  45.         This file explains how to setup and to configure the ELSA
  46.         Windows NT driver software for your graphics board.

  58.         The directory with the ELSA graphics driver for Windows NT
  59.         contains the following files:

  88.  
  89.         NOTE: This driver was designed for full functionality under
  90.               Windows NT 4.0 only!
  91.  
  92.         It is possible to install the driver on three different 
  93.         ways: 
  94.  
  95.         - Using the dialog "Display Properties"               (3.1)
  96.         - If installing Windows NT                            (3.2)
  97.         - Using the selfinstalling Setup.exe                  (3.3)

  99.  
  100. 3.1     Installation of the ELSA graphics driver
  101.  
  102.         NOTE: First install the Standard-VGA driver, then shut down
  103.               your computer and exchange the graphics board with
  104.               the ERAZOR III.
  105.  
  106.         In the Taskbar/Start/Settings, click on "Control Panel" and
  107.         then select "Display Properties". Alternatively, you can
  108.         right-click the desktop and in the appearing popup menu,
  109.         select "Properties". Select "Settings" and then "Display
  110.         Type". In the upcoming window you can use the "Change"
  111.         button to select your ELSA graphics board. You will get the
  112.         "Change Display" dialog box with a variety of available
  113.         drivers.

  115.         On the lower right-hand of the dialog box select the button
  116.         "Other...". The dialog "Install from disk" appears with an
  117.         indication of path or floppy drive ("A:\"). Change the
  118.         entry to the path where the driver files for your board are
  119.         located (e.g."D:\Erazor3\WINNT40\i386") and confirm with
  120.         "Continue". Now a list of ELSA graphics drivers is
  121.         displayed. Select the driver for your board. Confirm the
  122.         dialog. The driver is installed after confirming the
  123.         warning that a third-party driver will be installed.
  124.  
  125.         NOTE: Under Windows NT 4.0, graphics drivers cannot be
  126.               loaded dynamically. This is a limitation of the
  127.               operating system.
  128.  
  129.         To activate the ELSA driver the computer has to be
  130.         restarted. Please press >>Yes<< in the relevant dialog.
  131.         The system will reboot and the initial installation is
  132.         finished.
  133.  
  134.         The initial installation of ELSA drivers for Microsoft
  135.         Windows NT 4.0 installs the driver in a resolution of
  136.         640*480 pixel at 60Hz refresh.
  137.  
  138.         NOTE:   With the installation of the Windows NT 4.0 driver,
  139.                 the ELSA OpenGL driver is automatically installed.
  140.  
  141. 3.2     Making Installation Disks
  142.  
  143.         To create installation disks for the ELSA graphics driver
  144.         you will need an empty floppy disk labeled 
  145.         "ELSA Windows NT 4.0 DISK 1".
  146.         Copy the files from the according graphics board directory
  147.         on the driver CD-ROM to the prepared disk.
  148.                 
  149. 3.3     Automatically installation procedure using Setup.exe
  150.         
  151.         You have to select the graphicsadapterｴs driver location 
  152.         and start the Setup.exe. Please answer all the questions 
  153.         made by this tool and restart Windows NT after this 
  154.         procedure to activate the driver.

  158. 3.4     Testing the Installation and Determining the Driver Version
  159.         Number

  161. 3.4.1   Testing the Installation
  162.  
  163.         From the Start menu, select "Settings" and in the Control
  164.         Panel launch "Display". Select the tab "Settings" and then
  165.         the button "Change configuration...". The following dialog
  166.         gives information about the manufacturer, the version
  167.         number and the current driver files.
  168.  
  169.         NOTE:   If you see "Version Information missing ", you did
  170.                 not set US English as the system language. This
  171.                 problem will appear in all non-American NT
  172.                 installations. This is a limitation of the
  173.                 operating system.

  178. 4       Known Problems
  179.  
  180.  
  181.         - If you do not have installed the Service Pack 3
  182.           (or higher) for NT4, AGP display cards only run in
  183.           standard VGA mode. Please install a service pack 3 or 
  184.           higher to fix this problem!
  185.           
  186.           To use the new instructionset features of Pentium III pro-
  187.           cessors it is recommended to install the Windows NT service
  188.           Pack no. 5 or newer.
  189.  
  190.         - If you own a multi processor board with BX- GX-
  191.           or newer chipset you have to install the Service 
  192.           Pack 4. Otherwise the system will not work correctly.
  193.           You will find both service packs on this WINERWare CD.   
  194.  
  195.         - The display driver is installed successfully, but after
  196.           rebooting the system the driver is not activated.
  197.           Your graphics board requires an IRQ. Please assign a 
  198.           unique IRQ to the slot which is related to your graphics
  199.           board. Information about how to do this you will find
  200.           in the manual, delivered with your systems mainboard.
  201.       
  202.         - Video playback may result in pixel errors. 
  203.           Please install the Intel Indeo 5 video codec.
  204.  
  205.         - If the ELSA PCI graphics board is not recognized, try 
  206.           another PCI slot. Some mainboards have PCI slots 
  207.           which are not PCI compliant.
  208.  
  209.         - There are some problems reported in combination with 
  210.           mainboards using ALi chipsets together with AMD K6-2 
  211.           CPUs. Please contact the manufacturer of your mainboard
  212.           to get more information about this.
