Documentation for my Beechcraft 1900 C commuter airliner.
This being my first attempt at designing an aircraft using the
aircraft
factory, there are at least a few things that could be done
better. The main
reason I'm putting this aircraft here is so others may enjoy it.
But there is
another reason. I would like some help with some problems that I
ran into
while making this plane.

I'm an air traffic controller stationed at Plattsburgh AFB (Air
Force Base)
in upstate New York. The Clinton County Airport (PLB) is 3 miles
to the
north west of the base. Since PLB is in the Plattsburgh AFB ATA
(Airport
Traffic Area), there are days that talk to more civilian pilots
than military
ones. A U.S. Air feeder airline is based at PLB. The aircraft
that I made
reflects the colors of the aircraft used by this airline. The
callsign used
by the airline is Commutair. The main reason that I used this
aircraft is
so one of these days I could sweet talk one of the pilots into
tape recording
one or more of his flights, and presto - adventures that I can
make (when I'm
not making aircraft).
VISUAL MODEL
The aircraft is a Beechcraft 1900 C model. I used the 3 view
drawing from the
Janes book at the base library. I blew up the pictures on a copy
machine,
then traced the outlines to make the parts. I found the Aircraft
Factory a
little difficult to use at first. The more you use it the easier
it is to
use. I think my first project was a little more complex then a
first project
should be. My advice to future designers is to start on a simple
aircraft.
(If there is such a thing).
PROBLEMS I HAD WITH THE VISUAL MODEL
I still haven't figured out how to make angled flat parts. The
main problem
is with the pilots windows and the stripe on the rear of the
aircraft. The
stripes look alright from the side, but the fuselage comes to a
point towards
the rear of the aircraft, and the stripe does not conform to the
side.
This is not too bad but makes for an awkward view from the rear.
The same is true for the windows up front. They look O.K. from
views that are
straight on but don't look very good from the left/right front
view.
I had many, many problems with parts bleeding through other
parts. With a lot
of trial and error, I was able to fix most of the bleeding
problems. I had to
change the paint groups around until I got the effect I wanted.
I do not understand the components group. Well I didn't when I
started, but I
think I learned the hard way. (The hard way: changing every
single window to
the color you want it to be). I guess I could have made all of
the windows
a component and placed them in the components bay. Then saved a
lot of changing
colors by only setting the color of the "windows" component.
I Can't make good circles. I tried my best but they are not
round.
FLYING MODEL
I used the Beech Starship as a base. I found out there are a lot
of numbers
in the ASD aircraft designer I don't understand. I changed the
numbers around
until my aircraft flew like I think a Beech 1900 should fly. (I
have never
flown one).
From my best attempt at test flying this aircraft I have found:
you should rotate at 115Kts
best approach speed is 120Kts
best landing speed is 90-100kts
Experiment and let me know what speeds are best for you.
All of these files can be changed. My intention is not to have a
copyrighted
aircraft(this time) ha ha. What I would like is some advice on
how to make
better aircraft, some different techniques, and most of all
feedback. Please
no negative feedback! Just kidding feedback of all kinds will
help me. This
is my first upload, so comments on this file will help me too.
This is not the only aircraft I will make. Since the KC-135 is so
ever
present on the ramp at Plattsburgh, that might be my next
project. Hey let
me know what types of aircraft you would like to see.
