GDS 3.1c GIF/JPEG/ANSI+ Viewer/Cataloger/Converter
DOS GDS GIF JPEG JPG ANSI BMP VIEW VIEWER CSHOW VPIC VIDVUE THUMBS
FILES: gds31c
Author: Photodex Corp., Paul Schmidt
Registration: $39.95
GDS is the most flexible, powerful and easy-to-use file viewer, cataloger, and
converter for PCs. It is used by BBS system operators to catalog thousands of
graphics files, and by CompuServe to catalog tens of thousands of images on-
line. GDS makes it simple to navigate through huge amounts of information,
pointing and clicking to see what is what.
GDS has automatic video configuration built-in, so there is no need to mess
around with confusing configuration files or setup programs.
Supported: GIF JPG PCX PCC RAX Supported: Herc VGA VESA
Graphics: BMP TIF MAC RIX RFX Video : CGA SVGA TIGA
Formats : TGA LBM BBM IFF ANSi Hardware: EGA XGA
GDS supports reading from and writing to virtually all above file formats,
including 1, 2, 4, 8, 15, 16, 24 and 32 bit files, which are monochrome, CGA
4 colors, 16 colors, 256 colors, 32,768 colors, 65,536 colors and 16 million
colors (TrueColor). There are no resolution limitations.
GDS can display any supported file format in any supported display mode, just
about as good as is possible with any software. The color reduction in GDS is
not only the fastest available, but is better than any other viewer available.
This means that if you need to view a 24 bit file in 256 colors, GDS is the
viewer to use.
GDS also uses ultra-fast scaling to shrink images when it needs to resize a
picture. If you need to view images which are larger than your screen, just
hit [Alt-F] to 'Fit' the image to your screen. There are many other commands
related to scaling images as well.
The file display in GDS is intuitive and easy-to-use. Simply select a range
of files to catalog and select 'Create Catalog' from the pull-down menus, and
GDS will automatically create a custom catalog for you. You can customize the
look and feel of the catalog with readily accessible menu or keyboard options.
In addition, GDS allows you to automate slide-shows and catalog creation with
hundreds of command line parameters, specifically designed for power users.
CATALOGS! After you create catalogs, you can view them (with a double click)
and then point and click on a thumbnail to view the original images. This
turns GDS into an instant vehicle for simple archiving. Special versions of
GDS are available for CD-ROM production, more information is enclosed with
this trial version of GDS. You can even catalog ANSI and text files!
CONVERSIONS! You can convert batches of files simply by selecting a range and
choosing the destination file format from the 'Convert' pull-down menu. Batch
conversions are rare, but GDS makes it painless. The color reduction in GDS
is exquisite, and can be used to reduce batches of TGA or JPG files into GIF
files for publication. Many top CD-ROM graphics publishers use GDS for it's
conversions to 8 bit formats.
ANSI FILES! GDS is now an ANSI file viewer! In addition, the professional
versions of GDS can even convert any graphics format TO ANSI, and back again.
This is done with a sophisticated algorithm which matches the ANSI character
set to an image, creating a text file with the minimum amount of distortion
possible. Absolutely necessary for modern BBS sysops who have to keep up with
the times! Remember, ANSI will be around for a long time!
This trial version is limited to 25 files at once (per directory), and does
not support conversion to JPEG, ANSI or writing color reduced files. Some of
the more sophisticated command line options are reserved for the enhanced
version as well, but the trial version is still 100% functional.
The enhanced version is available from Photodex for $39.95+s/h, and comes
with the 'GDS User's Guide', and a 3.5" disk. The enhanced version prints to
HP LaserJet II, III, 4, and HP DeskJet color ink jet printers. Professional
versions have several features including scanning to some scanners, and some
very powerful batch catalog creation functions. Contact Photodex for more
information on the professional versions of GDS.
