B. Installing Windows 95 after installing the Stealth 3D
---------------------------------------------------------
1. If you install Windows 95 after you have installed the Stealth 3D Series,
Windows 95 will use a generic S3 driver for the Stealth 3D Series. In
order to install the provided Diamond Stealth 3D Series Windows 95 Display
Drivers, complete the following steps.
2. First right click on "My Computer" and select "Properties". Now select
the "Device Manager" tab.
3. Under "Display adapters" you will want to highlight "S3" and click
"Remove". Then click "OK" to confirm the device removal.
4. Next select "No" when Windows 95 prompts you to restart the computer.
Note: you will want to keep the "Device Manager" open in order to proceed
with the installation.
5. From this point on, you will be able to complete the installation by
continuing with Step 4 which is provided within the section above labeled:
"A. If Windows 95 is already installed".
II. Diamond Refresh Utility
----------------------------
The Diamond Refresh Utility allows you to select the refresh rate for your
monitor which suits you best in addition to providing a display centering
utility. You may want to have your monitor's manual or specifications with
you while using this utility.
A. To access the Display Centering Utility:
--------------------------------------------
1. Click your right mouse button anywhere on the Windows background. The
Windows desktop menu will appear.
2. Next choose "Properties" in order to bring up the "Display Properties"
dialog box.
3. Now select the "Refresh" tab.
4. Move your mouse cursor to the screen area on the monitor graphic. You
will notice that the mouse cursor changes to a hand.
5. Press and hold your left mouse button and move the screen graphic up,
down or to either side. Note that your screen is repositioned dynamically
as you move the mouse.
6. Release your mouse button when your screen is centered. Note: You can also
change the screen position dynamically by simultaneously pressing your
<Alt> key and either the left, right, up or down directional arrow keys.
7. A confirmation message opens to let you verify the change. Click "Yes" to
confirm the change or "No" to revert to the previous screen position. If
you don't make a choice, the message box is dismissed after a few seconds
and the screen reverts to it's previous position.
B. To access the Monitor Refresh Utility:
------------------------------------------
1. Click your right mouse button anywhere on the Windows background. The
Windows desktop menu will appear.
2. Next choose "Properties" in order to bring up the "Display Properties"
dialog box.
3. Now select the "Refresh" tab.
4. In the lower portion of the dialog box, open the refresh dropdown list by
clicking on the downward-pointing arrow to the right of the list viewer.
The list contains all available refresh rates for the currently selected
monitor type, viewport size and color palette. Note that some
configurations offer only one choice.
5. If more than one refresh rate is available, you are provided the ability
to select a new one.
6. If you select a new refresh rate, a confirmation message box opens. If
the new refresh rate appears stable, you can click "Yes" to confirm the
selection. If you click "No" or wait a few seconds, the previous refresh
rate is restored.
Features Added
--------------
None
Problems Addressed
------------------
None
Known Limitations
-----------------
1. There are several problems that are inherent to color depth switching.
If you experience any problems after switching color depths on the fly,
simply restart the machine.
2. If you experience random errors when running WinStone 97, you should
disable InControl Tools 95. This is a known problem and is documented
in the Winstone readme files.
3. We do not recommend using the Windows 95 version of Scitech's display
doctor. If you experience problems remove the application and reboot.
For Cards with TV-OUT capability:
1. The adjustments in our page for the TV monitor have VERY subtle changes.
If you do not have the correct test pattern selected, you may not even be
able to see a change at all.
2. If you have a TV connected and turn it on then off, you might notice
some flickering. To correct this problem, change the refresh rate to
"optimal" in the Refresh or Settings tab from the Display Properties
page.
