  16. Welcome to my first effort at creating something useful for 
  17. teachers.  I hope that it works for you.

  20.     *At the moment* this is Postcard ware.  ie. if you use

  27.     "Rocks" is a fairly straight forward piece of software 
  28. written in Visual Basic.  This means that you must have 
  29. VBRUN300.DLL (or VBRUN200.DLL) sitting in your Windows/System
  30. directory or it won't work.  VBRUN300.DLL can be found in a 
  31. great many places on the internet.

  36. *The Program*
  37.  
  38.     N.B. This is a Windows only program!
  39.  
  40.     I hope that it is fairly self explanitory!  Basically
  41. you click on the different arrows and labels to try to
  42. arrange the rock cycle in to the correct form.  I would teach
  43. a bit about the three different types of rock and then throw
  44. them at the program.
  45.     If they get it right the program tells them how many 
  46. times they got it wrong and shows a picture of the 1943 
  47. Paracutin eruption (at night).  If they get it first time on 
  48. "Very Hard" setting then they get a picture of Kilauea 
  49. erupting with a white helicopter in middle of the image, 
  50. sitting right over the orange lava fountain.  I am indebted to 
  51. Joy Crisp at N.A.S.A. who made the .bmp files available to me.

  53.     Please note that whenever they start again, the setting
  54. is returned to "Very Hard".  The difficulty can be changed by 
  55. selecting different levels from the "Difficulty" menu in the 
  56. menu bar.  Doing this turns some of the labels and arrows to 
  57. the correct setting and disables them.

  60. *Some Secrets*
  61.  
  62.     I set this up so that when the students do it on 
  63. "Very Hard" setting they get a static screen which they cannot
  64. escape from.  this is so that they complain to the teacher who
  65. then knows that they are ready to do some more work.....  In
  66. reality if they click on the helicopter they exit the program
  67. and if they click on the top of the lava flow they start 
  68. again.
