  254.   The IBM Credit Card Adapter for Ethernet (Credit Card Adapter) is a
  255.   credit-card-sized adapter that provides an interface between computer systems
  256.   and Ethernet networks.  The Credit Card Adapter is designed to operate in
  257.   computer systems having Personal Computer Memory Card International
  258.   Association (PCMCIA) Release 2.0, Type II slots.  The Credit Card Adapter
  259.   complies with PCMCIA and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics
  260.   Engineers (IEEE) 802.3 standards.

  262.   The Credit Card Adapter uses the following computer system software programs
  263.   and PCMCIA services to operate:
  264.  
  265.   REQUIRED SYSTEM SOFTWARE

  267.   o   IBM* or Microsoft** Disk Operating System (DOS) Version 5.0 (or higher)

  312.       This Credit Card Adapter kit contains either an Ethernet 10BASE2 MAM or
  313.       an Ethernet 10BASE-T MAM.  The MAM consists of a short cable with
  314.       connectors at both ends.  One end of the cable is used to connect the
  315.       cable to the adapter and the other is used to connect to the network
  316.       cable.  See the Appendix, "Media Access Module (MAM) Specifications" on
  317.       page 31 for more information.

  319.   o   IBM Credit Card Adapter for Ethernet diskette Version 1.2 (3-1/2 inch)
  320.  
  321.       If your Credit Card Adapter installation diskette is damaged, in the
  322.       United States and Canada, you can call the IBM Personal Computer Company
  323.       Bulletin Board System (BBS) at (404) 835-6600.  You can download a copy
  324.       of the diskette from the BBS by using a modem.  Outside of the United
  325.       States or Canada, contact your IBM marketing representative.

  337.                     choosing the driver that is compatible with your network
  338.                     operating system.

  373.   To install the Credit Card Adapter, you need the Credit Card Adapter diskette
  374.   and the following items:

  376.   o   A computer system with a PCMCIA Release 2.0, Type II card slot
  377.  
  378.   o   IBM PC-DOS or Microsoft** MS-DOS** Version 5.0 (or higher), installed
  379.  
  380.   o   PCMCIA Card Services Version 2.0 and PCMCIA Socket Services Version 2.0
  381.       if you want to use the card services or socket services programming
  382.       interfaces
  383.  
  384.   o   Resource Map Utility, which is included with your computer system's
  385.       reference diskettes, installed

  387.   o   One of the following network operating system software programs for
  388.       Ethernet:

  390.       -   IBM Local Area Network (LAN) Support Program, Version 1.3 (or higher)

  419.   o   IBM OS/2 Version 2.1, installed with PCMCIA Card Services Version 2.0.
  420.       (Card Services Version 2.0 is included with OS/2 Version 2.1)

  422.   o   PCMCIA Socket Services Version 2.0 (for OS/2) and Resource Map Utility
  423.       (for OS/2, which is included with your computer system's reference
  424.       diskettes), installed

  426.   o   One of the following Ethernet network software programs:

  428.       -   Network Transport Services/2 (NTS/2), which includes the LAN adapter
  429.           and protocol support (LAPS)
  430.  
  431.       -   Any of the following programs, which contain the LAN adapter and

  466.   Before installing the Credit Card Adapter, be sure that the following tasks
  467.   have been completed:
  468.  
  469.   o   You have installed the software listed in "Preparing for Installation
  470.       with DOS" on page 11  or "Preparing for Installation with OS/2" on
  471.       page 12  according to the instructions provided with the software.
  472.  
  473.   o   You have a connection available to the Ethernet network.
  474.  
  475.   The READ.ME file on the diskette contains information to help you configure
  476.   and customize the adapter memory, I/O, interrupts, and other parameters for
  477.   your computer system.  Most users can use the default parameters that are
  478.   provided by the Credit Card Adapter installation program.
  479.  
  480.   INSTALLATION ENVIRONMENTS
  481.  
  482.   Use the procedures in this section to install the Credit Card Adapter when
  483.   using either:
  484.  
  485.  
  486.   o   DOS and either of the following:
  487.           IBM LAN Support Program environment (page 14)
  488.           Novell NetWare environment (page 15)
  489.   o   OS/2 and either of the following:
  490.           IBM communication program environments with IBM LAPS (page 16)
  491.           Novell NetWare environment (page 18)

  499.   the steps necessary for a successful installation.

