  7. This is version 4.03.00.3207 of the Diamond Stealth 3D Series Windows 95 
  8. Display Drivers with InControl Tools 95 version 4.03.118.

  11. I.  Windows 95 Installation Notes
  12. ---------------------------------
  13.  
  14. A.  If Windows 95 is already installed
  15. --------------------------------------
  16.  
  17. 1. When you first install the video card in the system and power on, Windows
  18.    95 will inform you that it has discovered a new "PCI VGA-Compatible Display
  19.    Adapter" and will prompt you to install drivers for it.  At this point you
  20.    will want to select "Do not install a driver" and click "OK".
  21.  
  22. 2. Next select "Cancel" when the message box appears indicating that your
  23.    display adapter is not configured properly.  Select "Cancel" once again
  24.    when the "Display Properties" dialog comes up.
  25.  
  26. 3. Next right click on "My Computer" and select "Properties".  Then select
  27.    the "Device Manager" tab.
  28.  
  29. 4. Now within the "Device Manager" you will want to double-click "Other
  30.    devices", highlight the "PCI VGA-Compatible Display Adapter" and select
  31.    "Properties".
  32.  
  33. 5. Now select the "Driver" tab and click the "Change Driver..." button.
  34.  
  35. 6. Scroll through the "Hardware Type" list until you find "Display adapters".
  36.    Highlight this selection and click "OK".
  37.  
  38. 7. You should then be able to highlight "(Standard display types)" and select
  39.    "OK" to accept the "Standard Display Adapter(VGA)" option.
  40.  
  41. 8. Now click "OK" once again to install the "Standard Display Adapter(VGA)"
  42.    driver.
  43.  
  44. 9. When Windows 95 prompts you to restart the computer, click "Yes".
  45.  
  46. 10. Once Windows 95 restarts you will want to click the "Start" button, then
  47.     choose "Run...".
  48.  
  49. 11. Now insert the Diamond Stealth 3D Series Windows 95 Display Drivers into
  50.     the appropriate drive and within the "Run" dialog box type the following:
  51.     "x:\INSTALL" where x is the corresponding letter of the drive containing
  52.     the Diamond Stealth 3D Series Windows 95 Display Drivers.
  53.  
  54.     The following command line switches can be used with INSTALL:
  55.  
  56.         /f                      This forces a Full installation
  57.                     (Diamond Stealth 3D Series Windows 
  58.                     95 Display Driver and InControl Tools 
  59.                     95).
  60.  
  61.         /m                      This forces a Minimal installation
  62.                     (Diamond Stealth 3D Series Windows 95
  63.                     Display Driver only).
  64.  
  65.         /d"drive:\path"         This installs InControl Tools 95 into
  66.                     drive:\path. Note that the quotes, 
  67.                     drive letter and path are required.
  68.                     In addition, either the /f or /m 
  69.                     switch must be used in conjunction 
  70.                     with this selection.
  71.  
  72.         /r                      This forces a system reboot after
  73.                     installation.  Note that either the /f
  74.                     or /m switch must be used in 
  75.                     conjunction with this selection.
  76.  
  77.         /nr                     This prevents a system reboot after
  78.                     installation.  Note that either the /f
  79.                     or /m switch must be used in 
  80.                     conjunction with this selection.
  81.  
  82.         uninstall               This will completely uninstall the
  83.                     Diamond Stealth 3D Windows 95 Display
  84.                     Driver and InControl Tools 95.
  85.  
  86. 12. Once the Diamond Setup Wizard dialog box appears you will be able to 
  87.     review the Readme file or continue on with the installation by selecting
  88.     "Next".
  89.  
  90. 13. The Setup Wizard will now check for Diamond components installed in your
  91.     computer.  Click "Next" to proceed.
  92.  
  93. 14. A dialog box will appear containing the path where InControl Tools 95 will
  94.     be installed.  The default path is:
  95.  
  96.     "C:\Program Files\Diamond"
  97.  
  98.     Select "Next" or change the path as necessary.
  99.  
  100. 15. The next dialog box selects the installation type.  There are three
  101.     installation types: Minimal, Full and Custom.  They are defined as
  102.     follows:
  103.  
  104.         Minimal:        This will install only the Diamond Stealth 3D
  105.                 Series Display Driver.
  106.  
  107.         Full:           This will install both the Diamond Stealth 3D
  108.                 Series Display Driver and InControl Tools 95.
  109.  
  110.         Custom:         This will allow installation of either the
  111.                 Diamond Stealth 3D Series Display Driver or
  112.                 InControl Tools 95.  At the minimum, the 
  113.                 Diamond Stealth 3D Series Display Driver must 
  114.                 be installed during a first-time installation.
  115.  
  116. 16. If "Custom" was selected in step 15, a dialog box will appear allowing the
  117.     selection of various items.  Select the items to be installed by clicking 
  118.     on them with the left mouse button.  When finished, click "Next" to 
  119.     continue.
  120.  
  121. 17. At the "Select Files to be copied" dialog box, click "Next" to begin the
  122.     file copying process.
  123.  
  124. 18. After the files have been copied you will want to click "Finish" in order 
  125.     to complete the installation.  Note: If applicable, please remove the 
  126.     floppy diskette containing the Diamond Stealth 3D Series Display Drivers 
  127.     prior to clicking "Finish".
  128.  
  129. 19. Windows 95 will ask that the computer be restarted.  Click on "Yes" to
  130.     restart the computer.
  131.  
  132. 20. Once Windows 95 restarts, you will have successfully installed the 
  133.     software for your Diamond Stealth 3D Series.  The InControl Tools 95 
  134.     Wizard will then guide you the rest of the way.  Thank you for choosing 
  135.     Diamond!

