===================================================================
A few GridCraft users have requested a means of converting
computer image files to GridCraft patterns. An additional program
to do this has been provided on this disk. The program GIF2GRID
will convert "GIF" files (a common format for image files) to
pattern files. To run the program change to the GridCraft directory
and type:
GIF2GRID gif_filename grid_filename
where gif_filename is the name of the GIF picture file and
grid_filename is the name of the pattern file you wish to create.
GridCraft works with 16 colors. If you wish to convert an image
file with more then 16 colors then a pattern file with 16 shades of
gray will be created.
Programs exist which can convert image files of various formats
to GIF files, and can change pictures with many colors to 16 colors
with surprisingly good results. One such program, "Image Alchemy",
is available commercially, and as a (slightly limited) working
evaluation copy from...

When converting image files to patterns each pixel of the
picture is converted to a grid square. This can lead to patterns
which are too large to "load" into GridCraft when converting
large images. There are a few ways to get around this problem.
The easiest solution is to use the program GCRESIZE to shrink
the size of the pattern (see details in the manual). A second
solution is to "merge" the pattern in using the "offset" option
to load different sections of the larger pattern, and then loading
the color palette off of the original pattern before saving the
section. All of these options are found in the "File" menu. You
may want to "resize" the drawing sheet first in the Setup menu.
A few example patterns (all of which end with ".pat") have
been included on the distribution disks. The 5.25" disk contains
more patterns than the 3.5" disk because of the greater storage
size.
A second example configuration file with colors that are more
"quiet" has been included on the disks. To use it change to the
directory you work in and type "copy a:\grid2.cfg gridc.cfg".
Suggestions and comments are always welcome. For those of you
who have access to the Internet you can send Email to:

disk is in drive a: ) type:
