  17. What's in the distribution?
  18. =======================================================================
  19. This distribution contains Glide, Direct3D drivers for Voodoo2
  20. Based 3D Accelerators and the Voodoo2 Control Panel Applet.
  21.  
  22. This distribution should be used by all OEM's shipping boards for
  23. the Windows 95/98 platform.  It is suggested that the files in this kit
  24. be placed on a driver CD in uncompressed (unzipped) format.

  58. Requirements

  61. - Windows 95 or Windows 98
  62. - PC with a Pentium II, Pentium Pro, Pentium or similar processor
  63. - One free PCI slot (or two free PCI slots for SLI)
  64. - 16MB of RAM or more Suggested
  65.

  67. Installation
  68. ------------
  69. The installation below can vary depending on which version of Windows
  70. is installed.  To determine the Windows 95 version click Start, 
  71. Settings, Control Panel. Double-click on the system icon. If the 
  72. Windows version is 4.00.950b, Windows 95 OEM SR2 is running.

  75. Existing Drivers Installed or PCI Multimedia Device shown in Device Mgr
  76. -----------------------------------------------------------------------
  77. 1) Start Windows and extract the drivers to a temporary directory.
  78.  
  79. 2) Open Device Manager (Start, Settings, Control Panel, System)
  80.  
  81. 3) Locate the existing reference to the card it will be listed as:
  82.  
  83.        Reference Card: Other Devices / PCI Multimedia Device or
  84.                Sound, Video, Game Controllers / Voodoo2
  85.  
  86.    NOTE: In an SLI configiration (2 Voodoo2 cards) you only need to
  87.    select one card to update.
  88.  
  89. 4) Double Click on the card, then click the driver Tab
  90.  
  91.      Windows 95 Standard Release users: Click "Change Driver" and choose
  92.                                         "Have Disk"
  93.               Windows 95 OEM SR2 users: Click "Update Driver" then click
  94.                                         the Next Button.  Click "Other
  95.                                         Locations" 
  96.                       Windows 98 users: Click "Update Driver" then click
  97.                                         the Next Button twice on the
  98.                                         Detection Dialog Box. Ensure that
  99.                                         "Specify a Location" is checked and
  100.                                         "Microsoft Windows Update" is not
  101.                                         checked. Click Browse to continue.
  102.  
  103. 5) Point the driver location to where the files are extracted to and click
  104.    OK.  
  105.  
  106.      Windows Standard Release 95 users: Select "Voodoo2 3D Accelerator" 
  107.                                         from the List and click OK.
  108.                                         Click OK again to save changes in
  109.                                         Device Manager.
  110.               Windows 95 OEM SR2 Users: Click on Finish to continue.
  111.                       Windows 98 users: Click on Next to continue.

  113. 6) You MAY then be prompted to insert the "Voodoo2 Drivers for Windows 9X"
  114.    Disk.  Again, point to the path you extracted the files to and press OK.
  115.  
  116. 7) Windows will copy the drivers. Reboot the system when prompted
  117.  
  118. 8) Install DirectX 5.0 or higher.  (If not already installed)

  122. No Current Drivers Installed (Single Board and SLI)
  123. ---------------------------------------------------

  125. Single Board
  126. ============

  128. 1) Start Windows and extract the drivers to a temporary directory.
  129.  
  130. 2) Shutdown Windows, Power off the system and install your Voodoo2
  131.    3D board into a PCI slot. 
  132.  
  133. 3) Restart Windows after hardware installation.
  134.  
  135. 4) Windows will detect a "PCI Multimedia Device", you need to:
  136.  
  137.      Windows 95 Standard Release users: Select "Use Driver from Mfr"
  138.                                         and click OK
  139.               Windows 95 OEM SR2 users: Click the Next Button on the
  140.                                         Detection Dialog Box. Then click
  141.                                         "Other Locations"
  142.                       Windows 98 users: Click the Next Button twice on the
  143.                                         Detection Dialog Box. Ensure that
  144.                                         "Specify a Location" is checked and
  145.                                         "Microsoft Windows Update" is not
  146.                                         checked. Click Browse to continue.
  147.  
  148. 5) Point the driver location to where the files are extracted to and click
  149.    OK.  (Windows 98: You will need to click on Next to continue)
  150.  
  151. 6) You MAY then be prompted to insert the "Voodoo2 Drivers for Windows 9X"
  152.    Disk.  Enter the path the drivers are extracted to and press OK.

  154. 7) Windows will copy the drivers. Reboot the system when prompted
  155.  
  156. 8) Install DirectX 5.0 or higher.  (If not already installed)

  159. SLI (Two Voodoo2 Boards with SLI cable)
  160. =======================================
  161.  
  162. 1) Start Windows and extract the drivers to a temporary directory.
  163.  
  164. 2) Shutdown Windows, Power off the system and install your Voodoo2
  165.    3D boards into PCI slots next to each other
  166.  
  167. 3) Connect the SLI cable to both boards.
  168.  
  169. 4) Restart the system and Windows after hardware installation.
  170.  
  171. 5) Windows will detect a "PCI Multimedia Device", you need to:
  172.  
  173.      Windows 95 Standard Release users: Select "Use Driver from Mfr"
  174.                                         and click OK
  175.               Windows 95 OEM SR2 users: Click the Next Button on the
  176.                                         Detection Dialog Box. Then click
  177.                                         "Other Locations"
  178.                       Windows 98 users: Click the Next Button twice on the
  179.                                         Detection Dialog Box. Ensure that
  180.                                         "Specify a Location" is checked and
  181.                                         "Microsoft Windows Update" is not
  182.                                         checked. Click Browse to continue.

  184. 6) Point the driver location to where the files are extracted to and click
  185.    OK.  (Windows 98: You will need to click on Next to continue)

  187. 7) You MAY then be prompted to insert the "Voodoo2 Drivers for Windows 9X"
  188.    Disk.  Enter the path the drivers are extracted to and press OK.

  190. 8) Windows will copy the drivers. When prompted to reboot the system, 
  191.    click No. You may be asked to reboot several more times. Manually 
  192.    restart the system by clicking Start, Shutdown and Restart.

  194. 9) Install DirectX 5.0 or higher.  (If not already installed)

  198. Troubleshooting
  199. ---------------

  203. Problem: After installing this driver, the Control panel applet I had
  204. for a Voodoo Graphics card is gone.
  205.  
  206. Resolution: The Voodoo2 drivers will uninstall *ANY* Voodoo Graphics 
  207. drivers.  This is to ensure only Voodoo2 drivers are on the system.
