F-14 Tomcat Jan 31,1993

Version 3
The following notes are from my original F-14 model. Since loading up
the original F14, I have had numerous comments expressing how much the aircraft
was liked and a wish that I would update the model. The main items reqested were
for a solid canopy and a more high speed stable model with less bleed through.
With version 3, both these wishes have been met. As well, the model looks
much better with almost all bleedthrough eliminated. The little bit left
will have to be lived with. Further, I had to remove two of the aim-54
missiles. This was done to lower the part number. The result is a much better
and detailed aircraft. The sim reference model was redone to provide a better
platform for stability at high speeds. It is still possible to generate high
speed stalls, so easy on stick movements at high speeds. Landing characteristics
remain the same, except that braking has been strengthed so that
carrier landings are less nerve racking. I do hope that I am forgiven for the
dark grey tires... it was the only way to keep all the moving parts working.

This file contains the two needed files to get the F-14 up and running
with the flight simulator. The F-14 proved to be a challange to build
as the conformal fuselage and swing wing assembly required some
careful drafting. The aircraft depicted is an F-14B loaded with 4 Aim-54
Phoenix missiles. This model has several features incorporated. I have
put auto extending slots and flaps. The slots begin extending at about
200 kts. These enhance manoeuverability at low speed on the real aircraft.
The flaps begin to extend at about 160 kts. If you view the aircraft at
low speed, or as you transition to low speed, you will see these parts
extend. The red lines are the red paint on the edges of these parts, and
shows up as you extend. At full extension, you will see quite a
curved wing. This structure of course is needed on the real aircraft
for high lift at low approach speeds. Like the real aircraft, I have
tweaked the flight model to be stable at low speed. You can do 120 kts
approach and landings to the carriers. Make sure that you have full flaps
and spoilers, and adjust power to keep a 120 approach. If you land correctly,
you should be able to cut power, brake, and steer to the catpult. You can
then do a full power take off.
At the other extreme, the wings swing back at about 400 kts for high
speed flight. Further, at 680 kts, the supersonic wing gloves extend
for further control. I have scaled and tweaked the sim file to
feel like what I am told the F-14 performs like. Any improvements of
course would be welcomed, just load the sim file back up. Thanks.
I have depicted the model in VF-84 (Skull & Crossbones of the Jolly Rogers)
colours; of course, the limits put on by AAF did not leave room for the
flag emblem, (fixed in version 3) and the real VF-84 painted their
verticle stabs black (but have changed to grey like everyone else before the
gulf war). I hope you enjoy this model.
Please, any suggestions are welcomed. I have encluded the folowing files
necessary for these aircraft:
F-14 DOC - this file
F14c____ SIM - The F-14 Version 3 files to be put into the FS directory
F14c____
Note: AAF is not needed to fly this sim.
Any response would be welcomed. Reminder: F-14c is not multi player capable.
The F-14 model is copywrite by myself and may not be used for any commercial
purpose without my expressed writen permission.
ciao and enjoy.

November 15th note. My friend Dixon Mak pointed out that I used the
wrong size tires on the F-14. I have fixed that and slightly improved
the source sim. Hence the re-uploading of the file.
