  29.  
  30. Execute-IT will start any Windows program during system inactivity.  You 
  31. specify the program name, system idle period and other options to enable 
  32. this screen saver engine to turn your executables into a screen saver.
  33. This has many uses in the advertising and presentation fields.  Use your
  34. own high end presentation or demoing program to generate an executable 
  35. then Execute-IT via this program.

  53. 3.0 Specifying an Executable                 
  54.  
  55. In the bottom portion of the main Execute-IT window is a section labeled
  56. executable, the first entry in this section is File.  Type in the name of an
  57. executable here (try C:\WINDOW\CLOCK.EXE) and then press the "Store Executable
  58. Settings" button.  You have now setup the Microsoft Windows Clock program to
  59. startup automatically during system inactivity.  Press the "Blank Now" button
  60. to make sure it works.  If clock did not start check to make sure the path and
  61. spelling were correct.  Windows may not be in the C:\WINDOWS directory on
  62. your system.  The "Params" edit area of the executable section allows you 
  63. to specify command line parameters to the startup executable.  Some programs
  64. allow command line parameters to control or enable certain features or
  65. capibilities of that program

  68. 4.0 Options
  69.  
  70. This section will discribe each of the options available in Execute-IT.
  71. Starting in the Options section.
  72.  
  73. The "Enable" check box turns off and on the screen saver.  If this check box
  74. is off the screen saver will not startup during system inactivity.
  75.  
  76. The "Input Abort" check box if checked will attempt to terminate the 
  77. executable automatically when any mouse movement, mouse button press or
  78. key press is detected.  The is useful to automatically return you to the 
  79. system while the screen saver if running.  See the section on Terminating
  80. an Executable for more information on this.

  82. The "Hide Cursor" check box if checked will force the mouse cursor to be
  83. hiden when the screen saver starts up.  This would normally be used with
  84. the "Input Abort" option.

  86. The "Hide Icon" check box if checked will hide the Execute-IT icon when 
  87. Execute-IT is minimized.  This is useful if you don't want other people 
  88. to see or be aware of the screen saver you are running.  Also when 
  89. started from the StartUp group it is minimized so it can be hidden from 
  90. you as well so you don't have to see it each time you start Windows.

  92. The "Check Port Active" is a hidden option.  If used it will not allow the
  93. screen saver to start up if a COM port or LPT port is in use.  This is useful
  94. if the executable to be run needs a lot of cpu power, starting this program 
  95. while communicating could slow down data transfers.  To set this option go 
  96. to the exesaver.ini file which is created the first time you run Execute-IT.
  97. It will be in the same directory as the EXESAVER.EXE program.  On the line
  98. that reads "CHECK PORT ACTIVE=0" change the 0 to a 1.  This will enable this
  99. feature.  This feature was hidden because on some systems with many ports
  100. the time it took to check the ports was longer then the timer to test again
  101. thus the system was locking up.

  103. The "Hot Corners" check box if checked will enable two Hot Corners.  If you
  104. place your mouse cursor in the upper right for 1 second the screen saver
  105. will start.  If you place your mouse cursor in the lower right the screen
  106. saver will not start up even if the system is inactive.

  108. The "Maximize on Start" check box if checked will start the executable in
  109. a full maximized state to fill the Windows screen.  Note: Not all Windows
  110. programs can fill the screen.  Try this with the clock.exe program.  You 
  111. will have a clock that fills your Windows screen.

  113. The "Password" button if pressed will allow you to turn off and on the 
  114. password option as well as change the password.  The password gets stored
  115. in the exesaver.ini file in case you need to get to it.  The password option
  116. if enabled will force you to enter the password before returning to the 
  117. system after the screen saver has been started.  This is a security 
  118. feature to keep others from looking at your screen while you step away
  119. from your system.

  121. The "Timer" section allows you to set the number of minutes the system
  122. must be inactive before the screen saver will start.  The default is
  123. 10 minutes.

  126. 5.0 Terminating an Executable
  127.  
  128. Once a program has been started closing it down automatically is not always
  129. easy.  By default most programs will close down without a problem but
  130. some may be more difficult.  If the program you are using does not close
  131. down as expected then follow these notes.  Press the "Advance..." button,
  132. this will bring up a dialog box with 5 radio button on it.  By default the
  133. one labeled "Level 1" should be selected.  You don't really need to know
  134. what each of the Levels mean in order to try them.  Just select the next
  135. Level number down the list and test the screen saver again to see if your
  136. executable closes down.  If you reach Level 5 and it does not appear to 
  137. be working make sure you have the "Input Abort" check box checked.  If 
  138. the "Input Abort" box was checked you may not be able to automatically 
  139. close down your program.  Uncheck the "Input Abort" box and close down
  140. your program manually to return to the system after the screen saver
  141. has been started.
