You might want to read FS4ATP.TXT in LIBrary 2 (General Aviation). This file
compares FS4, ATP, Elite and IFT-Pro. >>> Rick Lee <<< Associate SysOp

Rick, Well guys I am putting my thoughts together for a more detailed upload but
I have Elite MD-80, Elite SEL and Elite Basic now and have spend about 10 hours
flying them. Many Many thanks ti Jim Rooney of Simutech who won this software
as a door prise to last years Ithaca conference and loaned me the software and
the interface box in order for me to test it.
The simulator bills itself as an IFR training environment so as such it really
is best to compare it against IFT-Pro and not FS-4. However comparisons can
still be drawn on certain portions of simulator.
Since both IFT-Pro and Elite utilize limited external visuals I will limit any
discussion of the visual aspects to say that it contains sufficient cues to
perform the landing once the approach is completed.
I found the primary flight instruments in Elite to be rendered quite grainy
compared to IFT-Pro and especially the FS4 8514 Ultra panel. The FS4 HSI still
stands as the pinacle of achievement in bitmapped rendered instrument displays.
The fidelity and consistency of the navaids is far and away better in Elite
than in FS4 and IFT. Elite presents the most stable IFR practice I have ever
done on a PC. The ILS is extremely stable and does not jump in large movements
like FS4. ADF and VOR holds are easily practiced.
While we are discussing the panel, the Elite system models the functionality of
the prop, power and mixture better than FS4 and IFT. However an analog tach,
MP and FF guage would be helpfull for intuitive power setting. Airplanes don't
have digital tach's so neither should simulators. The Flight Director for the
MD-80 module is nothing short of breathtaking. The SEL panel is highly
functional also.
The external control interface really takes the edge off of potentiometer based
input devices. The control fidelity is substantially better than any joystick
input based simulator I have flown. Expect more on this subject
from me in the near future.
I can't describe my opinion on the flight model yet, I need more experience
with the sim. Just some first impression to add to your thread.
