FW2RTF.EXE (PC Version)
FW2RTF.TTP (ST Version)
1st Word(+) to Rich Text Format (RTF) File Convertor.
A SHAREWARE PROGRAM BY KEVIN MILLICAN (c)1994.
To convert a file :-
1. Atari ST - Run FW2RTF.TTP from the desktop and enter the filename of
the 1st Word File you wish to convert in the TOS-TAKES-PARAMETERS box.
Alternatively, if you are using a more recent or replacement desktop,
you may be able to just drag the file onto the FW2RTF.TTP icon.
2. PC compatibles - Type FW2RTF <filename> from the DOS prompt or drag
the 1st Word file over on to the FW2RTF.EXE file from the Windows
filemanager.
3. Both - If you do not give a valid filename, the programs enter
configuration mode. Press a number (0-9) to edit or toggle the variables
or 'R' to enter the registration key. Without a key, you are limited to
just under two pages of text.
3.1 You can alter the margins (or type '-1' if you want the program to
attempt to use the default 1st Word file margins) which are always
specified in inches.
3.2 You can also alter the RTF phrase used to match each of the four
text sizes used by the 1st Word ruler. Using these allows you to specify
a different font for each pitch e.g. to modify PICA to represent 14
point Times Roman you would enter :-
\f16 \fs28
(note there is <space> character directly after the fs28 characters.)
3.3 The left margin must be entered because 1st Word does not save this
setting with the file.
3.4 You can toggle the 'Force \plain ' option using the '9' key - some
word processors can get confused witha lot of styles flicking on and off
which can lead to peculiar attributes being used. This option creates an
additional \plain commend at the begining of each file which can help to
keep things as intended.
4. Pressing 'S' will save the current options and <ESC> will quit
without saving the changed options.
5. The first line of a FW2RTF.INF file contains the default fonts for
the target word-processor. These can be changed if desired with a text
editor.
6. Registered users of TUC can obtain a free key by sending a stamped
addressed envelope to :-
Kevin Millican
20 St Johns Road

NR31 9NS

7. Others wanting to make full use of FW2RTF are asked to send the sum
of £10 (+ postage where applicable) to this address. Please see
