History of changes to PSPrint:
Version 2.2 (6/23/94)
New functionality:
- Ability to disable/enable paper tray selection options (see psprint.doc)
- Ability to use default config file PSPRINT.CFG
- Paper trays can be selected by number (1 or 2) or automatically
by paper size.
- Support for the United States, Multilingual, Slavic, Portuguese,
Canadian-French, Nordic character sets (code pages). Characters
0-31 are still not defined.
- "Shrink 2 pages" can now be done for landscape pages as well as
portrait pages.
- Ability to specify line height.
- Ability to specify all margins (top, bottom, left, and right).
- Added page range.
Other changes:
- Adjusted the Interactive User Interface screen.
- Improved description of shareware in PSPRINT.DOC.
- Added multi-user license costs to REGISTER.TXT.
- Improved page size resolution to fractions of points.
Version 2.1 1/3/94
Bug fixes:
- Improper stack handling caused printers to run out of memory on
long documents.
- Fixed memory leaks.
- Page handling logic was incorrect if a full page was followed by
a form feed.
New functionality:
- Defaults to new PSPrint font with most IBM character symbols
(line drawing, European characters, etc.). At this time, the
PSPrint font is somewhat crude: the line drawing characters are
too thick, and characters 0-31 are not defined with the exception
of the paragraph and section symbols. However, the font should
be sufficient for most purposes.
Other changes:
- Got rid of the "global page numbers" option to simplify things in
preparation for future page selection options.
- Wrapped page descriptions with save/restore operators as
recommended in the PostScript Language Reference Manual.
- Revamped documentation. Added PRINTDOC.BAT batch file to print it.
- Added PACKING.LST and VENDOR.DOC files.
Version 2.0 11/19/93
Bug fixes:
- Form feeds immediately followed by text (i.e., not on a line by
themselves) were not handled properly.
- Output to a file of multiple input files would overwrite itself,
leaving only the last input file.
- Input files specified with a device name but no directory path
(i.e., A:FOO.TXT) could not be read.
New functionality:
- Response files to simplify specification of often-used settings.
- "Shrink 2 pages to 1 sheet" option (-2).
- Support for A4 paper (-pa).
- Support for 8-bit character sets.
- Clip text at right margin.
User interface improvements:
- Display default values.
- Restricted data entry to meaningful characters
(like no letters in numeric fields).
- Added support for mutually exclusive radio button options.
Changed paper selection and page break stuff to radio buttons.
- Indicate progress by displaying page number.
- Improved error messages.
- Report usage counts for unregistered versions (a gentle reminder).
- Changed certain screen prompts to clarify their meaning.
- Changed default output in help from "PRN:" to "PRN" -- the former
was confusing, as it incorrectly implied that device names need
colons.
Other changes:
- Complete re-write into C++.
- Added structure comments to produce conforming PostScript
documents which can then be parsed by other utilities.
- Use PostScript variables and procedures for improved modularity,
making hand modifications of the PostScript document much easier.
- More detailed explanation of fonts and output devices in
PSPRINT.DOC.
Version 1.0 10/8/93
- Initial release.