  509.   Perform the following installation steps for the Credit Card Adapter when
  510.   using DOS and the IBM LAN Support Program (LSP) environment:
  511.  
  512.   1.  Run the installation aid that is included with the IBM LSP.
  513.  
  514.       NOTES:
  515.  
  516.       a.  During the LSP installation process, indicate that you have an
  517.           adapter option diskette.
  518.  
  519.       b.  Make a note of the LSP installation directory name.  You will need
  520.           the directory name when you perform the installation procedures that
  521.           are referred to in step 2.
  522.  
  523.       c.  While running the LSP installation aid, when you are prompted for the
  524.           option diskette, insert the IBM Credit Card Adapter for Ethernet
  525.           diskette to load the IBM-supplied NDIS driver.
  526.  
  527.   2.  Install the Credit Card Adapter software using the installation
  528.       procedures in "Installing the Credit Card Adapter Software" on page 19.
  529.       During the installation procedures, select the option for the NDIS
  530.       environment for DOS.
  531.  
  532.   3.  Install the adapter using the instructions in "Installing the Credit Card
  533.       Adapter" on page 23.
  534.  
  535.   4.  Install the network workstation operating system software (for example,
  536.       DOS LAN Requester or PC LAN Program) using the installation procedures
  537.       that are supplied with the programs.
  538.  
  539.   5.  If any error messages are displayed after you have installed the Credit
  540.       Card Adapter in the previous step, see "Running the Credit Card Adapter
  541.       Diagnostics Program" on page 26 to help resolve the errors.

  549.   OVERVIEW - INSTALLATION WITH NOVELL NETWARE (FOR DOS)

  551.   Perform the following installation steps for the Credit Card Adapter when
  552.   using DOS and the Novell NetWare environment.
  553.  
  554.   1.  Use either the Novell NetWare instructions or workstation copy commands
  555.       to copy the NetWare files to your computer system's disk drive.  The
  556.       following Novell NetWare files must be copied from the NetWare
  557.       installation diskettes to your computer system:
  558.  
  559.       o   LSL.COM, IPXODI.COM, and NETX.COM
  560.  
  561.       NOTE:  Make a note of the directory name to which the NetWare files are
  562.              copied.  You will need the directory name when you perform the
  563.              installation procedures that are referred to in step 2.
  564.  
  565.   2.  Install the Credit Card Adapter software using the installation
  566.       procedures in "Installing the Credit Card Adapter Software" on page 19.
  567.       During the installation procedures, select the option for the Novell
  568.       NetWare environment for DOS.
  569.  
  570.   3.  Install the adapter using the instructions in "Installing the Credit Card
  571.       Adapter" on page 23.
  572.  
  573.   4.  If any error messages are displayed after you have installed the Credit
  574.       Card Adapter in the previous step, see "Running the Credit Card Adapter
  575.       Diagnostics Program" on page 26 to help resolve the errors.

  907.            the phone jack (for 10BASE-T).

  909.            For 10BASE2 Ethernet, if you are at the end of a network segment,

  912.   Step 4.  Using one hand, attach the MAM to the adapter in the slot.

  914.            The MAM connector is keyed to attach to the adapter one way only.
  915.            If you feel any resistance, remove the MAM connector, turn it over,
  916.            and attach it.

  919.   Step 5.  Turn On (│) the power to the system.

  921.   Each type of MAM has a "data traffic" light-emitting diode (LED).  After the
  922.   Credit Card Adapter has been installed, the LED blinks as data activity on

  982.   interrupt, I/O, and memory configuration for conflicts with the adapter
  983.   settings.  Refer to your operating system (DOS or OS/2) documentation or LAN
  984.   documentation, and to the READ.ME file on your IBM Credit Card Adapter for
  985.   Ethernet diskette, for more information.

  987.   CONNECTIONS:  Unplug and replug all cables, and verify that the cable
  988.   connection between the adapter and the system unit is secure.  See
  989.   "Installing the Credit Card Adapter" on page 23 for instructions.

  991.   o   10BASE-T NETWORK:  Make sure that the hub port you are using is enabled.
  992.       The Link Status LED ("OK") on the 10BASE-T MAM indicates that the
  993.       connection is active and that the hub is sending link pulses to the
  994.       Credit Card Adapter.  Most hubs and repeaters also have status lights
  995.       that indicate whether they are receiving link pulses from workstation
  996.       nodes.

  998.   o   10BASE2 NETWORK:  You need a T-connector with two 50-ohm
  999.       terminators to run 10BASE2 diagnostic testing.  If the connector and
  1000.       terminators are not used, part of the 10BASE2 diagnostics will be
  1001.       bypassed.
