Space Explorer is a screen saver where various planets
and space objects fly over the screen(the window of a
space ship). It provides sound effect when an object hits
the ship. It also provide a optional background music when
the saver is enabled.
What is NEW in this version: This version will allow you
to adjust the distance between a planet and your spaceship.
This means that you can almost "land" on to the planet if you
set the Distance to its minimum. If you have a huge planet image
with wonderful details you may see some "Life" (Being) on the
planet. Most of planet overlaping is avoid so that you can get
a better view of universe. More space ships are provided by
this version.
There are several options available:
1). Collision -- The ship will be hit by a variety of
Space object such as meteors, Shooting stars,
space ships when this option is on. You can make
your star trek safer by setting the frequency of
collision to the minimum.
2). Star War -- The ship will attach coming space objects
with its laser gun when this option is enabled. You
can stop the Star War by setting the frequency of
shooting to the minimum.
3). Sound Effects -- Space Explorer will provide sound
effects for laser shooting and collision with this
option on. Music will be turn off when this option
is on.
4). Background Music -- You can enjoy a background music
when Space Explorer is enabled.
5). Import Your Own Space Object -- You can import up to
200 your own space objects in the setup screen.
6). Import Your Own background music -- You can import
your favorite music in the setup screen.
The SETUP.EXE will copy five files into your windows directory:
space.src -- The main executable file of Space Explorer;
space.txt -- Documentation file;
collide.wav -- Wave file required for collision sound effect;
hi.wav -- Wave file required for spaceman talk;
music.wav -- Wave file required for background music;
register.wav -- Wave file for register;
planet0.bmp
- planet14.bmp -- BMP files for space objects;
saverv.exe -- Savervisor (see description below);
saverv.txt -- Documentation of Svervisor.
utility.dll -- A DLL used by Savervisor

Savervisor (V2.0 - A) - This is a COOL screen saver and wall
paper
manager. It provides:
- It appears like an icon that allows you launch a screen
saver
instantly by a single click at it using RIGHT mouse button.
It can
be set to always at the top to increase your accessibility.
-* It can illustrate all the screen savers in your Windows
directory
in different styles(ONCE, CIRCLE, and RANDOM).
- It also works as the saver section of Windows Desktop
allowing you select, setup, and test a screen saver within
its
setup screen.
- It provides a very strong wall paper management capability.
First, it allows you select a BMP file as your wall paper
from anywhere of your file system including network and CD
drives and provides you a preview of the selected image.
-* Secondly, it can walk you through the entire file system
including network and CD drives. That is, it displays all
the BMP files in your file system one after another as wall
paper - You can see exactly how the wall paper looks on your
screen instead of a single BMP image(specially, when tile is
set). You can choose from either automatic or clicking to
switch images when BMP is illustrated.
- It also provides some other function such as tile setting.
Note: You can use all the functions provided by Savervisor up to
30 times - then you have to register if you still want to use
it. There are two ways to register Savervisor:
1). After register Space Explorer in Compuserve. You can
use the Registration Code for Space Explorer to register
both Space Explorer and Savervisor. you will then
receive limited functions provided by Savervisor.
(The functions above marked with * are not available
if you register Savervisor with the Registration
Code for Space Explorer.)
2). To enable its function completely you need to register
Savervisor using SWREG #4880 in Compuserve or send $15 to
the address below.
Why use Savervisor with Space Explorer?
Savervisor enable you to launch Space Explorer
instantly by a single RIGHT mouse button click.
Note: For the best sound and view effects, a sound card
and 256 color are recommended. Off or dim light will
also make a significant difference in visual effect.
planet0 through planet4 are arranged to be displayed
as a huge object - please use large 256 color bmps
for them if you are going to replace them with
your own bmps.
Environment requirement: VBRUN300.DLL and MMSYSTEM.DLL.
TroubleShooting:
- Q: I have a multimedia system, with .WAV capability, and
in fact, I hear .WAV files with most every application.
Why can I NOT hear sounds with your screen saver?
(The Sounds option is grayed out, and I cannot check
it.)
A: The Saver disables Sound option if it does not detect a
sound device that it knows. You can enforce it accepts
you sound system by following steps:
1). disable (turn off) the saver;
2). open (double click at icon of) file
c:\windows\space.ini
(assuming c:\windows is your Windows directory)
in your windows File Manager;
3). change
EnforceSoundOn= 0
into
EnforceSoundOn= 1
4). save and close the file;
5.) bring up the setup screen of the saver;
6). check (enable) field "Sound On";
7). click at OK to exit the setup screen of the
saver;
You can register in Compuserve SWREG #4566.
