  111. Installation
  112. ------------
  113.  
  114. - The Rainbow Runner software installation program stops if you don't have a 
  115.   Rainbow Runner add-on card properly installed in your computer, or if 
  116.   recent MGA display drivers aren't installed.
  117.  
  118. - If you see a message indicating that ActiveMovie cannot be installed, 
  119.   it may be because ActiveMovie is already installed on your computer. 
  120.   If you see this message, click "OK" and continue the Rainbow Runner 
  121.   installation.
  122.  
  123. - You can uninstall Rainbow Runner software using the uninstall program in 
  124.   the Matrox Rainbow Runner program group. You should restart your computer 
  125.   immediately after you run the uninstall program.
  126.  
  127.  
  128. Notes, Problems, and Limitations
  129. --------------------------------
  130.  
  131. - There are maximum video window sizes for viewing video files recorded 
  132.   with Rainbow Runner (MJPEG-encoded AVI files) and live video ("TV" or
  133.   "LINE" input). These maximum video window sizes depend on your display 
  134.   settings and graphics card. For more information, see the "Display 
  135.   information" section of your Rainbow Runner Studio manual. 
  136.  
  137. - Using a full-screen DOS window or changing display settings (resolution or 
  138.   color palette) may cause problems if, at the same time, you're playing back 
  139.   or recording a video file, or using the Closed Captioning feature.
  140.  
  141. - Suspend mode is not supported when using the Rainbow Runner software or 
  142.   when using any of the TV Out modes.
  143.  
  144. - When you drag-and-drop video files onto the PC-VCR Remote icon, long file 
  145.   names are converted to the old 8.3 DOS-naming style in the PC-VCR Remote 
  146.   menu window and on video window title bar.
  147.  
  148. - Capturing video to a file while outputting video to your TV may cause 
  149.   "jittering" in your computer monitor display if your video source 
  150.   (video input line or TV signal) is unstable.
  151.  
  152. - If Microsoft Media Player does not respond, try clicking on the 
  153.   Windows desktop background, then clicking on Media Player - this may 
  154.   restore control.
  155.  
  156. - Only one program at a time can use Rainbow Runner hardware. Before 
  157.   starting a video program, close any other video program that may be 
  158.   running.
  159.  
  160. - Because of a limitation in Microsoft Video for Windows, video files 
  161.   you capture are limited to a 2 GB size.
  162.  
  163. - With a Matrox Millennium II graphics card, TV out mode is supported only 
  164.   with a 16-bit color palette. (Note that many games support only an 8-bit 
  165.   color palette. If you're using a Millennium II graphics card, these games 
  166.   can't be viewed on a TV.) 
  167.  
  168. - With a Matrox Millennium II graphics card, only live video playback ("TV" or
  169.   "LINE" input) is supported in a video window if you're using a 32-bit color 
  170.   palette. For more information, see the "Display information" section of your
  171.   Rainbow Runner Studio manual.
  172.  
  173. - With a Matrox Millennium II graphics card, TV output in full-screen 
  174.   VGA/DOS display modes are not supported.
  175.  
  176. - With a Matrox Millennium II graphics card, placing a window over a video
  177.   window may cause the video window to go to black. (The video continues 
  178.   to play, but it's not displayed in the video window.) This happens at 
  179.   the following display settings:
  180.

  184.      24/32-bits             1024 x 768 and higher
  185.  
  186.   The video plays normally when you remove all windows overlapping the 
  187.   video window, or move the video window in front of all other windows. 
  188.   To avoid having any window overlap the video window, right-click the 
  189.   video window, then click "Always on Top".
  190.  
  191. - When the "Use dual-fields in full-screen mode" feature is active in
  192.   PC-VCR Remote (see its context-sensitive Help), placing any window over 
  193.   the full-screen video window causes the video window to go black. (The 
  194.   video continues to play, but it's not displayed in the video window.) 
  195.   The video plays normally when you remove all windows overlapping the 
  196.   video window.
  197.  
  198. - The Matrox Vidcap driver is designed to work only with 32-bit programs
  199.   (programs designed for Windows 95/98 and Windows NT). You can't use 16-bit 
  200.   programs (programs designed for Windows 3.1) with Rainbow Runner.
  201.  
  202. - For PC-VCR Remote video snapshots, only the portion of the video 
  203.   window that is inside your Windows desktop area is saved.
  204.  
  205. - If you experience problems using Adobe Premiere (for example, the program
  206.   stops unexpectedly), try creating or editing a text-only file named 
  207.   "Prem50.ini" in your Premiere folder. (You can use the Notepad program to 
  208.   edit or save this file.) "Prem50.ini" should contain the following lines:
  209.

  212.  
  213.   [codec]
  214.   keepopen=dmb1
  215.  
  216. - With sound drivers included with Windows 98 (WDM drivers), video 
  217.   files may be recorded with audio sync problems. You may notice such 
  218.   problems when you play back a video file you recorded. If you experience 
  219.   such problems, try installing the driver that came with your computer sound
  220.   device or get a driver update from your sound device manufacturer. For more 
  221.   information, see the documentation for your sound device.
  222.  
  223.   To change your sound device driver:
  224.  
  225.   (1) Right-click the "My Computer" icon on your Windows desktop background,
  226.       then click "Properties" -> "Device Manager".
  227.  
  228.   (2) Double-click the "Sound, video and game controllers" item to display a 
  229.       list of drivers.
  230.  
  231.   (3) Double-click the name of your sound device. then click "Driver" -> 
  232.       "Update Driver" -> "Next" -> "Display a list of all drivers..." -> 
  233.       "Next" -> "Have Disk". 
  234.  
  235.   (4) Type or browse to the path of the INF file for your sound drivers, then 
  236.       click "OK" -> "Next" -> "Finish". (Windows may warn you that you're 
  237.       installing a driver older than the current one. If so, continue with 
  238.       the installation.) 
  239.  
  240.   (5) Click "Yes" to restart your computer.
  241.  
  242.   (6) Repeat steps 1-6 for each sound device in your computer. 
  243.  
  244.  
  245. - Ensoniq Sound Cards (certain models): Some Ensoniq sound card (for example 
  246.   the SoundScape Vivo 90) will lose audio when seeking or stopping and 
  247.   restarting any video file. This happens when double clicking on a file or 
  248.   using Active Movie through MediaPlayer. To avoid this problem, use the 
  249.   PC-VCR Remote to view your video files.
  250.  
  251. - ESS Sound chips (certain models): Some sound card equiped with the ESS 
  252.   audio chip (for example the ESS 1878 found on laptops) may experience a 
  253.   loss of audio-video synchronisation when playing back video files. Video 
  254.   will be late compared to audio whenever pausing and restarting the playback.
  255.   To correct this problem, click on the PC-VCR Remote's Playback Status Bar 
  256.   to jump to a particular area in the file.
  257.  
  258. - With the Microsoft NetMeeting program, use "preview" mode. Netmeeting 
  259.   doesn't support "overlay" mode for Rainbow Runner. For more information 
  260.   on preview mode, see the Rainbow Runner Studio manual.
  261.  
  262. - Using TV output, you can't run games in fit-to-screen mode. When 
  263.   outputting games to TV, overscan mode will be used by default.
  264.  
  265. - You will encounter problems using Adobe After Effects with Matrox MJPEG 
  266.   compression. To avoid any problems, create video files using the 
  267.   "RGB uncompressed" setting. To compress your RGB video files, insert them 
  268.   into Ulead MediaStudio Video Editor, then create a video file using the 
  269.   "Matrox MJPEG" setting.
  270.
