Undocumented features and tips for Calamus╛S/SL
*****************************************
Calamus╛
- Although the update will contain an extra Pulldown-menu
for selecting document-windows, this is also possible
in the actual version. Open several document-windows
(maximum seven) and click the close-box at the upper
left corner of the window while pressing the <Control>-
key down. Calamus╛ will not close the document, but
toggles to the next document-window.
- We noticed that many users are not aware of the fact
that the screen-redraw can be interrupted with the key-
combination <Shift> <Control> <Alternate>. This inter-
rupts almost every calculation (except Speedline). A
(new) redraw can be forced with <ClearHome>.
*****************************************
PKS Write
- Text can be transported directly from the textframe
into the PKS Write editor. Like in 1.09N) by hitting
the <Escape>-key. Confirm the two alerts simply with
<Return>.
- Marked textblocks can be copied/moved directly from the
PKS Write editor to the clipboard-module.
- Since PKS Write is the only module that loads data
after being installed (i.e. these macro's) the memory
should be handled correctly. Therefore TOS 1.4 is the
absolute minimum, a higher version is strongly recom-
mended.
*****************************************
Vector-editor
- At this very moment this module is totally re-
programmed, with lots of new features in it. Not
documented with the current version is the possibility
to group objects. Actually this is pseudo-grouping
(real grouping will be available in the new module),
but is gives the ability to move several objects
simultaniously. Select a minimum of two objects with
the <Shift>-key and the left mouse-button. For grouping
the selection press the <Alternate>-key and klick with
the right mouse-button. Now the objects can be moved
simultaniously. Clicking once again with the right
mouse-button will ungroup the objects.
*****************************************
Pencil-module
- In the pencil-module it is possible to copy a colour or
gray-pattern by moving the cursor at least one pixel
above a colour or gray-pattern while pressing the
<Shift>-key.
*****************************************
Calamus╛ S
- With Calamus╛S there might occur problems on 68000-
computers Atari ST and Mega STE). Make sure that in the
Setup-file (*.SET) the line "LeaderTabChars" is empty
between the brackets: [ ]. This can be done with any
ASCII-texteditor.
Otherwise clicking on the hyphenation-parameters in the
text-editor (opened ruler) results in four bombs. Beside
this, it is known that more modules, such as the Toolbox,
do not perform correctly because of the Setup-file. It is
recommendable to configure a whole new Setup-file yourself
anyway.

Tip for picturesize-optimization (vector and bitmap)
Put the frame-cache OFF while importing an illustration and
interrupt it immediately with the key-combination <Shift>
<Control> <Alternate>. Then change to the submenu and
optimize the framesize for screen or printer.
*****************************************
Textformatting *IN* an object
* For Calamus╛S only possible with Paint and Draw *
1. Make a vectorframe and go to the vectormodule
2. Draw an object in the frame (a rectange for example)
3. Draw a second object into the previous object (a circle
for exemple).
4. Change the pathdirection (drehrichtung) of one of the
two objects
5. Select both object while holding the <Shift>-key down
and join the two objects (Objekte zusammenfügen)
6. Exit the vectormodule and go to the framemodule
7. You'll see an object with a hole in it
8. Make a textframe and import some text
9. Take a small fontsize
10. Justify the format (Blocksatz)
11. Place it over the vectorobject with the hole
12. Make runaround (Textumfluss)
13. Delete the vectorframe
14. Wauw
At the special textfunctions in the framemodule (submenu
questionmark) you can always recall the vectorobject. This
is treated as a virtual copy in memory. You can edit this
object in the vectormodule afterwards and put text in any
shape you like.
