Galleria Lite
-------------
Version 1.0 - December 1, 1994
DESCRIPTION:
Galleria Lite is a fast and easy to use bitmap viewer for 32-bit Intel-
based systems using IBM OS/2 2.1, 2.11 or 3.0, or OS/2 for Windows. It
provides a window for high quality display of images at varying
resolutions on all OS/2-supported display subsystems (up to 24-bit).
Images can be scaled to fit the current window or displayed unscaled.
Galleria Lite reads and writes common bitmap file formats including BMP,
GIF, JPEG, PCX, Targa, TIFF and WPG, plus OS/2 metafiles. Fast support
is provided for the import of Kodak Photo CD and Pro Photo CD images at
all resolutions.
Monochrome and color printed output can also be generated.
Additional features include drag/drop support, a file search function,
the ability to create saved lists for screen shows plus a floating zoom
window.
An online manual for Galleria Lite is provided as part of the package.
SOFTWARE/HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum:
o IBM OS/2 2.1, 2.11 or 3.0, OS/2 for Windows
o 386SX
o 6MB total memory
o VGA, SVGA or XGA card with appropriate display driver
o 600KB free disk space
Recommended:
o IBM OS/2 3.0
o 486SX (or higher)
o 8MB-12MB total memory, 16MB+ for highest Photo CD resolutions
o Video card/display driver combination supporting 256 (or more) colors
INSTALLATION:
To install the software, online documentation etc. you must run the
INSTALL.EXE utility provided. This graphical utility will prompt you for
installation options and destination. All tasks performed as part of the
installation process will be displayed in a scrollable log. This utility
can also be used to fully de-install the software.
When Galleria Lite is first started, you will be prompted for license
details. If you have licensed this software, enter your details exactly
as given. These will be retained across sessions and installs.
A limited function demonstration of this software is available by entering
"DEMO" in the license name field when the software is started. The saving
of files to disk and printing will be disabled, and personal preferences
will not be retained across sessions.
INSTALLING AS WEB EXPLORER VIEWER
To add Galleria Lite as an external viewer for the IBM Internet Connection
WebExplorer, you need to update the PATH statement in CONFIG.SYS with the
name of the directory containing the Galleria Lite executables. Specify
GALLERIA.EXE (no path info) as the Program in the WebExplorer Configure
Viewers dialog for the desired file types (GIF, JPEG etc.). If you turn
off Use Internal Viewer from the Options menu, Galleria Lite will be
invoked to display the image file types selected.
DISPLAY DRIVER PROBLEMS:
Galleria Lite, as a graphics-intensive application, demands a high level
of support from display drivers. It is recommended that you ensure that
you have the latest version of display driver installed for your display
adapter type prior to installation.
Below are fixes or bypasses for common problems that may be experienced:
o Failure with SYS317x/SYS318x etc. when loading first image with VGA and
SVGA drivers. Replacement IBMVGA32.DLL and IBMDEV32.DLL modules are
included in the floppy-based version of this software in PJ10311.ZIP.
These modules are also available for download from the OS2AVEN forum
on CompuServe (as GALPTF.ZIP). Alternatively, contact IBM Support
requesting the fix for APAR PJ10311.
This problem has been fixed in OS/2 3.0.
o Scrolling errors with 8514/A, S3 and ATI drivers. Bad data may be
displayed in the scrolled area or even outside of Zoom window. This
may also result in lockups on S3 systems. Contact IBM Support
requesting the fix for APAR PJ12059.
For ATI cards, contact ATI Technologies for a fix.
o Miscellaneous errors (including exceptions, incorrect colors or
scrolling problems) with other drivers. This is normally an indication
that the display driver currently installed does not fully support
the default "direct" paint mode used by Galleria Lite. These problems
may disappear if you change the driver settings to use a different color
depth. If not, you should be able to bypass the problem by setting the
"Paint directly" cutoff value to the maximum in the Galleria Lite
Preferences dialog. For a permanent fix, contact the vendor of your
display adapter for an updated driver.
PERFORMANCE CONSIDERATIONS:
Memory requirements will depend on the size of the image being processed
and level of edits required. In most cases performance can be improved by
setting the pre-allocated size of your SWAPPER.DAT file to a large value
(eg. 16MB). The SWAPPATH statement in CONFIG.SYS would look something
like this:
SWAPPATH=d:\ 4096 16384
UPGRADES:
Should you wish, you can upgrade from Galleria Lite to a full Galleria
and Galleria/CM license at a later date.
The full function Galleria adds edit facilities (crop, resize, rotate
etc.), image filters, conversion to monochrome/grayscale,
brightness/contrast adjustment etc. All changes made can be controlled
with multi-level undo/redo. Support for scanned input from HP ScanJets
is also included.
Galleria/CM is a flexible screen capture utility with all the options
you'd expect. The capture can be controlled by either double-clicking
on the icon or pressing the Print Screen key.
See the enclosed ORDER.DOC for upgrade details.
SALES/TECHNICAL SUPPORT:
Full sales and technical support for this software is provided on the
OS2AVEN forum on CompuServe. Send a message to "Galleria support" at
100033,340 in section 1.
Updated versions and fixes to this software will also be available for
download from library 1 of this forum.
