  1. This file fixes the map error in episode 3, map 9 (Warrens) in the
  2. registered version 1.666 of DOOM.  I saw somebody say that id would
  3. NOT release a patch to fix this, so here is one.
  4. The error occurs when you enter the courtyard area after getting the
  5. shotgun and lowering the sidewalk across the lava pool.  If you step
  6. down onto the 'grass' after lowering the sidewalk, you get dumped to
  7. DOS with the error:

  9. P_PlayerInSpecialSector:Unknown Special xxxxx
  10.  
  11. Use this file at your own risk, it modifies your DOOM.WAD file and
  12. therefore may not work with any future id Software DOOM patch files.
  13. You do have the option to "undo" the fix and restore DOOM.WAD, but I
  14. can't guarantee that will make it fully normal.

  16. All this program does is change one byte at offset 2,554,126 dec
  17. (or 26F90E hex) from "06" to "00".

  19. This program worked for me for both fixing and restoring the .WAD
  20. file.

  22. MAKE A BACKUP COPY OF DOOM.WAD BEFORE RUNNING THIS PROGRAM!
  23. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!
  24. DO NOT BLAME ME IF YOUR .WAD FILE GETS SCREWED UP SOMEHOW!
