The Tactical Missile System is a fully mobile missile launching system
mounted on a modified M2 Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicle. The vehicle
carries one missile ready in the launch tube, and the crew can mechanically
reload from a supply vehicle without leaving the armored launcher.
The guidance system carried by the TAC Missile consists of a computerized
fire control system, a position-determining system, and an on-board stabil-
ization reference package. The position-determining system utilizes infor-
mation from the Department of Defense's navigation satellites to pinpoint
its location anywhere on the globe.
The TAC Missile System was found to be very effective in Kuwait and Iraq
during the Persian Gulf War. Under such conditions, the vehicle's mobility
and the missile's range are well utilized. In addition, the non-nuclear TAC
Missile gains lethality by dispensing terminally guided submunitions
over a wide battlefield area.
