That Computer Shopper article examines the ATI Mach64, the Matrox, The
#9GXE 64, and the Diamont Stealth 64. Of those 4 cards, they said the
fastest DOS perfoemance was with the Diamond Stealth -- in both PCI and
VLB , with the VLB taking the lead in DOS performance on all cards. "In
our tests using ID software's DOOM!, driving the Diamond card through the
virtual 3D landscape was stunningly smooth."Our DOOM! tests confirmed the
scores, and animation chunked across the screen with all the grace of a
bulldozer on a skating rink [on the Matrox MGA ULT+].
The magazines now appear to be using DOOM! as a new DOS benchmark test
-- and well they should since it is the single most important piece of DOS
software yet to be conceived.
