  20. This product includes Windows NT drivers for the Matrox Rainbow Runner
  21. Studio add-on card, and the Matrox PC-VCR Remote program for Windows NT,
  22. which lets you quickly access Rainbow Runner features.

  50. Installation

  53. - The Rainbow Runner software installation program stops if you don't have a
  54.   Rainbow Runner add-on card properly installed in your computer, or if MGA NT 
  55.   display drivers version 3.40.089 or greater are not already installed on 
  56.   your system.
  57.  
  58. - If you see a message indicating that ActiveMovie cannot be installed,
  59.   it may be because ActiveMovie is already installed on your computer.
  60.   If you see this message, click "OK" and continue the Rainbow Runner
  61.   installation.
  62.  
  63. - You can uninstall Rainbow Runner software using the uninstall program in
  64.   the Matrox Rainbow Runner program group. You should restart your computer
  65.   immediately after you run the uninstall program.
  66.  
  67. - If you boot up in VGA, verify that the graphics board is in a Primary PCI
  68.   slot. The display driver will not initialize in to a high-resolution mode 
  69.   (the display will remain in VGA) if the graphics card is not in a primary PCI 
  70.   slot.

  72. - To get best performance from Microsoft Netmeeting, install the Rainbow Runner
  73.   software after installing Microsoft Netmeeting. If Rainbow Runner software was 
  74.   installed before you installed Microsoft Netmeeting, reinstall Rainbow 
  75.   Runner software.

  77. - Multiple CPU systems are not supported. The Rainbow Runner software will not 
  78.   install or run on multiple CPU systems.

  81. Notes, Problems, and Limitations
  82. --------------------------------
  83.  
  84. - There are maximum video window sizes for live video ("TV" or "LINE" input).  
  85.   These maximum video window sizes depend on your display settings and graphics card.  
  86.   For more information, see the "Display information" section of your Rainbow 
  87.   Runner Studio manual.
  88.  
  89. - Problems may occur if you change display settings (resolution or color
  90.   palette) or switch to full-screen DOS while running video programs
  91.   (programs that capture, play back or edit video).
  92.  
  93. - Changing display settings while PC-VCR Remote is open is only supported using 
  94.   MGA Display Properties or MGA QuickDesk, while viewing live video or TV; however, 
  95.   the video window may stop updating.  To restore it, click on the window.  
  96.   Problems may occur if applications switch resolutions while Rainbow Runner 
  97.   drivers are in use.
  98.  
  99. - There is no support for MJPEG recording or playback under NT, only RGB recording 
  100.   is supported.
  101.  
  102. - Multiple Rainbow Runner boards in one system is not supported.  Systems with
  103.   one Rainbow Runner board and multiple Mystique or Millennium II boards are
  104.   supported.  The Rainbow Runner board has to be on the primary display card. 
  105.   Live video, TV or hardware MPEG video will only be shown on the primary display; 
  106.   problems will occur if the video window is dragged onto another display monitor.

  108. - Suspend mode is not supported when using the Rainbow Runner software or
  109.   when using any of the TV Out modes.
  110.  
  111. - When you drag-and-drop video files onto the PC-VCR Remote icon, long file
  112.   names are converted to the old 8.3 DOS-naming style in the PC-VCR Remote
  113.   menu window and on video window title bar.
  114.  
  115. - If Microsoft Media Player does not respond, try clicking on the
  116.   Windows desktop background, then clicking on Media Player - this may
  117.   restore control.
  118.  
  119. - Only one program at a time can use Rainbow Runner hardware. Before
  120.   starting a video program, close any other video program that may be
  121.   running.
  122.  
  123. - Because of a limitation in Microsoft Video for Windows, video files
  124.   you capture are limited to a 2 GB size.
  125.  
  126. - With a Matrox Millennium II graphics card, TV out mode is supported only
  127.   with a 16-bit color palette. (Note that many games support only an 8-bit
  128.   color palette. If you're using a Millennium II graphics card, these games
  129.   can't be viewed on a TV.)
  130.  
  131. - With a Matrox Millennium II graphics card, TV output in full-screen
  132.   VGA/DOS display modes are not supported.
  133.  
  134. - With a Matrox Millennium II graphics card, placing a window over a video
  135.   window may cause the video window to go to black. (The video continues
  136.   to play, but it's not displayed in the video window.) This happens at
  137.   the following display settings:

  145.   The video plays normally when you remove all windows overlapping the
  146.   video window, or move the video window in front of all other windows.
  147.  
  148. - When the "Use dual-fields in full-screen mode" feature is active in
  149.   PC-VCR Remote (see its context-sensitive Help), placing any window over
  150.   the full-screen video window causes the video window to go black. (The
  151.   video continues to play, but it's not displayed in the video window.)
  152.   The video plays normally when you remove all windows overlapping the
  153.   video window.
  154.  
  155. - For PC-VCR Remote video snapshots, only the portion of the video
  156.   window that is inside your Windows desktop area is saved.
  157.  
  158. - Ensoniq Sound Cards (certain models): Some Ensoniq sound card, for example
  159.   the SoundScape Vivo 90, will lose audio when seeking or stopping and
  160.   restarting any video file. This happens when double clicking on a file or
  161.   using Active Movie through MediaPlayer. To avoid this problem, use the
  162.   PC-VCR Remote to view your video files.
  163.  
  164. - ESS Sound chips (certain models): Some sound card equipped with the ESS
  165.   audio chip, for example the ESS 1878 found on laptops, may experience a
  166.   loss of audio-video synchronization when playing back video files. Video
  167.   will be late compared to audio whenever pausing and restarting the playback.
  168.   To correct this problem, click on the PC-VCR Remote's Playback Status Bar
  169.   to jump to a particular area in the file.
  170.  
  171. - With the Microsoft NetMeeting program, use "preview" mode. Netmeeting
  172.   doesn't support "overlay" mode for Rainbow Runner. For more information
  173.   on preview mode, see the Rainbow Runner Studio manual.
  174.  
  175. - DOS windows may conflict with the video window.  The video may stop or be
  176.   captured by the DOS window.  To restart the video, click on any window other
  177.   than the DOS window.  To avoid the video being captured by the DOS window, do
  178.   not overlap the windows.  To remove the captured video from the DOS window,
  179.   temporarily move the portion of the window with captured video off the
  180.   screen.

  182. - Due to a limitation in Microsoft Video for Windows on NT, there are a maximum
  183.   number of frames (accumulative) one can capture when using RGB recording. 
  184.   The maximum number of video frames you can record depends on your workstation's 
  185.   amount of RAM and CPU speed. When you reach the limit, you will receive the 
  186.   message -- "Error: cannot write to capture file. Data rate too high or disk full."
  187.   even if the disk is not full. When this happens, please exit the application and 
  188.   restart it. For applications supporting the preallocation of the capture file, 
  189.   you can overcome this limitation by preallocating the file before recording.
  190.  
  191. - For RGB recording, the number of video buffers accepted by the driver is limited 
  192.   to 35. If you are over this limit, you will get the message "Error: Out of memory 
  193.   for video buffers."  This happens only in applications that allow you to adjust 
  194.   the number of video buffers.  If this happens, exit the application, restart it, 
  195.   and adjust the video buffer parameter.

  197. - Must close video capture programs prior to logging off of your NT session.
