button. Push the "Change" button in the "Adapter Type" area.
  63.  
  64. Push the "Have Disk" button and press "OK".
  65.  
  66. Specify the path to the new drivers' .inf file and press the 
  67.       <ENTER> key:
  68.       Example 1: Insert the drivers disk in the A: floppy drive,
  69.                  and enter A:\.
  70.       Example 2: Type in the name of the directory where you 
  71.                  copied the drivers, either on your local hard 
  72.                  drive or on a network shared drive.
  73.       Example 3: If you're not sure exactly where the drivers 
  74.                  are, choose the "Browse..." button and find them.
  75.  
  76. The "Select Device" dialog box will appear. Select the adapter 
  77. that corresponds to the one you installed in your machine and 
  78. click OK.

  80. Windows will copy the display drivers to the proper 
  81. directories on your system.

  83. Continue choosing Close until asked to restart your machine from 
  84. the "Systems Settings Change" dialog box.
  85.  
  86. After the system has restarted, you can go back into the Display
  87. applet and select alternate screen resolutions, color depths and 
  88. related features.

  93. Known driver issues will be addressed in future updates and 
  94. made available on the Diamond website.

  99. Addresses issues with fogging effects in Diakatana.

  107. 6. Known Limitations 
  108. =================================================================
  109. The 3D page of ICT may not be visible or may exhibit problems 
  110. for users of Windows 95 if a Common Controls Library file    
  111. Comctl32.dll is back-level or not installed on their system.     
  112. WORKAROUND: An updated version of this dll can be installed   
  113. from a self-extracting executeable (50comupd.exe) which can   
  114. be downloaded from Microsoft's webpage 
  115. http://www.microsoft.com/msdowload/ieplatform/ie/comctrlx86.asp
  116. Download the latest version, currently select the option  
  117. "Download 50comupd.exe (x86)" 0.49 MB.

  119. InControl Tools (ICT)99:
  120. InControl Tools 99 shortcuts require a system reboot to take  
  121. effect when running under Windows 98.
  122. Diamond ICT99 "Internet Sites" popup requires IE3.0 or above or 
  123. Netscape Communicator 4.51 or above.

  125. After uninstalling the Update Wizard with Windows 950a or 950b, 
  126. reboot your machine to remove Start Menu entries.