  138. B.  Installing Windows 95 after installing the Stealth 3D
  139. ---------------------------------------------------------
  140.  
  141. 1.  If you install Windows 95 after you have installed the Stealth 3D Series,
  142.     Windows 95 will use a generic S3 driver for the Stealth 3D Series.  In 
  143.     order to install the provided Diamond Stealth 3D Series Windows 95 Display
  144.     Drivers, complete the following steps.
  145.  
  146. 2.  First right click on "My Computer" and select "Properties".  Now select 
  147.     the "Device Manager" tab.
  148.  
  149. 3.  Under "Display adapters" you will want to highlight "S3" and click 
  150.     "Remove".  Then click "OK" to confirm the device removal.
  151.  
  152. 4.  Next select "No" when Windows 95 prompts you to restart the computer.  
  153.     Note: you will want to keep the "Device Manager" open in order to proceed 
  154.     with the installation.
  155.  
  156. 5.  From this point on, you will be able to complete the installation by
  157.     continuing with Step 4 which is provided within the section above labeled:
  158.     "A. If Windows 95 is already installed".

  161. II.  Diamond Refresh Utility
  162. ----------------------------
  163.  
  164. The Diamond Refresh Utility allows you to select the refresh rate for your
  165. monitor which suits you best in addition to providing a display centering
  166. utility.  You may want to have your monitor's manual or specifications with 
  167. you while using this utility.
  168.  
  169. A.  To access the Display Centering Utility:
  170. --------------------------------------------
  171.  
  172. 1. Click your right mouse button anywhere on the Windows background.  The
  173.    Windows desktop menu will appear.
  174.  
  175. 2. Next choose "Properties" in order to bring up the "Display Properties" 
  176.    dialog box.
  177.  
  178. 3. Now select the "Refresh" tab.
  179.  
  180. 4. Move your mouse cursor to the screen area on the monitor graphic.  You 
  181.    will notice that the mouse cursor changes to a hand.
  182.  
  183. 5. Press and hold your left mouse button and move the screen graphic up, 
  184.    down or to either side.  Note that your screen is repositioned dynamically 
  185.    as you move the mouse.
  186.  
  187. 6. Release your mouse button when your screen is centered.  Note: You can also
  188.    change the screen position dynamically by simultaneously pressing your 
  189.    <Alt> key and either the left, right, up or down directional arrow keys.
  190.  
  191. 7. A confirmation message opens to let you verify the change.  Click "Yes" to
  192.    confirm the change or "No" to revert to the previous screen position.  If 
  193.    you don't make a choice, the message box is dismissed after a few seconds 
  194.    and the screen reverts to it's previous position.
  195.  
  196. B.  To access the Monitor Refresh Utility: 
  197. ------------------------------------------
  198.  
  199. 1.  Click your right mouse button anywhere on the Windows background.  The
  200.     Windows desktop menu will appear.
  201.  
  202. 2.  Next choose "Properties" in order to bring up the "Display Properties"
  203.     dialog box.
  204.  
  205. 3.  Now select the "Refresh" tab.
  206.  
  207. 4.  In the lower portion of the dialog box, open the refresh dropdown list by
  208.     clicking on the downward-pointing arrow to the right of the list viewer.
  209.     The list contains all available refresh rates for the currently selected
  210.     monitor type, viewport size and color palette.  Note that some
  211.     configurations offer only one choice.
  212.  
  213. 5.  If more than one refresh rate is available, you are provided the ability 
  214.     to select a new one.
  215.  
  216. 6.  If you select a new refresh rate, a confirmation message box opens.  If 
  217.     the new refresh rate appears stable, you can click "Yes" to confirm the
  218.     selection.  If you click "No" or wait a few seconds, the previous refresh
  219.     rate is restored.

  233. Known Limitations
  234. -----------------
  235. 1.  There are several problems that are inherent to color depth switching.     
  236.     If you experience any problems after switching color depths on the fly, 
  237.     simply restart the machine.
  238. 2.  If you experience random errors when running WinStone 97, you should
  239.     disable InControl Tools 95.  This is a known problem and is documented
  240.     in the Winstone readme files.
  241. 3.  We do not recommend using the Windows 95 version of Scitech's display
  242.     doctor.  If you experience problems remove the application and reboot.
  243.  
  244. For Cards with TV-OUT capability:
  245.  
  246. 1.  The adjustments in our page for the TV monitor have VERY subtle changes.
  247.     If you do not have the correct test pattern selected, you may not even be 
  248.     able to see a change at all.
  249. 2.  If you have a TV connected and turn it on then off, you might notice
  250.     some flickering.  To correct this problem, change the refresh rate to
  251.     "optimal" in the Refresh or Settings tab from the Display Properties
  252.     page.
