  27. 1.1 General Information
  28. -----------------------

  30.     For a complete overview of the contents of this CD, please refer to the

  34.     Read this README file and all the documentation
  35.     supplied BEFORE you continue the installation.
  36.     These documents contain useful information that will help you
  37.     complete the install procedure as quickly and easily as possible.

  39. 1.2 System preparation
  40. ======================
  41.  
  42.     Follow these steps before beginning the installation procedure:
  43.  
  44.     1) If you are upgrading the graphics card in your system, return the 
  45.     display adapter settings back to 'Standard VGA', then remove the graphics
  46.     card to be replaced from your PC.
  47.  
  48.     2) Follow the hardware installation instructions provided with your card
  49.     before beginning the software installation.
  50.     
  51.     If you plan on installing Diamond Autocad productivity tools 
  52.     (BigFocus for ACAD 13 and 3DWin ACAD 13/14), make sure that Autocad 
  53.     release 13 or higher is correctly installed first.

  55. 2. Installation
  56. ===============
  57.  
  58.     The installation procedures described below refer to the
  59.     installation from the Diamond Fire GL 1000 Pro SuperCD.
  60.  
  61.  2.1 Installation under Windows 95
  62. ==================================
  63.  
  64.     Power up your computer and start Windows95 using the standard
  65.     VGA driver.
  66.  
  67.     Select the Windows Start Menu and then 'Run'. Then enter:
  68.  
  69.     <CD drive>:START
  70.  
  71.     Note: some versions of Windows95 delivered preinstalled on the hard disk 
  72.     of your computer may detect new graphics devices if the current display
  73.     adapter was not set to "Standard VGA" when the system was delivered. 
  74.     If the Win95 Hardware Wizard detects new graphics devices, and prompts
  75.     you for the location of graphics drivers for these devices, enter:
  76.  
  77.     <CD drive>:\drivers
  78.  
  79.     and then continue with the installation. This may be required more than
  80.     once.
  81.  
  82. 2.2 Installing the Windows NT 4.0 Driver
  83. ========================================

  85.     Select the Windows Start Menu and then 'Run'. Then enter:

  92. 2.3 Choosing a Monitor
  93. ======================
  94.  
  95.     In order to make the best use of your Diamond Fire GL 1000 Pro board, 
  96.     the capabilities of graphics monitor you choose should match those
  97.     of this board.
  98.  
  99.     The monitor refresh rate can be directly selected under Windows NT
  100.     4.0 under display settings.
  101.     
  102.     To select refresh rates under Windows 95, click on
  103.     the 'Display' icon in the 'Control Panel'. Select the 'Settings'
  104.     property page, and then 'Change Display Type...' The current
  105.     Adapter Type and Monitor Type will be displayed. Choose 'Change...'
  106.     next to Monitor Type, and select the monitor type that best
  107.     matches the description of your monitor.

  111.          *** IMPORTANT ***
  112.  
  113.     Only use settings that your monitor supports. If you specify 
  114.     settings that exceed the ratings specified for your monitor, 
  115.     you may permanently damage the monitor!
  116.     If you change the monitor, first check the ratings of the new 
  117.     monitor and, if necessary, reconfigure your settings accordingly!
  118.  
  119. 3. Features and Restrictions
  120. =======================
  121.  
  122.     BIOS Updates - Your Fire GL 1000 Pro is supplied with a 'flash' BIOS
  123.     which can be reprogrammed by the user if necessary. The BIOS need not be 
  124.     reprogammed as part of a new installation. Future software releases
  125.     may require a BIOS update. Check with Diamond's online services 
  126.     for current information.
  127.  
  128.     AGP - This software release includes AGP support for Windows95 SR2.1
  129.     only. The AGP VXD provided is compatible with the Intel 440LX chipset
  130.     only. If you have a motherboard which uses a different chipset, please
  131.     contact the manufacturer for the appropriate software. AGP support
  132.     is only installed when an AGP Fire GL 1000 Pro is present in the 
  133.     machine during software installation, and the correct version of Win95
  134.     has already been installed.
  135.  
  136.     DirectX - The Windows95 drivers supplied with this software release
  137.     are compatible with DirectX5 only.
  138.     
  139.     Dual Screen - This product does not support dual screen operation
  140.     under Windows95 or NT4.0. Dualscreen Hardware Support is available
  141.     with the Fire GL 3000.
  142.     
  143.     Stereo - This software release now supports stereo shutter glasses under
  144.     NT4.0. Stereo display reserves some of the memory available on your Fire
  145.     GL 1000 Pro for additional stereo images. This limits available 3D 
  146.     accelerated resolutions 640x480 with 4MB, and 1024x768 with 8MB (16 bit).
  147.     Before using applications which support stereo, select the 'stereo'
  148.     entry in the device properties, under the 'configuration' tab.
  149.  
  150.     HexenOGL and HexenII - Add the extension "-LM_4" to the command line
  151.     shown in the properties of the shortcut in order to ensure correct texture 
  152.     display. Remove or rename the file "openGL32.dll" installed with the game.
  153.  
  154.     Animated Cursor - Software animated cursors may cause corrupted display 
  155.     when used with Direct3d windows under Windows95, and with the 1920x1080
  156.     and 1920x1280 modes under NT4.
  157.  
  158.     16 bit Z-buffer - 16 bit Z-buffer resolution is more than adequate for
  159.     most applications. Those applications that rely on Z-buffer resolutions
  160.     greater than 16 bits may not display some objects correctly. 
  161.  
  162.     3DStudio MAX 1.2/Heidi - Heidi support is provided for NT4 only. When 
  163.     using 32 bit graphics modes, textures may not be mapped to objects
  164.     correctly. 16 bit color modes operate correctly.
