  75. Installation
  76. ============

  78. - The software setup program stops if you don't have a Matrox Marvel or
  79.   Rainbow Runner G-Series card properly installed in your computer, or if 
  80.   recent Matrox display drivers aren't installed.
  81.  
  82. - If you see a message indicating that DirectX Media can't be installed, 
  83.   it may be because DirectX Media is already installed on your computer. 
  84.   If you see this message, click "OK" and continue the software 
  85.   installation.

  87. - To remove Matrox video software, click "Start" -> "Settings" -> "Control
  88.   Panel" -> "Add/Remove Programs" (double-click) -> "Matrox Video Tools" -> 
  89.   "Add/Remove".  You should restart your computer immediately after you 
  90.   remove the software.

  93. Notes, problems, and limitations
  94. ================================
  95.  
  96. - There are maximum video window sizes for viewing video files recorded 
  97.   with MJPEG and live video ("TV" or "LINE" input). These maximum video 
  98.   window sizes depend on your display settings and graphics card. For more 
  99.   information, see the "Display information" section of the manual for your 
  100.   Matrox video editing card.
  101.  
  102. - Using a full-screen DOS window or changing display settings (resolution or 
  103.   color palette) may cause problems if, at the same time, you're playing back 
  104.   or recording a video file, or using the Closed Captioning feature.
  105.  
  106. - Suspend mode is not supported by Matrox video software.
  107.  
  108. - When you drag-and-drop video files onto the PC-VCR Remote icon, long file 
  109.   names are converted to the old 8.3 DOS-naming style in the PC-VCR Remote 
  110.   menu window and on video window title bar.
  111.  
  112. - If Microsoft Media Player does not respond, try clicking on the 
  113.   Windows desktop background, then clicking on Media Player - this may 
  114.   restore control.
  115.  
  116. - Only one program at a time can use Matrox video editing hardware. Before 
  117.   starting a video program, close any other video program that may be 
  118.   running.
  119.  
  120. - Because of a limitation in Microsoft Video for Windows, video files 
  121.   you capture are limited to a 2 GB size.
  122.  
  123. - The Matrox VidCap driver is designed to work only with 32-bit programs
  124.   (programs designed for Windows 95/98). You can't use 16-bit programs 
  125.   (programs designed for Windows 3.1) with your Matrox video editing
  126.   hardware.
  127.  
  128. - Ensoniq Sound Cards (certain models): Some Ensoniq sound card (for example 
  129.   the SoundScape Vivo 90) will lose audio when seeking or stopping and 
  130.   restarting any video file. This happens when double clicking on a file or 
  131.   using Active Movie through MediaPlayer. To avoid this problem, use the 
  132.   PC-VCR Remote to view your video files.
  133.  
  134. - ESS Sound chips (certain models): Some sound card equiped with the ESS 
  135.   audio chip (for example the ESS 1878 found on laptops) may experience a 
  136.   loss of audio-video synchronisation when playing back video files. Video 
  137.   will be late compared to audio whenever pausing and restarting the playback.
  138.   To correct this problem, click on the PC-VCR Remote's Playback Status Bar 
  139.   to jump to a particular area in the file.
  140.  
  141. - If you don't see "Matrox MJPEG" in the list of video file encoding methods 
  142.   (codecs) available in Adobe Premiere, and Ulead MediaStudio is installed on 
  143.   your computer, try uninstalling and then reinstalling Premiere and 
  144.   MediaStudio.
  145.  
  146. - If you experience problems using Adobe Premiere (for example, the program
  147.   stops unexpectedly), try creating or editing a text-only file named 
  148.   "Prem50.ini" in your Premiere folder. (You can use the Notepad program to 
  149.   edit or save this file.) "Prem50.ini" should contain the following lines:
  150.  
  151.   [override]
  152.   NoDirectShow=1
  153.  
  154.   [codec]
  155.   keepopen=dmb1
  156.  
  157. - With sound drivers included with Windows 98 (WDM drivers), video 
  158.   files may be recorded with audio sync problems. You may notice such 
  159.   problems when you play back a video file you recorded. If you experience 
  160.   such problems, try installing the driver that came with your computer sound
  161.   device or get a driver update from your sound device manufacturer. For more 
  162.   information, see the documentation for your sound device.

  164.   To change your sound device driver:
  165.  
  166.   (1) Right-click the "My Computer" icon on your Windows desktop background,
  167.       then click "Properties" -> "Device Manager".
  168.  
  169.   (2) Double-click the "Sound, video and game controllers" item to display a 
  170.       list of drivers.
  171.  
  172.   (3) Double-click the name of your sound device. then click "Driver" -> 
  173.       "Update Driver" -> "Next" -> "Display a list of all drivers..." -> 
  174.       "Next" -> "Have Disk". 
  175.  
  176.   (4) Type or browse to the path of the INF file for your sound drivers, then 
  177.       click "OK" -> "Next" -> "Finish". (Windows may warn you that you're 
  178.       installing a driver older than the current one. If so, continue with 
  179.       the installation.) 
  180.  
  181.   (5) Click "Yes" to restart your computer.
  182.  
  183.   (6) Repeat steps 1-6 for each sound device in your computer. 
  184.     
  185. - If your video file playback appears jerky, your hard disk may be too slow.
  186.   If your hard disk and your version of Windows supports DMA (Direct Memory
  187.   Access), you can enable this feature to speed up your hard disk and possibly
  188.   give less jerky video. For more information, see "Troubleshooting" in
  189.   your Matrox manual.
  190.  
  191. - When recording more than 2 GB of video with the Matrox PC-VCR Remote 
  192.   program, there may be a small gap between video files. The amount of 
  193.   video missing depends on the performance of your system.
  194.  
  195. - If you're using a video editing program that lets you select a field
  196.   order for video editing, select field B (the second field). If you use 
  197.   field order A, you may notice problems with transitions between clips or
  198.   special effects. For more information, see the documentation for your
  199.   video editing program.
