~ THE SPACE SHUTTLE ~
Type Hot Key "A" for Graphic of the Space Shuttle
_________________________________________________
Even if you have an old EGA monitor, this graphic of the Space Shuttle landing
at Edwards Air Force Base may look OK on your monitor. If you have VGA, SVGA
or Multi-Sync this graphic and those which follow will look even better. This
is our first example of the use of graphics in an e-publication. E-Z-Book is
set up to display many different pictures and charts.(A)
When done viewing the picture press any key and you will be returned here.
Afterward, remember to press the Page-Down key whenever you are ready to
proceed to the next page.
<> COLORFUL CIRCUS CLOWN <>
Clowns have been a universally loved part of circuses for hundreds of years.
You may view a full-color picture of a wonderful clown by typing the correct
hot key.(B)
To view this picture you must have VGA or SVGA ... EGA will not do.
Type Hot Key "B" to view the clown graphic

PICTURE STACKING
ä███████████████████████████████████████à
It is possible to "stack" a set of pictures. For example, if you had several
clown pictures, you might want the reader to view them one after another. To
see how picture stacking works, type "C" and you will see the pictures you
have already seen plus one new one. The pictures display one after the other
as you press any key. After the 3rd picture this page reappears. Needs VGA,
SVGA or Multi-Sync. __________

Type hot key "C" to see an example of three stacked pictures
____________________________________________________________
When finished viewing a picture press any key for the next picture.

~ CHANGING STYLE OR SIZE OF TEXT FONT ~
à ä
E-Z-Book lets you select size and style of lettering. This sample e-book is
set up to demonstrate various fonts. When you publish your own e-book you
will select the font you want for your text, and your readers will not be able
to change it unless you give them the option. The font you now see will
change to a smaller size when you type the number 1. Try it now! You may
type 2 to resume our default font or 3 for the largest standard font. Type 4
for Nu Roman, 5 for Tall Roman, 6 for Art Deco, 7 for Slender, 8 for Slim Jim,
9 for Thix, 0 for Italic. Each of these hot keys loads a different HQ module.
HQ modules are a Rexxcom exclusive. When you jump to hypertext or graphics
the sample e-book's default font is resumed when you return to the chapter.
A hot key may be a letter or a number. We chose to use numbers for these.
1 = Small, 2 = Medium, 3 = Large, 4 = Nu Roman, 5 = Tall Roman
6 = Art Deco, 7 = Slender, 8 = Slim Jim, 9 = Thix, 0 = Italic

HYPERTEXT LINKING
ä████████████████████████████à
Hypertext linking(D) allows you to use a "hot-key" for further information
on topics which your reader may want to learn more about. With this feature,
links are created between related items. The full-color graphics you already
saw are an example of the use of such a link. In the first sentence of this
paragraph, the letter D in parentheses tells the reader to type that letter
to read more about the subject of "hypertext linking." Try it by typing "D"
(the hot-key for this subject) now.

~ STARS FACES AND LINES ~
<>
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
E-Z-Book allows you include 5-pointed stars and smiling faces anywhere you
want them in your text. You may also underline selected words.(E)
_________
Note: Type the hot-key letter which appears above
in parentheses, to see the related hypertext notes.

FONT-CHANGING HYPERTEXT
AND E-BOOK COVERS
² ÷
At one time or another you may want the font style to change automatically
when the reader accesses a hypertext link. To see this in action, type "F"
now.(F) You will also see an example of multi-file hypertext linking in
which you will view sample e-book covers, including a photographic cover.

MUSIC
ä█████████à
Musical pieces may be included as hypertext, although perhaps the correct term
should be hypersound. We included two hot keys for music. Type either key
and you will be able to listen to a musical composition.(M,N) More elaborate
music is possible if your readership consists of computer users who have
sound-boards and stereo speakers attached to their computers. Just as pictures
may be "stacked" so may musical pieces. The hot key "O" provides an example.

Studying this sample e-book will get you started with your own e-book. When
it's finished, upload it to GEnie, America Online, CompuServe, the Internet,
etc., making it available to millions. But how do you get paid for your liter-
ary masterpiece? You use the program SOFTLOCK to encrypt part of your e-book
so no one can read the entire book until they enter a password. Readers of
your book call SoftLock's toll-free number, pay by credit card, and receive a
unique password. The password makes the encrypted chapters readable, and YOU
get checks in the mail from SoftLock Services! When you register E-Z-Book you
will receive a FREE copy of SOFTLOCK, plus our companion program ENCRYPT, easy
directions, graphics programs, and even a file compression program. In other
words, everything you need to become an author-publisher. It's easy, and it's
spelled out in the user guide. At the DOS prompt type DOCPRINT (Enter).
