Welcome to the world of Internet connected electronic conferencing.
I`ll bet you never knew it could be this easy! CIX (pronounced "kicks")
is the UK`s largest provider of dial-up Internet access. You can use
CIX to send or recieve E-mail from all reaches of the Internet, to
transfer files, to communicate in conferences on CIX itself (see the doom
conference in the Conference List for an example of just one of the
tens of thousands of conferences on CIX), or even throughout the world
(see the UseNet conferences alt.games.doom, alt.games.doom.announce and
alt.games.doom.newplayers), to "surf" the Internet, and much more. The
program you are currently using is called AMEOL. It`s what is known
in computer communications circles as an "off-line reader". What this
means is that AMEOL is used to access the CIX over your modem instead
of computer communications software. Normally, a user reads conferences
like the ones mentioned above while connected by modem to CIX, thus running
up their CIX bill and phone bill. AMEOL connects to CIX for you, and brings
any information (conferences, e-mail and so forth) that is waiting for
you to your own computer, and then disconnects. You read your messages
off-line, create replies off-line, and then use AMEOL again to reconnect
and upload. This allows you to connect to CIX for a shorter period of
time, making your CIX bill and phone bills that much smaller! Joining
CIX costs 25 pounds (a 1 off registration fee) and on-line (connect time)
charges of 4 pence (BT cheap time) or 6 pence (BT regular time) per
minute. There is a monthly minimum charge of 6.25 for users who pay
via direct debit or credit card, and a 15.00 monthly minimum charge for
users who pay via approved invoice. The monthly minimum isn`t added onto
any bill exceeding the minimum, but is a standing charge for any bill
lower than the minimum. The 4 pence or 6 pence a minute charge pays for
any service that you will find on CIX with the exception of the CIX Fax
gateway, and some of the up-and-coming services CIX will be providing in
the near future.
Of course, with this CD-ROM, there is an offer waiving the normal 25
pounds registration fee, so you can try out the Internet for as little
as 6.25 plus VAT in your first month.

AMEOL is a Share-ware product. Please feel free to distribute it. If
you enjoy using AMEOL once you are joined to CIX, registration costs 45
pounds. Registration of AMEOL entitles you to all future released
versions of AMEOL and also grants you access to a closed conference for
support, discussion and the exchange of AMEOL related files.
We hope that you enjoy exploring AMEOL and reading the conferences that
are on this demo. For more information about joining CIX and getting
yourself connected, please phone 081 390 8446 & request an Info-pack.
