  7. in the NetShield documentation.  Please read it
  8. completely before installing NetShield.

  23. Upgrading from Previous Releases
  24. ================================

  26. If you are upgrading to Release 2.1.1 from a previous
  27. version of NetShield, please follow these recommendations.
  28.  
  29. 1.  Backup your existing NetShield installation.  For example:
  30.  
  31.         copy <existing directory>\netshld.nlm <backup directory name>
  32.         copy <existing directory>\*.dat <backup directory name>
  33.  
  34. 2.  Validate the program and data files.  See VALIDATE.TXT and
  35.      PACKING.LST for details.
  36.  
  37. 3.  Copy the new files into the SYS:\SYSTEM directory of your 
  38.      file server.  
  39.  
  40. 4.  If you choose to copy NetShield to a directory other than
  41.      SYS:\SYSTEM, you MUST add this new directory to the server's
  42.      search path.  For example, if you create a new directory called
  43.      SYS:\SYSTEM\NETSHLD, copy your files there and then type:

  45.      search add sys:\system\netshld

  73. Under CONFIGURATION FILE MANAGEMENT OPTIONS, choosing:
  74.  
  75. WRITE CONFIGURATION REPORT TO FILE
  76. or  PRINT CURRENT CONFIGURATION SETTINGS
  77.  
  78. will write/print NetShields configuration information from the 
  79. NetShield settings file, VIR$CFG.DAT.

  81. To obtain an accurate configuration report, first choose:
  82.  
  83.    SAVE CONFIGURATION SETTINGS TO FILE  followed by 
  84.    WRITE CONFIGURATION REPORT TO FILE 
  85. or PRINT CURRENT CONFIGURATION SETTINGS

  87. New Features in NetShield
  88. =========================

  90. PAGER NOTIFICATION
  91. ------------------
  92.  
  93. NetShield will now notify a user or set of users whenever a
  94. virus is detected via a numeric phone pager.  This allows 
  95. the system administrator to be confident that (s)he will 
  96. know immediately if a virus is found.  
  97.  
  98. This feature requires a Hayes(r) compatible modem connected
  99. to each server running NetShield.
  100.  
  101. MHS NOTIFICATION
  102. ----------------
  103.  
  104. NetShield will now notify a user or set of users whenever
  105. a virus is detected via MHS mail.  This allows 
  106. the system administrator to be confident that (s)he will 
  107. know immediately if a virus is found.  
  108.  
  109. This feature requires a Novel Basic or Global MHS server
  110. on the network.
  111.

  113. Changes in This Release
  114. =======================
  115.  
  116.     When using NetLock Security, renames within any directory
  117. monitored by NetLock will be denied.
  118.  
  119. Bugs Fixed in This Release
  120. ==========================
  121.  
  122. Using On Access scanning with several applications,
  123. notably the Microsoft Office suite, would cause file
  124. saves to fail.  This problem has been fixed.
  125.  
  126. User Broadcast Messages were not sent if a virus was found
  127. during an On Access scan.  This has been fixed.
  128.  
  129. If periodic scan settings were changed while active, 
  130. NetShield would allow incomplete settings to be entered.
  131. This has been fixed.
  132.  
  133. When the detected action is set to Move, if the destination
  134. directory does not exist, the Move to option was de-selected.
  135. This has been fixed. The new directory is now created.
  136.  
  137. The CPU utilization number in the "F-10" statistics screen
  138. displayed incorrect numbers.  This has been fixed.

  168. CONFIGURING GLOBAL MHS
  169. ----------------------

  171.     In order for NetShield 2.1 to operate with Global MHS,
  172.     add the following entry to the NGM.CFG file for the MHS
  173.     server:
  174.  
  175.     [MGMSMF]
  176.     sender-validation-enabled=FALSE
  177.  
  178. COEXISTING WITH SITEMETER
  179. -------------------------
  180.  
  181.     If you wish to run SiteMeter in conjunction with NetShield,
  182.     be sure to load SiteMeter before NetShield.  SiteMeter requires
  183.     MATHLIBC.NLM.  NetShield expects MATHLIB.NLM, but will load
  184.     and run properly with MATHLIBC.NLM.  If MATHLIBC.NLM is already
  185.     loaded when you load NetShield, you will see the following 
  186.     message from NetWare:
  187.     
  188.     Public variables exported by this auto loaded NLM already defined.
  189.     Module MATHLIB.NLM NOT loaded.
  190.  
  191.     NetShield will be unaffected.
  192.  
  193. Known Bugs in This Release
  194. ==========================
  195.  
  196.     Loading NetShield from a directory other than SYS:\SYSTEM
  197.     without adding the directory to the path will abend the 
  198.     server. Example:
  199.     
  200.     search add SYS:\SYSTEM\NETSHLD
  201.  
  202.     NetShield will not load if the files NAMES.DAT and/or SCAN.DAT
  203.     are read only.  If necessary, use the DOS command ATTRIB to 
  204.     remedy the problem. Example:
  205.  
  206.     attrib -r names.dat
  207.     attrib -r scan.dat
