  21. This guide contains the information you need to install our
  22. Windows 95/98 drivers and tools for your Hercules product.

  26. This driver version requires DirectX 6 for proper operation! Please install
  27. DirectX 6 before using this release. If you are installing this driver release
  28. from the Hercules driver CD, DirectX 6 will automatically be installed with the
  29. Typical installation option. If you downloaded this software release, you may
  30. obtain DirectX 6 from Microsoft's web site at

  37. If You're Updating From An Earlier Release
  38. ==========================================

  40. If you already have an earlier version of our Power Drive<tm>
  41. Windows 95/98 driver installed, you should run the UnInstall
  42. program located in the Hercules PowerTools program group
  43. before continuing.  Doing this removes the previous release
  44. of software from your hard drive, as well as all old
  45. references to the drivers and utilities in your configuration
  46. files.  The UnInstall program will also change your display
  47. driver back to the standard VGA driver.  After running the
  48. UnInstall program, restart your computer.

  51. Installation
  52. ============
  53.  
  54. To install this release, double-click the self-extracting installation program.
  55. It will automatically decompress the driver and utility files and start the
  56. installation process for you. Follow the onscreen prompts to install the drivers
  57. and/or utilities. When prompted, restart your computer to complete installation.

  60. What's New In This Release
  61. ==========================
  62.  
  63. 1. Fixed several issues with 3D screen savers with APM/ACPI power management.
  64.  
  65. 2. Fixed gameplay issues with Dark Omen, Warbirds, Monster Truck Madness 2, 
  66.    Blood 2, Redline Racer, Tomb Raider 3, Myth 2, and others.
  67.  
  68. 3. Prevented possible corruption when restoring full-screen DOS session to a
  69.    window with TV-out.
  70.  
  71. 4. Internet Explorer corruption when opening .gif in 32bpp corrected.

  74. Known Limitations
  75. =================
  76.  
  77. 1. Motorhead does not display the driver names above the cars at the start of the race.
  78.    This is due to Motorhead's use of ZBias when drawing the nameplates. The Savage 3D
  79.    does not support ZBias and informs the application of such by not returning the 
  80.    ZBIAS Caps bit (D3DPRASTERCAPS_ZBIAS).

  82. 2. Results in the Final Reality Bus Transfer tests are lower than other AGP cards.
  83.    This is due to the tiling scheme the Savage 3D chip employs when writing to the
  84.    frame buffer and is expected behavior. 
  85.  
  86. 3. Video on Flight Unlimited 2 opening screen is corrupt. This is due to an issue
  87.    with Active Movie.
  88.  
  89. 4. In order to use 100Hz and 120Hz refresh rates in Windows 9x, you must install
  90.    Terminator BEAST BIOS version K3D or later. The latest BIOS may be downloaded
  91.    from http://www.hercules.com/support/drivers/term/tbeast/.

  93. 5. For best results with Quake 3 Arena, we recommend installing the drivers included
  94.    with GLSetup. These may be downloaded from http://www.quake3arena.com/. More infor-
  95.    mation on GLSetup is at http://www.glsetup.com/. A new Hercules driver set that is
  96.    more compatible with Quake 3 Arena will be released in the near future.
