ESCAPE FROM MARKANA 2 SHAREWARE VERSION 1.0 - README.DOC FILE
Copyright (C) 1997 Gerald Rosen Inc.
Gerald Rosen Inc. presents ESCAPE FROM MARKANA 2, a game by Gerald Rosen
THE STORY
You have surmounted the puzzles and obstacles in Escape from Markana.
Intrepid adventurer that you are, however, you have ventured back into
Markana and have been captured again. This time your captors give you
40 puzzles and tell you if you solve them all they will let you go.
They smirk as they give you the puzzles, since no one has ever solved
all 40 of them. But they also have not encountered the likes of you
before. Can you solve all of the puzzles and escape from Markana?
BRIEF DESCRIPTION
Escape from Markana 2 consists of 40 multi-screen puzzles (15 in
the shareware version). The puzzles have up to 200 screens each. You
start each puzzle at a white cone; the object is to get to a green
cone. In two of the puzzles, that's all you have to do. In all of
the rest you must push gray cylinders or (registered version only)
slide gold cylinders under red squares to open a hole, allowing you
access to the green cone. Various puzzle elements such as red mines,
blue beams, green slabs, green mines, blue teleportation cones,
triggered pistons, extra cylinders, and (in the registered version)
electromagnets, hole switches, and laser-firing cylinders influence
the way the puzzles are solved.
DIFFERENCES FROM THE FIRST ESCAPE FROM MARKANA
(This game is an entirely new game.)
1. This game consists exclusively of puzzles rather than puzzles and
obstacles to surmount.
2. This game has 40 levels (15 in the shareware version) rather than 12.
3. You can do the puzzles in any order.
4. You do not have to wait to begin the first time you play it.
5. Your man is running rather than walking.
6. You can save your position anywhere in a puzzle.
7. A key has been added that lets you move your man continuously without
holding down a key.
8. Much less memory is needed to run the game.
9. The whole game can be played from one EXE file.
10.The instructions are part of the main program rather than a separate
program.
11.Some of the elements of the puzzle (such as the cones) are used
differently or slightly differently (a piston trigger is reset
when you leave a screen) than they were used in the first game.
12.The sound effects/footsteps sound choice is the default rather
than the music sound choice.
REQUIREMENTS
1. A 33Mhz 386 or better (486, 586, Pentium(R), 686, etc.)
2. An EGA monitor or better (VGA, SVGA)

TO PLAY THE GAME
Type MarkanII at the DOS prompt. After the title screen you
will be given a choice whether you want to read the instructions,
play the game, etc. You can press F1 at any time while playing a
puzzle for a list of key assignments and puzzle elements.
WINDOWS(R) USERS NOTE
The game should be played from the DOS prompt. It should not be
played from a DOS window. Windows 95(R) (and later versions) users
should press the F8 key (or the appropriate key if using your old DOS)
when the message "Starting Windows 95..." appears at boot-up and choose
the Command prompt option, or they should let Windows 95 start and then
shut down Windows, choosing the restart in MS-DOS(R) mode option at
shutdown. When the DOS command prompt appears, if the game is on a hard
disk, type CD\directoryname, where directoryname is the name of the
directory in which the program is stored; if playing from a floppy disk
type A: or B:, depending upon which drive contains the program. Then
type MARKANII to start the program.
IF YOU WANT TO SAVE MORE THAN ONE PUZZLE
Copy the files MARK2SAV.DAT and SIZSAV.DAT to other file names
(using the format copy oldfilename newfilename) after you save a file
and copy them back to the original filenames when you want to use them.
ABORT, RETRY, IGNORE, FAIL
If you do something like trying to save a game on a floppy disk
with the write protect tab on and get DOS's "abort, retry, ignore, fail"
message, fix the problem, type r to retry, and type t to retry if the
program's error message comes up. Then, to clear the
"abort, retry, ignore, fail" message, save your game if the message came
up on something other than a save, and load the saved game.
TAKE IT EASY
Anytime you use a computer you may be subject to repetitive stress
injury (such as carpal tunnel syndrome), so it is a good idea to sit
comfortably (but in an upright position), keep your wrists flat, change
your position, take breaks, take it easy on the keys, and rest if
anything bothers you. The game will always be there the next day.

REGISTRATION
If you like the game please register it. Much hard work went
into it, and the registration price is modest ($10.00 plus
$2.00 shipping). The registered version has 25 additional puzzles,
and these contain more puzzle elements. You will find challenging
puzzles of a number of difficulties. In short, you will find
registration worthwhile.
DISTRIBUTION
This shareware version of the game may be freely copied and
distributed provided that no more than a nominal charge is made for
the distribution and provided that all the files listed above in the
FILES INCLUDED section are distibuted unmodified and are distributed
together.
RESTRICTIONS ON USAGE
The program and its accompanying files may not be modified,
disassembled, or decompiled.

other party for any damages, including any lost profits, other monetary

Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of liability for
