As the title suggests, this is a grand
prix management game in which you take
charge of a team, and attempt to win
both the drivers and the constructors
championships. The range of features
in this one is quite impressive, and
it's obvious that a lot of time and
effort has gone into the making of
this program.
As expected from a management sim,
the graphics and sound are nothing to
write home about,(in fact the sound is
virtually non-existant), i do think
that a little more could have gone
into the graphical side of things too.
When you start the game you're asked
to pick the team you want to manage,
the better the team the less money you
get to start with. You then choose
your staff i.e. aerodynamics experts,
chassis experts,engine experts, etc...
the better the expert, the better the
car you'll end up with, then of course
you choose your 2 team drivers. As
with all the above, the best cost money
and it's no suprise that you'd have to
pay Nigel Mansell £100,000 a week to
join your team. After all,he is (was?)
the best.
Once you've done all that, it's into
the game, and the main menu. The menu
comes in the form of a gem-like drop
down menu, and what with the font and
the mouse pointer,you notice instantly
that it's written in STOS. You can now
choose to change your staff, check your
status, begin research on new parts to
improve your cars performance, look at
your finances, and the tracks you're
going to race on.
When you enter the race itself, you
choose the cars that you want your
drivers to use from a maximum of four.
You can also choose to bet as much as
£15000 on one of the drivers finishing
in the top 6, which can be handy for
that extra bit of cash, (providing you
win ). During the race you're given
constant updates on the top positions
as well as information on the well
being of your cars and their tyres.
Tyres need to be kept an eye on as
they soon deteriate. You can make a
pit-stop to change the tyres as often
as you like. The pit-stop is about the
only time that actual drawn graphics
are used. The game rules are pretty
much set out in the same way as the
actual championship and although it's
not a brilliant game, it's definately
playable, i managed to play it for a
full season without getting too bored,
so itcan't be that bad.
I'll give it 6 out of 10
