DEMO REVIEWS
[--------------
by DEF KLF & SPY 3 of Mad Vision
]- ANGST - by the Delta Force.
ANGST is a new kind of sampled music
demo from the german band DELTA FORCE.
It has been released in December 91 &
it's made by Newmode (code) & Big Alec.
The demo consists of a simple black &
white logo "ANGST" and we can hear a
very long sample of an english speaking
preacher. That's an extract from the
Belgium techno music band,Front 242.
The originality of the demo is that
you needn't many mbytes to load ANGST
because the DF's routine, loads & plays
digit music at the same time !
Nevertheless the sound quality is not
very good.Other demos from DF with this
brand-new routine should come soon.
Very hard to give marks to this demo
as it is a "minimalistic" one.
CODE : 74% For the original routine
GFX : --- Violent environment...
MUSIC : 70% Long but low quality
IDEA : 78% Never done on ST.
IMPRES : 50% Quickly boring...
OVERALL: 59% That's okay only once,if
you are not a fan of F242.
] - SPEED LIGHT - by The untouchables
]and friends... (HOTLINE-TUC-TWB...)
We would want to test objectively this
demo, but when we have seen a screen
called: "BEAM 2" we failed, because it
is simply an old intro from Mad Vision
for the Replicants. They have added a
logo,a scroller and some equalizers but
Tony B. of Untouchables has not even be
able to change the sinus table and
the colours of the rasters !!!!
CODE : 15% Is everything ripped ?
GFX : 20% Main menu ok from GOD
MUSIC : 70% Classic... Mad Max,CZ0
IDEA : 18% Lack of ideas...
IMPRES : 30% There's 2-3 screens OK
OVERALL: 23% Boring because each time
you come back to the same place in the
main menu,so you have to spend hours to
go where you want to because there is no
name with the doors. All that is shown
has already be seen on other demos...
] - THE MASSIVE ATTACK by Mad Vision
We are not going to test our show , it
would not be very fair and interesting
that is just to inform you, that it is a
demo without a main menu , but a little
bit like an Amiga show... We are quite
proud of it, even if that's not perfect
we tried to do something original , and
we hope the Massive Attack will
motivate ST bands to do shows inspite
of classic megademos because it can be
made faster so the screens are not too
old fashioned when the disk is
released...
] - THE ULTIMATE MUSIC COLLECTOR by 004
] of Mad Vision
Once again it is just to inform you ,
that we released a music disk. It was
originaly done two years ago,but we had
never spread it because of our lazyness
and our lack of motivation. That is a
bit old now, but nevertheless more than
400 muzak are on the disk, it must be a
world record...
] - IMAGINA DEMO by The Dynamic duo.
After their entertaining Superior demo
the English duo is back. But we must
admit that we waited something better
from them. Superior demo had very
original screens, a game , no main menu
and the programmers had done top work.
This time most of the screens are ugly
and boring. If the main menu is quite
good and original ( it uses cadaver gfx
with a little cyclist to choose your
demo screen ) and if a few screens are
very interesting , we could expect much
more from the Dynamic duo.
CODE : 71% menu,3d,Scrolls are OK.
GFX : 40% Often horrible.
MUSIC : 70% Classic(CZ0,MAD MAX).
IDEA : 59% A lack of ideas.
IMPRES : 70% With the neat main menu,
OVERALL: 66% you expect super screens
but most of the time you are a bit
dissapointed.Nevertheless this demo has
been coded by just two people so from
this point of view that's great work.
] - MUSIC DISK from AXXIS.
A new music disk that I forget the name
( Cody/Axxis could you send the demo to
me ! ) from a German band that released
a good bobs demo two years ago and many
amiga sound track module menus. It only
works with 1 meg. This disk is a good
surprise from Axxis and if it just
allowed to listen to music from games
and famous demos that is just splendid.
CODE : 78% 1meg permits nice effects
GFX : 69% Simple but clean.
MUSIC : 86% A lot...
IDEA : 68% The menu is original.
IMPRES : 74% Pleasant to use.
OVERALL: 68% We can't expect too much
from a music disk , but this one is one
of my favorite with its zak-titles that
get bigger when you select them.
] - JUST BUGGIN' by A.C.F. + DF + XeneX
The German band of the Alliance,is back
with a new megademo that works only
with one meg. What struck you first with
surprise watching this demo is the main
menu. That's coded by NINJA III of Delta
Force and it is simply the best main
menu never released on a megademo
( except the Wott a scortcher one that
is so original). You choose your screen
thanks to a cosmonaut, the graphics are
not ripped and are neat and various. The
animation of the main sprite is perfect
Multi-Scrolling-routine is okay too.
What also must be said is that a
musician join the band ( TAO ) and his
sound chip musics are very good. Screen
levels are irregular, some are splendid
( little show with lot of gfx ) others
are less interresting ( copy of known
screens ). Xenex guest screen is also
fabulous ( ...overscan phractals ! ).
"ACF" on the main menu allowed you to
go to the hidden screen.
CODE : 85% Overscan coding.
GFX : 80% Clean and various.
MUSIC : 99% Original soundchip Zak !
IDEA : 70% A few ideas.
IMPRES : 88% For the main menu, muzak
OVERALL: 92% and the GFX.
] - THE WORLD IN MY OYSTER - AURA
The band is a new German one. In fact
that's a new name for AXXIS. This is a
party demo there's no main menu you
have to press space bar to watch the
next screen. There are about 5 screens.
I can't say the demo is brilliant or
lame, that's okay... That's the kind of
demo you watch twice,or 3 times. We
can't expect or ask to much from a
party demo, we simply hope to see more
from AURA. People who made the demo had
fun making it, ( watch out the digits )
and that's a good thing.
] - NTM - ZUUL and lotsa guests
This demo is on 2 disks, 95 percent of
the screens are old and lame.Except the
fullscreen from Pulsion which is good
and a WONDERFUL starwar-scroll from a
Dutch band which I've forgotten the
name. The rest of the disk is rubbish.
