  1. Lotus 1-2-3 for DOS R2.3/2.4 Wysiwyg Driver

  3. Here is your 1-2-3 for DOS Release 2.3 and 2.4 Update disk to 
  4. install the HP LaserJet 4 printer driver used to create output in the 
  5. Wysiwyg (:Print) publishing environment of 1-2-3 for DOS.  This 
  6. driver is not available in 1-2-3 native-mode (/Print) or PrintGraph.
  7. Lotus' driver for the HP LaserJet 4 printer is enhanced to support 
  8. PCL5 and HP-GL/2 to take advantage of internal scalable fonts and 
  9. vector graphics drawing for superior performance.  Lotus and HP have 
  10. worked closely together to ensure that as many of the new capabilities 
  11. of the HP LaserJet 4 printer as possible are supported by 1-2-3 for 
  12. DOS.

  35. 1-2-3 for DOS Release 2.3 Network Edition users:
  36.  
  37. If you are a network administrator and need to update the 1-2-3 for DOS
  38. Release 2.3 Network Edition, you will require the Lotus 2.3 Network Edition
  39. update disk.  This update disk is available electronically via CompuServe
  40. in the Hewlett-Packard peripherals forum, from Hewlett-Packard Distribution
  41. at (303) 353-7650, or from Lotus Development Corporation.

  44. Before proceeding with the update, please make sure there are at least 1.3
  45. megabytes of hard disk space available on the hard disk containing your
  46. 1-2-3 program. This amount of disk space is required temporarily to allow
  47. the update to create copies of the files that will be modified. This is
  48. done to insure that the integrity of all files being affected remains
  49. intact during the update procedure.
  50.  
  51. To use the Update disk, you must complete the following instructions:
  52.  
  53. 1. Insert the Update disk in drive A: (or B:).
  54.  
  55. 2. At the operating system prompt, type A: (or B:) and press
  56.    ENTER to make A: (or B:) the current drive.
  57.  
  58. 3. At the prompt, type UPDATE followed by a space and the path
  59.    of your Release 2.3 or 2.4 directory, and then press ENTER.
  60.    For example, if you have Release 2.3 and your directory is C:\123R23,
  61.    you would type UPDATE C:\123R23 and then press ENTER. When the update is
  62.    complete, the following message appears: "1-2-3 Update files have
  63.    been installed."

  65. 4. You must now run the Lotus 1-2-3 Install program. Follow the instructions 
  66.    in chapter 4 of Getting Started (if you have Release 2.3) or chapter 5 of
  67.    Getting Started (if you have Release 2.4) to start Install.

  69.    A. In the 1-2-3 Install program, choose "Change Selected
  70.    Equipment" and then choose "Add New Drivers to the
  71.    Library" and identify the drive A: (or B:) containing this
  72.    Update disk.  When Install indicates that it has completed
  73.    adding the new drivers, choose "Return to the Main
  74.    Menu".

  76.    B. Choose "Select Your Equipment" from the Install Main
  77.    Menu and follow the instructions on the screen.  The new
  78.    printer driver provided on this disk is a "Graphics Printer",
  79.    and its name will appear in Install's menu as: "LaserJet 4 PCL5".

  81.    C. Make sure you select "Yes" when Install asks if you
  82.    want to Generate Fonts.

  84. If you have multiple driver sets, you must recreate each
  85. driver set using Select Your Equipment.

  89. Application Notes:

  91. 1-2-3 for DOS will automatically use the internal scalable typefaces
  92. resident in your HP LaserJet 4 printer when you use the "LaserJet 4 PCL5" 
  93. driver in Wysiwyg, the publishing environment which is part of Lotus 1-2-3 
  94. for DOS.

  96. If you have a 1-2-3 spreadsheet which you would like to try printing
  97. with your new HP LaserJet 4 printer driver, just /File Retrieve it.
  98. Make sure that you select the appropriate driver and interface through
  99. Wysiwyg's :Print menu or through the :Print dialog box.  Then choose
  100. :Print Range Set, and when your HP LaserJet 4 printer is ready,
  101. choose :Print Go.
  102.  
  103. Refer to your 1-2-3 User's Guide if you need more information on
  104. printing with 1-2-3's Wysiwyg or the :Print menu(s).
  105. The following fonts in 1-2-3's Wysiwyg display will automatically map
  106. to your HP LaserJet 4 printer:

  108. Swiss=> Univers         Dutch=> CG Times         Courier=> Courier
  109.  
  110. Additionally, you can also select the HP LaserJet 4 printer font by name 
  111. through the Wysiwyg menu :Format Font Replace (select a number 1-8) Other.

  115.    Select a printer font
  116.    Specify the point size
  117.

  119. Please keep in mind that 1-2-3's Wysiwyg display cannot show you
  120. the actual font available in your printer.  Moreover, you may notice
  121. that the spacing between characters changes on screen when you've
  122. selected a font available in your HP LaserJet 4 printer.  This is
  123. done to indicate the width of characters as they will appear on your
  124. printed output.

  160. If you are using Virus Scanning Software:

  162. This modification will alter existing files, which may cause a virus 
  163. checking program to report a virus.

  165. If you are using a virus scanning program that is memory resident, 
  166. you may wish to disable the resident virus scanner before proceeding 
  167. with the update, and re-enable it afterwards.

  169. If you are using a non-memory resident virus scanning program that 
  170. maintains a record of files on your disk, you may receive a report that 
  171. some files in the 1-2-3 directory you updated have been modified since 
  172. they were was last scanned. You may wish to have the virus scanner 
  173. re-scan your 1-2-3 directory immediately following this modification in 
  174. order to update the record of the 1-2-3 files.

  178. ERROR MESSAGES
  179.  
  180. "The path of directory specified is not an updateable release of 1-2-3."
  181.  
  182.      This indicates the 1-2-3 Release 2.3 or Release 2.4 files do
  183. not exist in the path you specified. Please verify the directory you
  184. specify is valid and contains the 1-2-3 files.
  185.  
  186. "You must specify a directory to update. Example: c:\123R24"
  187.  
  188.      This indicates you did not specify a path when you ran
  189. update. To run update, please verify the path your 1-2-3 files reside in
  190. and include that path when you run UPDATE. For example, if your 1-
  191. 2-3 files reside in C:\123R24 you should run the Update by entering:
  192. UPDATE C:\123R24.
  193.  
  194. "ERROR: There is not enough free disk space.
  195. 1.3MB of free disk space is temporarily needed to perform the update."
  196.  
  197.      This indicates that insufficient disk space is free on the
  198. drive containing the 1-2-3 files you are updating.1.3 megabytes of disk
  199. space is required temporarily to allow the update to create copies of
  200. the files that will be modified. This is done to insure that the integrity
  201. of all files being affected remain intact during the update procedure.
