  46. 1.      Overview
  47.  
  48.         This disk contains the ELSA Display Driver for
  49.         Microsoft Windows 95/98.
  50.  
  51.         The drivers support 256, 32768 and 16 Million colors in all
  52.         resolutions available on used ELSA graphics board. Microsoft
  53.         DirectX is supported by an integrated DirectDraw/Direct3D HAL.

  60.         In case you install from CD the drivers directory contains the 
  61.         following files, otherwise the W2Offc9x.EXE provides all modules 
  62.         needed :

  73.         In case of trouble during or after installation, please make
  74.         sure you have all the files mentioned above!

  79. 3.      Installation
  80.  
  81. 3.1     Installing ELSA graphics board for Windows 95/98
  82.  
  83.         Remove your "old" VGA and put the ELSA graphics board into your
  84.         computer. 
  85.         On startup Windows 95/98 detects the ELSA graphics board as
  86.         "PCI standard VGA adapter" and prompts for a manufacturer disk. 
  87.         Advanced users can now install as described in 3.3, Microsoft WHQL
  88.         confirm way to install.
  89.         If you prefer an easy way to install the driver or the driver is 
  90.         downloaded as EXE from the web you should first confirm Windows 
  91.         request to install a "PCI Standard VGA adapter". Later you can 
  92.         start the EXE or install by WINNERware CD.
  93.  
  94. 3.2     Installation from WINNERware CD
  95.  
  96.         During a running Windows 95/98 session insert the WINNERware CD
  97.         into your CD-ROM. Normally after the CD is read, a setup is 
  98.         started and guides through installation. In case 'Auto Insert 
  99.         Notification' is disabled in your system, the setup has to be
  100.         started manually by double clicking its icon in the root of CD.
  101.         Now you can choose the components to be installed. After 
  102.         rebooting the system your monitor is recognized and installed. 
  103.         A resolution and color depth can be chosen now.
  104.  
  105. 3.3     Installing downloaded driver packages
  106.  
  107.         Driver packages from the web are self-extracting EXEs. The files
  108.         are temporary copied to e.g. c:\elsainst directory and an 
  109.         automatic driver setup is started. Tools are installed, too.
  110.         After finishing the setup or canceling the procedure the 
  111.         extracted installation files are deleted, including the 
  112.         temporary created folder.
  113.  
  114. 3.4     Microsoft WHQL confirm way to install
  115.  
  116.         After Windows recognized the ELSA graphics adapter choose
  117.         'Have Disk...'. If you are updating the driver manually, select
  118.         'change...' in the advanced settings of the diplay properties.
  119.         Now browse through the ELSA CD and select the proper display 
  120.         driver subdirectory (e.g. GLORIA\SYNERGY\WIN9X\STANDARD).Windows
  121.         will copy the driver files and prompt you to reboot the computer.
  122.         After restarting, Windows is running with the ELSA display 
  123.         drivers active. If your ELSA graphics adapter is not the primary 
  124.         display adapter in Windows 98, you have to activate the hardware
  125.         by clicking on the connected monitor bitmap in the global windows
  126.         display settings.

  128. 3.5     Installation extension
  129.  
  130.         The drivers installation routine will additionally create the 
  131.         ELSA Settings and ELSA 3D Settings property pages (if available)
  132.         and install an OpenGL ICD. 
  133.         The drivers setup included in self-extracting driver packages
  134.         or the WINNERware CD will install additional tools like WINman
  135.         Suite and ELSAinfo. In case your graphics adapter is provided
  136.         with video I/O capabilities, the setup will install the software
  137.         components for these devices, too.

  157. 5.      Known Bugs and Operating Notes
  158.  
  159.         This section documents known anomalies or problems and gives
  160.         hints on work arounds.

  162. 5.1     Version 4.11.01.0301-0002
  163.  
  164. 5.1.1   Changing color depth with QuickRes
  165.  
  166.         If QuickRes changes the color depth without restarting Windows,
  167.         sometime you can see drawing errors. QuickRes patches (!) the
  168.         display driver, so the driver can no longer work properly.
  169.  
  170. 5.1.2   Display errors with DirectX
  171.  
  172.         Applications using DirectX could cause display errors when
  173.         DirectX version I or II is installed. Please install DirectX
  174.         version 6.1 to solve this problems. You will find this version
  175.         of DirectX on the WINNERware CD in the directory
  176.         MSAPPS\DIRECTX6
  177.  
  178. 5.1.3   Display errors in applications
  179.  
  180.         Grand Touring shows display errors, parts of the cars are
  181.         missing.
  182.  
  183.         WinTV or ELSAvision crash, when overlay display is used.
  184.  
  185.         Anti-Aliasing isn't supported yet. It will be implemented 
  186.         later.
  187.  
  188.         In 1600x1200x32bpp resolution there may be pixel errors, when
  189.         the refresh rate is set to 72 or 73 HZ.
  190.  
  191.         OpenGL games mustn't be played in a window, only at fullscreen.
  192.  
  193.         Some DOS-screenmodes appear corrupted in Windows. Use real DOS
  194.         for applications. It will be fixed in upcoming releases.

  198.         In Windows 98 any combinations of WINNER II and S3-based 
  199.         adapters with Microsoft drivers are supported.
